Based on other reviews on naturallycurly.com, I booked a session with Shannon. My curls were long, dry, and lifeless, and Shannon knew EXACTLY how to help me. She gave me a great cut that brings out the best of my curls, she diagnosed my curl-type and told me how to cleanse, style, preserve and care for my curl type effectively. She showed me tips and tricks that I've been implementing since my appointment. I am so satisfied! It's so exciting to have a stylist that is Deva-certified, I don't have to dread haircuts anymore!
Shannon gave me the best haircut that I have ever had. I was confident that she would do a good job as soon as I set down. She was very knowledgeable about curly hair, and the products to use. Shannon is very skilled in what she does.I would definitely go back to her again.
I have been going to Shannon for more than a year and have gotten a great cut every time. She's precise, knowledgeable about curly hair and a talented stylist. She has a sharp eye for overall shape, which is a big concern for me since I have chin-length curls that can easily look bottom-heavy if not shaped correctly. What's more, she offered several great suggestions to enhance the look I was going for. If you want the assurance that you'll leave the chair with great-looking curls, Shannon is a phenomenal choice.
Shannon does an excellent job of helping those of us with curly locks understand how to care for our hair so it behaves and looks like it should instead of flying and frizzing all over the place! Not only is the cut well done but the company is pleasant also!
I first went to Shannon for a Deva cut and consultation. She taught me so many tips for managing my lifetime of unruly hair. For the first time in my 50+ years, I am at peace with my curly hair. The cut was fantastic and I went back two weeks later for a color. It's truly the best color I've EVER had! I've received so many compliments on my curls and color! I won't be going anywhere else for cuts, colors or styles! Shannon is highly recommended!
I had my thick, curly hair cut by Shannon for the 1st time a few weeks ago. She did a great job. My hair is much more manageable now, and it's easy to take care of. She showed me how to deal with my curly hair. I will definitely be going back and would recommend Shannon to anyone.
Shannon does a great job coloring, cutting and styling my hair. She's been a HUGE help in teaching me how to take care of and embrace my curls!
I've NEVER had a good haircut before Lindsay. I got to the point where I wouldn't cut my hair, I was too scared. I read the reviews on here and decided to try it out. My hair never looked bad before, it just hadn't reached it's full potential. It is now frizz free and the top layer actually curls like the rest of my hair! I never thought my hair could be this smooth and silky. Thank you so much Lindsay!!
Lindsay was kind, efficient, and listened. Her hair cut was very effective. It was a clean salon, and I was very happy with the cut. I am very shy about getting my hair cut and she did so well, I made a future appointment as well.
Shannon gave me my first Deva-cut! It looks awesome! I have 3b/c hair and she has very similar hair so she knew what she was doing. I paid $60 for my cut-- which is a lot but so worth the price! She takes you through the process of the Deva-cut, explains how to wash and style your hair and then actually washes and styles your hair to ensure the curls are cut right and that you are satisfied! Before getting my hair cut I just had a mop of weighed down curls, now I have a style! Thanks Shannon!
I've had bad experiences with haircuts, but Lindsay did a great job on mine! She's cut my hair several times now and even put some higlights in it. She's great with curls and color! I highly recommend her for curly hair and any type of hair. My sister goes to her also, she has straight hair with bangs and she even highlighted her too. She does a great job and communicates great. She also made sure I had the right shampoo and conditioner at home to use. Lindsay comes highly recommended and I need to call and set up my next appointment. Thank Lindsay!
I've had multiple bad experiences with stylists. Some people shouldn't cut curly hair, but Lindsay isn't one of them! Lindsay has training with Deva Curl and new exactly what I was looking for. She made sure to ask questions and make sure I was getting the haircut I wanted. She cut it dry, washed me and styled me. She did a great job! Lindsay also made sure I was using the right shampoo and conditioner for my type of hair. I've been back to her several times for both a cut and color. She did great highlights for the summer and has plans to tone them down for the fall. I actually need to call and schedule another trim before too long. I highly recommend her for not only curly hair, but any type of hair cut and color. She does a great job!
