When I called Mayapple 2 days before Thanksgiving, I didn't have high hopes that I would be able to snag an appointment. To my surprise, Melissa quickly found a spot for me and within 24 hours of calling I was en route to Mayapple.
It's important to note the state of my hair upon entering the salon - it had been at least 2 years since I'd had a proper cut. To say my hair was dead is certainly an understatement. I explained to Melissa that I wanted to get rid of all the unhealthy hair but that I was fearful of ending up with the same A-line bob that so many people are rocking as of late.
Melissa was incredible from the moment I walked in until the moment I left. She pulled up references on her i pad to confirm that she and I were on the same page before getting to work. When it was all said and done, it was clear that Melissa had customized my hair rather than merely cutting it.
I say all this to say that I have never walked out of a salon feeling so good. Melissa listened to everything I had to say, added her own genius expertise into the mix, and the outcome was flawless. I am so thankful that Melissa was able to fit me in when she did. She's found a loyal customer and I will be screaming her praises from the rooftops until kingdom come.
If you're looking for a salon to call home, call Melissa at Mayapple. You won't regret it!
I went to Amanda on the recommendation of a fellow curly-haired friend. With a few pictures on my phone, Amanda was able to create the perfect cut for me. I appreciated that she took the time to listen to me describe my typical routine and my knowledge of my own hair. Getting my hair washed was pure luxury! And I left with a style that had me wanting to gush my thanks even weeks later, definitely my favorite cut ever! Will be returning ASAP for my summer cut!
The owner recommended Amanda to me, if that tells you anything. I had called the salon because I had stopped 2 women with amazing curly hair in public (on 2 separate occasions) to ask them what hair salon they used, and both of them said Mayapple! I have been so pleased with Amanda! She spends over and hour on my hair each time and does a dry cut, which is necessary for curly hair. You see, I was tired of hairstylists telling me they knew what to do with curly hair, and ending up with a frizzy bad shape. My hair stays great for months when Amanda cuts it! And here are some bonuses: she is kind, down to earth (which may not sound like a big deal but sure makes sitting for an hour more pleasant), and will listen closely to what YOU want. If I ever move away, I will drive back for Amanda to cut my hair!
Amanda has been cutting and styling my curly hair for years!!! When she moved to a Fayetteville salon, I tried someone else. What a mistake!! Amanda knows my hair and does a fantastic job! She is also very friendly and easy to talk to, which is a big plus. Amanda also cuts my daughter's hair which is super curly and very thick and my oldest son's hair (when he finally breaks down to my pleading) - He has a very thick head of tight curls which he wears long. Amanda cuts his dry which makes a difference in shaping and the health of the curls.
I have been going to Andi for almost 2 years now. I have never had more compliments on my curly hair! EVERYWHERE I go- people want to know who cut it. I am so glad I found Andi, because there is not a stylist in NWA that has ever cut my curly hair so well!
Andi is incredible! I can't tell you how happy I am to have a good, no GREAT haircut! I have had so many bad cuts, and Andi took the time to listen and really get to know my curls. If you are serious about the curly method- she is your girl!!!
Andi is the best, best, best!! I have 3A type hair and she rocked it! I've been going to her for about a year now, and she is always consistent. Always so flexible and available too! Love her!!!!
I waited quite a while to post this review because I wanted to "live in" my new haircut for a while before I made my review; and 6 months after my initial haircut, I can safely say that Andi is the BEST stylist in Northwest Arkansas! Back in November, I was so excited to find a salon in northwest Arkansas with such a great rating on NC. I called the salon to book an appointment with Roxy, and was told Roxie is no longer taking clients. My heart sank, but there was a glimmer of hope… it just so happened that the lovely lady who answered my call was Andi. Andi explained that she had been training to training to take over for Roxie. I readily accepted, but I was nervous. I wondered; would I be her first curly cut? I quickly got over any hesitation as I reminded myself that I had not been happy with my recent, non-CG, haircuts, so anything Andi did couldn’t be worse than what I’d already had! On the day of my appointment I was nervous and excited, as I had decided to not only get a trim, but to cut over 10 inches of my hair off! (Hey, if you’re going to go, go all out!) Andi was so sweet and friendly, and has a passion for curly/wavy hair. She put me at ease right from the start. Make no mistake, she is not a novice; this girl is a veteran stylist who really knows her stuff! She gave a great consultation and really listened to me. She understood that my wave pattern and tightness varied from my canopy to my under layer and was able to work with my waves, rather than against my waves, and I wound up with a wonderful cut! - MY WAVES HAVE NEVER LOOKED BETTER! - Plus, my hair has grown out so nicely that I haven’t needed a trim or reshaping in over 6 months! Do yourself a favor and give Andi a call!
