KENDALL IS THE BEST. I'll never let anyone touch my hair again! Kendall is sweet, professional, and so talented! She is worth every cent. She used to be at Re:Vive Salon in Fashion Valley, but I tracked her down at the Lighthouse and I'm a customer for life! Kendall taught me how to keep my hair healthy and how to style it and make it look amazing.
Tip for buying DevaCurl products: go to Empire Beauty Supply down the street from The Lighthouse Salon. Deva products are buy 2, get one free. I bought a 32oz No Poo and 32oz One Condition for $85 with tax, got a 32oz Arc AnGEL for free ($40 value). If you're a Bank of America customer, check their Cash Back deals and add Empire Beauty Supply to get an extra 15% deposited back to your checking account! With that discount, I paid about $24 per item!
Kendall is absolutely wonderful!!!
A few years ago, I used to get Japanese Straightening done on my hair because I hated my curls. But one day I saw my little curly roots and I decided I would give them a second chance. I am so glad I'm a curly girl again, but more importantly, I am SO glad that I found Kendall.
Kendall taught me how to love my natural hair. She was as friendly with my curls as she was with me. I had bad experiences in the past with hairdressers, so this was the first time I really loved the experience and the result!
Kendall has perfected the Deva Curl method and uses their products. She actually teaches you how to use the products and why they're so good for curly hair. She is absolutely delightful to talk with, too! She's very friendly and lovely and makes you feel like you're at home. She also gives an amaaazing head massage when she washes your hair–what a treat!
I've been returning to Kendall for all of my curly hair needs. She has just given me the single most awesome pixie cut I have ever seen in my entire life (and she understood all my blabbering about what exactly I wanted, how often do hairdressers give you EXACTLY what you want?!) and I will forever be a loyal Kendall curly girl!!! Thank you for everything Kendall!! <3
Based on the volume of reviews, I booked an appointment a couple months back and was really unimpressed with the result. The dry cut with my curl type, just makes it incredibly frizzy. Which leaves it impossible to determine how my hair will respond when it gets wet and re-styled. Okay, I figured she would then shampoo and cut the rest of the hair wet to even out the cutting she started with. Nope. She went straight to styling it without paying any mind to the way that I told her I styled it. She did the late-90's Seventeen magazine styling method of 1 leave-in product, twirling 1-inch sections around the fingers, and then diffusing. With my curl type, that just weighs the hair down to the bottom, eliminates my natural S-shaped curl and leaves it really frizzy. She then went on to continue dry cutting the style she had just put in. The end result was this misshapen apple, that had a really short top layer and a long-ish bottom layer. I ended up going home and cutting more layers into the style myself just so that I could feel good about leaving my house.
I guess if you haven't quite figured out what your own hair type does well, then this might be an okay place to start. But if you want a specific shape other than apple (you know, something a little more modern), you'll need to head elsewhere.
This is the first salon I've been to for my curly/coily hair. I needed a haircut bad because of my heat damage; Anisa was my stylist. She is very knowledgeable about curly hair and she's licensed in Deva curl products which she used on my hair. I like the shampoo she used and the conditioner. She cut my hair also but she wasn't exactly sure how I wanted to style it since my hair is thick and plus I'm in the military so I have to wear my hair a certain way. Right now, I have a asymmetrical Bob that's really cute but I'm not used to short hair so I'm having issues dealing with it. Anisa is a really good stylist and she worked with my hair and she listened to what I wanted but I believe I need to understand my hair better before I go to a stylist.
I am so fortunate that I happened upon this site looking for products for my type 2C hair (didn't know there were 'types'), and learned about the 'curly girl' haircut, and how that made all the difference. After reading reviews and finding my comfort level with pricing, I decided to go with Kendall and Revive Salon. I am sooooo happy to have found her! Not only is Kendall friendly, easy going, and professional, this girl really knows what she's doing. The special cut, setting with clips, and Deva products make all the difference in the world. I used to straighten my hair (would take a while and never look as good as the stylist did it), or let it go natural, but had to deal with a lot of frizz and not much style. Now, I've got beautiful, defined locks and get more compliments on my hair than ever before! I have not used a blow dryer or straightened my hair since having this cut. Kendall is also very good with hair color, I get highlights and base color. I would not hesitate to recommend her to others.