I have now had my hair cut twice by Shannon. She does a really great job of helping my curls work for me. I went in initially with crazy frizzy waves that went flat at the crown. She took a lot of weight out and helped my hair to not go flat. I know that I was hesitant to go to a curly only stylist, but I've found that the one time I have used a curling iron since the cut, even those curls looked much better.
This was my initial visit to this salon - I needed a cut and color. Before doing anything with my hair, Shannon and I discussed what I liked and didn't like about my hair. She actually listened! Although my hair is very curly and I have had the Deva cut, I just don't like the way curly hair looks on me. So I blow dry it straight, and of course, it can really get wild and frizzy. Shannon and I discussed my hair care regimen (I love Deva products), and she made some good suggestions. When we discussed color (I was going from light to medium), she brought out a color sample book. She asked for my opinion and when I pointed out the color, that was the one she thought I would like! She suggested another color to blend so my hair would have more depth. I really felt good about the color even before she applied it. It turned out really well! As for the haircut, she came up with some good suggestions. I liked what she suggested, and she cut my hair. She didn't cut much length, but she added layers. I really like it. My hair lays down pretty well, and isn't as bushy as it was. It's been easy to style, and doesn't take nearly as long to dry. I am very pleased with the cut and the color, and would highly recommend her to any Curly Girl! As for the salon itself, it's very nice. The receptionists are great - they are very friendly and helpful. The salon was clean, and other stylists were friendly as well. I will definitely go back!
I first met Shannon almost a year ago at another salon. Her knowledge impressed me - plus she had curly hair too so she completely understands how it is trying to manage and style curly hair on a daily basis, so I gave it a go and had her cut my hair. It was a total Game Changer for my hair. She not only gives me a great cut every time, but she's also taught me how to style and maintain my curls and introduced me to the Deva Curl products and methods. I love my curly hair again and can make it look great with very little effort. Shannon also sells Mary Kay, so it's a great and convenient one-stop shop to get most of my hair and makeup needs taken care of at the same place. I would recommend Shannon to anyone out there looking for a hairstylist --- especially those with curly hair!
I found Shannon through another client of hers. I had met Shannon's client at a networking event and she had really cute, short curly hair. I was new to the area and was looking for a stylist so she provided me Shannon's informaiton. I went to Shannon to try her out and have been returning since. Shannon is great with curly hair, having curly hair herself, she can relate to what your problems and issues are. Shannon has also gone through extensive training and certifications that have helped increase her knowledge and ability to cut/style and care for curly hair. Shannon hooked me on Deva Curl products as well and my hair has never looked and felt so great. When I first went to Shannon my hair was long and below my shoulders. Over the years and wanting a change, she has taken me to short hair which I absolutely love. It looks more professional and is easy to take care of. I can tell Shannon that I want a change and I know whatever she comes up with will look great. Indulge Salon is a great location. It's convienant and easy to get to. It's clean and the staff are all very friendly, professional and courteous. I'm glad I have Shannon as my stylist and she has found this amazing salon to work from!!

I love my curly hair again and can make it look great with very little effort. I've had Shannon do both a regular haircut and the Deva Curl Haircut (for $10 upcharge); both are great but I like the sense of security I get from the Deva Cut. Instead of washing your hair first, you come in as you are and she starts cutting. This gave me more curl and allowed me to see the length my hair would be without having to guess how much shorter my hair would be when it dried. Then after dry cutting, she washes and styles your hair. Deva Curl Cut is AWESOME. I followed Shannon to this new salon, Indulge, and I like it a lot. It's classy but never snobby. The receptionists are very helpful and friendly. You can also get Deva Curl and other great products there; Shannon also sells Mary Kay, so it's a great and convenient one-stop shop to get most of my hair and makeup needs taken care of at the same place.
