Not recommended. Leigh was nice but not really sure why folks recommended her for curly hair. Does she have curly hair... yes, but that really has no basis on a stylist being good at cutting curly hair. I get great haircuts from straight haired folks if they have been trained to cut curly hair. My hair was uneven and just didn't look good, she also didn't own a diffuser (had to borrow it). Cute little salon and friendly just not for curly haired folks. I've found several really good stylists through this site (just not in Chicago). I travel for work and find this site helpful. The search for a good Chicago area stylist goes on.
All I can say is that Kim is great! I have lived in the Chicago area most of my life and have had great difficulty finding someone who could cut my hair (3b/c-but it is fine and has a couple of chunks that are just wavy). I usually give a stylist at least a year to get used to my hair before I decide that they really can't cut or style it well. I have only gone to Kim once, but she was able to fix a bad haircut and still make my hair look good. She really listened to me, was good about making product and care suggestions and showed me how to do a styling technique. Bottom line, I can't say enough good things about her. (I already made a follow-up appointment.) For those not in the area or who don't have a car, the salon is not very far away from the Barrington train station.
Leigh used to work at Shear Pleasure in Palatine but recently opened her own Salon In Barrington. I used to see her at her old salon and followed her to her new one. She is great with curly hair, and is very experienced since she has curly hair herself. Leigh is also really good at flat ironing my hair when I have special events to attend. I would recommend her to anyone. Nikki