So, i got a hair cut the other day. I originally wanted to get my hair cut with Kendall, (i had a hair cut with her before and loved it) but she was out of town and so they set me up with Keara. Keara was ok as a stylist. She was knowledgeable as about curly hair and the DevaCurl brand. so I liked that. She cut my hair alright, i did just go for a trim because my ends were really bad. She did tell me that she has been cutting curly hair for about a year, and since Kendall has been very busy with curly hair clients they thought 2 stylist would even the load. Anyway I guess the only thing i didn't like about keara was that she diffused my hair ( with the deva curl blowdryer thing) but i haven't used heat on my hair iin forever so i wasn't really up for that. anyway. thats about it.. Shes alright but i like Kendall better. She just seemed more passionate about curly hair.
I'm a long-time lurker on this website, but I made an account so that I could let other San Diego curly girls know about Kendall. I got blonde highlights and a cut with Kendall this Friday. I came in with fine, limp, mousey 2c-ish hair. I had been following a mod-CG method and thought that I had gotten my hair to about as good as it could be. Kendall transformed it into a beautiful mass of fat, defined blonde curls! I thought maybe they just looked so good because she had styled them, but my new post-Kendall hair seems like it's here to stay. Partly that's because of the cut she gave me (goodbye, sad stringy ends!), but also because she spent a lot of time showing me how to style my hair properly (I wasn't too far of the mark, but there were some important aspects of my routine that needed tweaking). This is definitely the best my hair has ever looked, and I've never seen it like this before -- I guess I didn't know what my hair could do! Kendall does an amazing job and will make sure you know how to keep getting the curls that she creates at Revive.
The scale only goes to 5!?? That's not right. It needs to be at least 10, because Kendal is fantastic. Not only did she give me a rockstar haircut (LOOK, it has real curls again!), but she told me how to do it for myself at home. I can't tell you how many of my friends have said, "I had this great haircut...but then couldn't make it look like that ever again!" Step by step, she gave me tips and tricks for creating and maintaining curls. And while she talked about the DevaCurl (answering all my questions), she didn't hard-sell the products at all. I'm super-excited - this isn't like just getting a haircut, this is like getting NEW HAIR. I will definitely tell all my curly friends about Kendall.
I just have to echo the other positive reviews in saying this is the best haircut I have ever had. Kendall understood my "curly on top/ wavy in the back" dilemma and my hair has a great shape. Her styling techniques have also been incredibly helpful. I thought I just had to live with my halo of frizz, but now my curls are really smooth and well defined, and it has been several weeks since I got the cut. It was the priciest haircut I have ever gotten, but it is sooo worth it.
I got my first curly girl haircut from Kendall and I couldn't be happier with it. She really knows her stuff and talks you through the whole process. She showed me how to wash, condition, and style my 2C hair. She also walked me through styling second day hair. I've never left a salon confident that I would be able to recreate the style at home until this cut. The salon itself is really nice and Kendall was very friendly. I highly recommend both her and the salon, especially if you are new to styling your curls naturally.
Don't let this young lady's age fool you-she's a genius at cutting and styling curly hair. I have very fine, gray, type 2C-3A hair which tends to frizz. She takes her time attending to every strand, then washing and conditioning my hair. She styles it beautifully, and I don't have to worry about not being able to work with it myself. The cut "holds" until my next visit with her. I can't recommend her enough!
For years I been getting cuts where I look like I have shelves. When I would go home I usually would cut my one bottom layer off to minimize the tragedy. Let alone the old stylist always told me how awful my hair was and how I needed to staighten it. When I went to Kendall she explained to me exaclty what she was doing and why. It all made sense I felt enlightened. She knew what she was doing and fixed years of bad hair cuts. I walked out of there so happy and now I wear my hair down all the time. My hair is not trapped in ponytail prison. I get compliments all the time.
Kendall gave me the best haircut I have ever had! My curls have never looked so good. She was very friendly and easy to talk to, and she talked me through every step of what she was doing. It was different than any cut I've had before, and the results were just amazing. Highly recommend!
I jus love my new haircut. My fear of the hair salon was cured by Kendall after giving me a successful cut n color this evening. What all the reviewers said about her are all true. She is simply amazing. Thnx n more power to you Kendall.