Just came from my first cut with Nicole, and I am ecstatic! If you take anything from this review, let it be this; she listened and made cutting my hair look so EASY! And after 24 years of curly hair cuts, I've never had anyone cut my hair without at least a tiny bit of complication. She cuts it dry, while it's styled the way you wear it-- Amen! She was all ears when I said I was growing my hair out from a previous hair hack, and trimmed off the minimum needed to get my hair back to the shape I like, and the health it needed. Some of my favorite things about Nicole; - She admits to being "conservative" when it comes to cutting. She will NOT cut off more than you want! - She understands how you want your curl to look and won't force anything on you. Said she hates when stylist do what they want, not what you want. - She has curly hair and is DevaCurl trained, so she knows what's up! - Didn't push or guilt me into products I can't afford / don't need at the moment. - Didn't charge me for a wash or style since my hair was cut dry and didn't need to be washed or re-styled! I was out of there in ONE HOUR-- that never happens! - The dry cut ensured she cut the curls the way they actually are, and no shrinkage! Overall, I found her to be knowledgeable, trained, understanding and a good listener! My hair looks healthy, lays great and I still have my length! I am sticking with her!
Shannon was at another salon when I found her, and she was GREAT but she needed a change. She moved to Indulge because of Diva Curl products and Nicole being very curly minded! They sent her to the diva curl college as well as training in the diva curl products. She has always done a FABULOUS job on my curls and helped me learn new ways to manage my beautiful waves. Thanks to Shannon's new training I am getting better and better at controling my frizz and just getting beautiful curls. Everything she has learned at Indulge salon has been a HUGE help, and I am learning new things every time I go to see her because she is getting the training and knowledge about DivaCurl products, as well as the new "curly girl" haircut - Indulge is very fancy but not snobbish. They are all very friendly, helpful, and have a lot of salon options for all your needs. It is a GREAT salon and spa. I am so happy Shannon moved to Indulge and hope she can stay there for years to come. Thanks so much for all my curly girl help. If you are a curly girl, you will benefit from calling Indulge and asking to see Shannon!
Nicole is awesome!! She spends time finding out how you already care for your hair. She explains how to take care of your hair so you have less frizz and more curl. I have a beautiful hair cut now. I love it. I am so excited I found Nicole. Thank you Nicole!!
I have wavy/frizzy hair, and was just so frustrated with it. I bought the Curly Girl Book several years ago, but just wasn't getting very good results with the routine on my own. I have tried so many products and hairdressers, and out of desperation, I decided to try a DevaCurl Stylist as a last ditch effort before I cut my right below the shoulder length hair really short. I found Nicole on this site and decided to give her a try. I am so glad I did!! She understood every problem I was dealing with concerning frizzy, out of control hair, and gave me the best dry haircut (well, actually the only dry hair cut,) I have ever had! No big chunks missing and no walking out of the salon with your hair looking worse than when u came in! She advised me on the right products to use and how to use them, and I love all the Deva Curl products. My hair was not frizzy, and the curl was more defined than I have ever seen it. Also, she gave me great advice and tips for 2nd and 3rd day hair. Now I only have to low poo/conditon it every third day, and I couldn't be happier!!! I highly recommend her, thank you Nicole!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I RESEARCHED ON LINE ABOUT CERTIFIED DEVA CURL STYLIST. I CALLED SALON BLISS AND AFTER BEING ON HOLD FOREVER,I CALLED BACK. A RECEPTIONIST TOLD ME AND STRONGLY RECOMMENDED JAN BLISS AS A CERTIFIED DEVA CURL STYLIST. I WENT IN AND IT WAS OBVIOUS SHE WAS NOT COMFORTABLE CUTTING CURLY HAIR. I HAVE HAD MY HAIR DEVA CUT BEFORE IN CHICAGO AND THIS EXPERIENCE WAS NOTHING LIKE THAT. I WAS VERY UNHAPPY WITH THE END RESULT.MY HAIR IS SO HARD TO WORK WITH NOW. LATER I WENT ON THE DEVA WEBSITE AND DISCOVERED JAN BLISS IS NOT DEVA CERTIFIED. SHE SHOULD NOT BE MISLEADING PEOPLE LIKE THIS.