Best curly hair cut EVER ! I had previously had a bad experience at another salon and my hair was a little rough looking, Andi did a dry cut and it is fantastic! I'm in love with my new cut and have gotten so many compliments on it. Will definitely be coming back.
I have curly hair and I used to get my hair cut by Roxie. She used to do such a great job with my hair and used to give me a beautiful haircut each time. She used to cut my hair dry. After Roxie left, I got my hair cut by Andi and she did not do a good job at all. I am not at all pleased with my new haircut. It is extremely short and shapeless. I am a disappointed customer.
I was so excited to find a salon in Fayetteville with such a great rating on your site. I called the salon and was told Roxie is no longer taking clients. My dreams almost dashed, the girl told me that there was another stylist who had been training to take over for Roxie. Not going to lie- I was nervous. Was she a new stylist? Would I be her first curly cut? Still reluctant, I made the appointment. I am so glad I did! Andi is so sweet and friendly- I could tell I would like her from the start. I was put at ease when I found out she is a veteran stylist who really knows her stuff! She gave such a great consultation. Listened to my concerns, what has worked, what hasn't worked, made me feel so comfortable. And let me tell you- MY CURLS HAVE NEVER LOOKED BETTER! Do yourself a favor and give Andi a call! You will love the salon too- vintage feel but very hip.
Okay, curly girls, it's been just about a month since I had my curls clipped by Roxie and I just have to say that I absolutely LOVE my hair. Roxie was amazing. She really understands that every curly girly has unique issues with their locks. And no curl is the same. She just did a shape up and layer for me because that is what I wanted. She cut it dry which was a new experience for me and a total wake up call for my curls. I was really worried that I would have to go short because of the way my hair grew out of the layered and thinning job that was done on it the last time I got it sheared. BUT Roxie totally saved the length and did not thin my mane at all!! I was so so happy. Roxie is my curls new best friend! And your curls will thank you if you give her a try.
Roxie has been cutting my curls for over 2 years now, she is the best cutter I have ever had, never a bad cut at Mayapple....Her dry cut is the secret and the the way her fingers just know the curls and scissors do the rest! Everyone with curls needs to see Roxie for happy curls!
Roxie is an intelligent, hip, insightful hair stylist. Most importantly she RESPECTS the CURL!!! She won't try to straighten or thin your curls, unless that is what you want. She is very good at reading her clients' tastes. She gives fashionable, hip haircuts that suit the person and takes into account face shape, etc. You can text or leave a voicemail for her and she returns calls promptly to set the appointment. She stays on schedule and I have never had to wait for more than a few minutes after I show up for my appointment. Her shop is family friendly, there are little kid toys and books to keep the kiddos occupied while mom or dad gets their haircut. My kids absolutely hate getting haircuts, but they ADORE Roxie. I've been searching for Roxie all my life and finally found someone who can do a great job with curls. Everyone else always just botched it or straightened it, since that was what they knew how to do. Roxie Rocks.
Roxie does a great job with my curly hair. She was the first one to cut it dry - which made all the difference. I highly recommend her!
Roxie was trained in the Lorraine Massey/Curly girl/Devachan method of hair cutting, so she cut my hair dry. She did a fantastic job! I normally wear my hair medium length (above my shoulders) and I wanted to go shorter, which seems to be Roxie's specialty. I've always had my hair cut in layers and as a native New Yorker didn't want to shell out $$$ for a cut at any of the curly salons (Devachan, Ouidad, Christo, etc.). This is the cheapest and possibly best cut I've had! It's very short, like a bob in the back, with longer lengths to frame my face. One caveat, the only way to make an appointment is to leave Roxie a voice mail. She was out of town when I called, so I had to wait 2 days before knowing whether or not I could even make an appointment. No hours are posted on their website and she works part-time. I also posted on this website about a great stylist at D. Cole in Sarasota, Florida (I've moved a bit in the past few years!) I still maintain a good recommendation for her, but she was inconsistent.