I am a first time client at Re:vive and I chose this salon because of their Deva Certified curl specialist, Kendall. I have had a number of traumatic haircuts, but my appointment with Kendall was such a breath of fresh hair. She was ready for me on time. It's evident that she is very knowledgeable about curly hair. She kept me informed so that I knew what she was doing and why she was doing it every step of the way. She showed me how to properly care for and style my hair and what types of products I should be using. It was very clear that she really cared about her clients and was passionate about the work she did. She was also just a very nice person and easy to talk to. I love my haircut and my hair looks and feels probably the best it has ever felt in its natural state. Even though I felt like she was very thorough and really took her time, she still finished my appointment within the two-hour timeframe given to me when I called to schedule it. I would recommend Kendall even if I had straight hair just because of the level of service she provided. She did inform me that she does straight haired clients as well! As for the salon itself, it's clean, organized, deceptively large, and the decor's nice. The girls at the front desk were personable and even reminded me about the $10 off coupon from their website that I had mentioned back when I called to make the appointment weeks earlier. I will definitely re-schedule with Kendall the next time I am due for a haircut and I am considering taking advantage of some of their spa services as well. If you have curly hair, do yourself a favor and make an appointment.
I went to Kendall to cut my 3a chin length hair. I wanted a short cut that showed off my curls but had a little bit of edge to it. I went for a consultation to be sure she was comfortable cutting a cut that was not a traditional curly cut. I brought a few pictures to give her an idea of what I liked. She told me she was up for the task so I scheduled an appointment for the next day. As soon as she started cutting, she seemed tentative and unsure of how she would cut my hair. She kept stopping to look at the photos (I assume to be sure she was getting it just right). By the end of the appointment, my hair looked nothing like the picture and my curl formation looked worse than when I arrived. I expressed my concern and she seemed like she felt bad about it, but she didn't know how to fix it. She offered to try to fix it, but at that point I was afraid it would only look worse. I told her I'd go home and wash it and see if the curls bounced back. Well, they never did. She did give me her personal email and told me to let her know if there was anything she could do to fix it. I didn't want to go back since it was already short and I was afraid additional cutting would impact the curls even more. When I went to another curly stylist when I was ready for another cut, he said the ends were over texturized which is a killer for curly hair. I never saw Kendall texturize my hair so it must be the cutting technique that she used. She cut it dry and cut into sections to shape it. Maybe she just didn't get a chance to go back and snip off all the uneven ends. Kendall is a very sweet girl and was enjoyable to talk to during the appointment. She follows the curly girl routine and uses Deva products; she even gave me some hair clips to use at home. The shampoo was very nice and the head massage was relaxing. I'm not trying to bash her and I know she tried to make it right. Based on the other reviews, she probably does a good job on traditional one length hair, but I can't recommend her for a short edgy curly cut.
I have now gone to Kendall Suniga, a curly girl expert at Revive Salon & Spa, for two haircuts. Both experiences were very positive in every way. Kendall is warm and friendly and very easy to talk to. She listens carefully to what you want and makes sure that the two of you are on the same page before the haircut begins. She cuts hair curl by curl when it's dry. Then as she washes, uses styling products and dries your hair, Kendall explains step by step what she is doing. She uses deva products and recommends certain ones based on the texture of your hair. The first time that I went to Kendall, I got three compliments on my hair that week and it had been a long time since that had happened! On each occasion, as I was leaving the salon, I wish that I had brought along a camera so that someone could take a picture of me. My curls look much more defined and stylish than they used to. It is taking me a while to get used to the new styling techniques and to the deva products. To be honest, I like some of the products better than others. I have very fine, 3A type curls, and chin length hair so I need volume. Kendall was open and accepting when I told her that I mix some of the Living Proof Products with the Deva products because that seems to work better for me. The bottom line is that Kendall wants each of her clients to like their curly hair and to be happy when they leave the salon. She is willing to take as much time as needed to make sure that happens. I am happy to recommend her, because I think she is great. However, kiddingly I told her that I hope she doesn't end up getting so busy that she can't fit me in.