I just had my 9 year old daughter's hair done and we are thrilled! FInally someone who understands her hair and can help me care for it better. Being a straight haired mom, I had no idea how to deal with my daughters curls. In addition, her hair is super curly and spirally underneath a top layer of straight. Nicole actually showed us how to coax the curls out of the top layers with a minimum of effort, important when you are dealing with a 9 year old tomboy! She also gave her a cut that makes it easier to make her hair look great. My daughter is happy and so am I. She is wonderful!!!!!
I had been working with another stylist at this salon and heard that Nicole would meet with curly-haired clients free of charge for an initial, brief consultation on their hair. I made an appointment with her and in that brief time, she showed me how great my hair could look, how much easier it was to let it be what it wants to be ---curly--- and how to care for it so it will always look and feel great. What I especially appreciate about Nicole is that she is a real student of hair: she is Deva-trained and practices Deva principles. At the same time, if she knows that a different product or approach is best for the unique qualities of a client's hair, she'll recommend it without reservation. She respects her clients' budgets and her clients' time. She took me from being a person with a lifelong dislike of my hair to someone who loves what I have and now, wouldn't trade it if I could. I've been a proud and satisfied client for several years now so stop hating and fighting with your curly hair today!
I was SO excited waiting for my appt with Nicole based on the wonderful reviews I've read about her, but the day before the apt they called to confirm my apt with "Jan" not Nicole. When I said, " no, I'm supposed to see Nicole, I've been waiting for weeks to see her' the snotty front desk girl said, "Nicole isn't even working tomorrow. Jan is the owner, she's Deva certified , you'll be happy" day of apt was a bust, Jan did not cut curl by curl or follow the Deva cut method.. but I watched Nicole do it (yeah.. she was there.. and had another client, so imagine the snotty receptionist was trying to cover up her mistake) Nicole transformed the womans hair it was amazing!! .. she cut curl by curl , and the end product was great.... my hair.. not so much. it is really short desipte my "not too much off the length" request and I look like a mushroom head!!! As soon as my hair grows back out I will go back but I wont let anyone but Nicole touch my hair.. I can't wait, wish I would have stuck to my guns and not seen anyone but Nicole in the first place.
I found Nicole on this web site. After calling many stylists from Wichita east, I knew she was the person I wanted to cut and style my hair. It is a 225 mile round trip, if I don't get lost, to Salon Bliss. I washed my farm truck, on the day of my appointment got up early, took care of the livestock, and went to Kansas City. Nicole is just as the other review say, a curly girl herself, very skillful and talented, and a good teacher. Not knowing what products to buy I had since January relied on a no-poo regimen, a good department store conditioner, and EVOO. Nicole recommended one product and I asked for a second. I am not a young woman and have much less hair than even ten years ago. Still, having my curly hair go free and be as beautiful as possible is very important to me . With Nicole I was able to relax knowing that she would give me the best cut and teach me how to style my hair. Since I live so far away I will not see her again for a few months and certainly will not trust my hair to anyone else. Thank you, Nicole.
After going to a good, Deva trained stylist in a dirty salon in the Kansas City area, I began searching for another Deva trained stylist in a cleaner salon in a safer part of town and my search lead me to Nicole. Nicole is a seasoned stylist, a curly girl herself and has had extensive Deva training. She spent a good deal of time with me discussing products and techniques that I use and touching and looking at my hair. We talked about a cutting plan and then I got the BEST cut that I have had as a wavy girl! My hair was immediately different. The waves bounced up and the strategic layers gave me more volume and shape. I actually have an appointment with Nicole today and I cannot wait to go for my appointment as my hair improves every visit! Nicole is a sweetheart and you will feel safe knowing that your curls are in a master's hand!
After fighting my curly hair for my entire life, I finally just gave up. I discovered the book "Curly Girl" and then learned that Nicole Maere, here in my town (!), had trained in New York City at Devachon Salon with Lorraine Massey. It's been almost a year now, and I absolutely LOVE my hair. Nicole has a unique gift for finding the best style that suits not only my hair, but also gives me my best look. She is also an expert in the hair color technique of "Pintura", specifically designed for curly hair. Nicole's love of curly hair, and her attention to detail with her clients, is a gift, and an asset to Salon Bliss. I'm so glad I found her!
