If you are interested in having your hair pressed straight, then this is the place to go. If you interested in leaving your hair in its natural state, then I suggest looking elsewhere. By her own admission, she does not specialize in the care or styling of afro-textured hair in its natural state especially if it is as dense, coarse, and as curly as my 4a-c hair. Karen only uses Design Essentials and is not very knowledgeable about curly hair jargon or products. I received a deep protein treatment, cut and style (flat twists). She didn't use much product on my hair and detangled my hair with a fine tothed comb sans conditioner. I should have said something, but I figured she's the expert and has been in this business for as long as I've been alive. As a result, I left with hair that was frizzier and dryer than before the appointment and a tender scalp that lasted for 3 days. Keep this in mind before scheduling an appointment. She's not cheap, but does offer a $15 discount off services if you schedule a hair appointment within 7 days of the $35 consultation, plus a free product of your choice on your birthday.
Karen is great. Our first meeting was a consultation where we talked about my hair goals. She had me to fill out a data sheet, then she asked me specific questions about my hair. If more stylists handled the "business of hair" way Karen does, they would have happier clients with healthier hair.