For so many years I thought I knew what I was doing with my curls, and I was pretty happy with my hair. But...I had no idea how amazing my curls look until I met Kendall - she is wonderful! I've noticed three major differences in my hair since she started cutting it several months ago. 1. That silly "shelf" look is NO MORE! Most of you curly girls should know what I'm talking about. Have you ever had layers cut and wondered why your they seem to stop abruptly in shelf-like patterns, never really blending in with the rest of your hair? I assumed this was a consequence of having layers cut on curly hair. WRONG! I can now wear it down or in a ponytail and I don't feel like a mushroom. 2. Length! I've always wanted hair that grew well beyond my shoulders and down my back, but every few months I had to chop it off. I would know I was ready for a cut when the curls seemed to straighten out. In reality, the weight of the hair was pulling the curls out and I was left with wavy/straight hair on top and a few ringlets at the bottom. Again, I needed those perfect layers. Now I've got them, along with the super long hair I always wanted! 3. No Frizz! Her styling technique is simple and fool-proof. She's great at recommending products and explaining how to manage your curls from the shower to the blow dryer, and all throughout the day! I highly recommend Kendall. She is a Deva Certified Curl Specialist and she has trained with the best of the best in New York City. She is extremely knowledgeable and can handle curls on clients of all ages with various hair types. Plus, she makes me feel like Julia Roberts' in Pretty Woman - only not a redhead. Give her a call. You will be very pleased with the outcome :)
Kendall was wonderful.....I went to SanDiego for a business trip, I am from New Hampshire, two and half hours north of Boston. Before I left for this trip I researched where I could get my curly hair styled and colored. I found That Kendall had got some great reviews, so I took a chance and book and apointment with Kendall at revive salon. It was the best choice I could have made. Kendall is very smart when it comes to hair color style and curly hair. She went to the best school and learned all the techniques and lastest ways to deal with curly hair in a simple way. I loved what she had done to my hair. Kendall is very knowledgable and filled with great information when it comes to keeping your hair and scalp healthy. I cant wait to go back to San Diego and Book another appointment with Kendall. Thank you Kendall. Your Great!!!! Hope to see you soon, Toni
Kendall came recommended through a friend of mine that struggles with very curly hair, just like me. I was so impressed with the knowledge that Kendall was able to share with me about how much damage I was doing to my hair. She truly knows her stuff and was willing to share her techniques throughout my time with her. I really felt as though she was a true hair consultant. She cut my hair when it was dry, curl by curl, paying close attention to the way each strand lies naturally. She taught me easy ways to style my hair and tame the frizz; I didn't think it was possible to have frizz-less curls! Her process is simple and effective- I can now, style my own hair easily and without the harsh products that I used before. Her techniques have saved me time and my hair feels healthier than ever. Kendall was great and I would recommend her to anyone..curly hair or not!
Revive has a curly hair expert, Kendall who is fabulous at cutting curly hair. She cuts the hair curl by curl because every curl is different! She won't "chop" your hair so it is short if you want to keep the length as this happens when you go to a stylist who does not specialize in curls. She actually has a special certification in curly hair and has trained in the art of curly hair cutting!
AMAZING!!!!! I have always lived in fear of my own curls unitl I met Kendall; she takes her time to really teach you everything about how to make your curls gorgeous. When you get a haricut from Kendall its not just a cut its an education on how you can repeat what she makes look like magic. I am always fighting frizz and as for having structured beautiful curls it was impossible. But Kendall showed me all the steps to truly make them hold their form and also not leave my hair looking crunchy. She has changed the way i feel about my curly hair and she will definitely see me again :).
I recently went to Kendall after hearing that Revive Salon has curl specialists. She was GREAT! I consider my hair type a 2b. It is really frizzy on the top and curly underneath....I could never quite style it right so I always ended up straightening it...which was doing some serious damage to my hair. Whenever I would try and wear it curly it would go flat in a couple hours. Kendall changed all that! She gave me a cut that helped accentuate my natural curls and styled it in a way that got rid of all the frizz. I have never seen my curls so bouncy and full of volume! This girl knows her curls! I have never had a stylist transform my hair like this before! She also took the time to teach me how to take care of my curls and showed me the best products to use for my hair type. Now I show off my curls every day and get tons of compliments! My whole experience with Kendall was great. She not only gave me the best hair cut I have ever had but a great head massage too! I have found my curl specialist! :)
I came to Kendall to ask her to correct a botched haircut I got from another salon, and I was pleasantly surprised to find out that she was a curl specialist! She took her time and gave me a great cut. She explained how to take care of my hair. Kendall also made great conversation and you can tell she likes what she is doing. It shows in the quality of her work. I already made my next appointment. I think her cut was a great deal at $65. Kendall gave me the bouncy 3c curls I wanted!
