I drove 130 miles one way to get the right haircut for my naturally coily/kinky hair and it was worth every mile! Brynn was my stylist and she gave me the style that I wanted AND she cut my formerly long hair so that I can donate it to a worthy cause. I am very pleased with my service and my stylist and I look forward to my next visit!

I heard about Curltopia at a party and I have been without a perm for two years but have continued to straighten my hair. I went to Brynn for my initial visit and she was very helpful and knowledgeable about natural hair care. She suggested that I stop straightening my hair and go through a transition process since I do not want to do the big chop. My first natural style worked out really well (flat twist) and I received so many compliments. I have returned for my follow up and will try to rod set to mix it up. I feel I will be able to successfully transition with the help of Brynn and the Curltopia team. I highly recommend them.

My daughter and I had our first appointment with her last week. I am most interested in natural hair care for us as I have not been successful with care and need ideas for natural hair styles appropriate for Corporate America (me) and middle school (daughter). We looked great with our new styles and received MANY compliments as the week progressed. The 4 hours for the both of us were well spent. I'm looking forward to future appointments and having healthy fabulous hair!

This was my 1st visit to the salon. I arrived at my appointment time of 11:00. Well, it might have been 11:02, truth be told. My hairdresser was Brynn. I checked in and was seated. At about 11:20 Brynn informed me she was running behind. Quite some time later I was seated in the chair where we consulted and discussed my cut. Brynn cut my hair, in a way so that it could grow out evenly. We discussed tapering the hair near the nape of my neck but I asked to think about that for a few. Now during this time two other clients she had been working on were awaiting their next steps in the hairdo process. At this time her next client also walked in for her appointment. In total, there were 4 people awaiting a service of some kind from Brynn. After my hair was cut, she brought me over to be shampooed. At that time, I offered to take a seat and wait so she could get "caught up". That being said, she finished up the 2 clients she had begun before my arrival and got them out the door. She handed me over to someone else to be shampooed. The friendly hairdresser explained the "3-step" process as she went along. Basically, wash, condition, and add product. Problem here: TOO MUCH PRODUCT. My sopping wet hair was drowning in gel and conditioner. Heck, I was almost drowning in all the wetness and goo that was running down the sides of my face and neck. Next I was asked to sit under the dryer. When initially told about this step, I politely declined because the hair dryer makes my 3b hair flat. My hairdresser assured me I would only be under there for a few minutes prior to my request "diffuse" dry style. I was under that dryer long enough for my hair to be crisp-dried. Brynn wanted to diffuse my hair after that but I politely declined. My hair had almost no curl in it, from the weight of all the product plus it was dry now. Added to that it was now almost 3:00. WHO SPENDS 3-4 HOURS IN A SALON FOR A WASH, CUT AND STYLE?? In the end, I couldn't escape fast enough. I drove a good distance, based on all the rave reviews, and had to drive back home afterwards. I would have never spent my money or wasted nearly 4 precious hours of my life (not counting drive time) unless it was for life saving surgery. Sorry for the sarcasm, but the hairdresser was overwhelmed by being overbooked. If you want the salon to have continued success, please try staggering your clients a bit better. I will say the cut was good but it might have been better if my hairdressser was allowed some breathing room.

My first visit to the salon was great, the people there gave me some good advice and told me how to style my hair at home to get a look similar to the one i got in the salon. I got a haircut and the shape was great, she didn't cut too much off. I would definately return, and it is definitely worth the money.

My first curly hair appointment was last Friday and I had the pleasure of placing my beloved curls in the hands of James, Curltopia's master Deva stylist. James has a fabulously fun personality. He engages you in great conversation. I could tell he truly adores ethnic hair and its idiosyncracies. He gave me a Devacut, which I am currently still ga-ga over, and gave me a prescription and directions on how I can achieve the fluffy soft, 2nd-day look I now love at home. I will be definitely seeing him again soon for color!

Stylist: Nova

Rating: Salon Rating: 3 Scissors

I went to Curltopia a week ago. My appointment was scheduled from 12:30-2pm. I arrived ten minutes early and left at 6pm. I had a previous engagement at 5:30 pm, which I had to push back. My stylist was Nova and she somehow was double booked. Due to the recent snow storm that week, they probably got mixed up. The receptionist thought I had already been at the salon before and had experience with Nova. I explained that I was a first time customer and wanted a Deva Cut. I already stated this over the phone when scheduling my appointment. After waiting 30 minutes, I spoke with Nova about my hair needs. My sole reason for coming to the salon was to get a hair cut that would shape my hair up so that I no longer have a blockish/triangle look going on, reduce bulk at the bottom and achieve a somewhat elongated look. I showed her pictures of my hair freshly washed so that she can see how much my hair shrinks. I also showed her various pictures of what I was hoping to achieve. I have thick, dense, voluminous, frizzy hair. I was hoping for less volume with enough body, frizz free curls and a nice, playful cut. Basically I wanted a tamer, frizz free, well shaped version of what I already have. Nova did a finger style and trimmed my dead ends. No Deva cut which was what I went there for. She said the Deva Cut would just add volume, which was what I was trying to avoid. I am glad she told me that but I felt that she still could have done more than just trim my ends. I wanted my hair to be shaped up. So I left the salon with well defined popping, bouncing, free moving, shiny curls but no real cut. Because I was under the dryer my curls were also a lot shorter, stiffer and flatter than I would have liked. I wasn't too worried about it though because by day 2 my curls softened and my body was back. The curls lasted for 6 days. When I washed my hair out again, I even found some split ends. Had she done a better job on the cut I would have given the salon 5 stars. The services cost $105, which included trim, finger style and hydration treatment. I gave her a pretty decent tip because I do believe she did her very best but that cutting wasn't her strong suit. She even asked a master stylist for pointers with cutting my hair. If the receptionist would have listened to my hair needs better than maybe she could have booked me with someone who was more confident with cutting hair. Plus, she was unfairly double booked. I must say that Nova is a master at creating curls. My curls were popping. It was wild (in a good way)! Overall, Nova was very professional, super friendly and a blast to chat with. She seemed like a super fun person who really loves what she does. I probably will go back to her for the hydration treatment. I am still in search of a good curly cut though, especially since a good friend told me my hair didn't look that different. I was wanting a cut that was more noticeable/stunning. I didn't really get a cut at all just a trim. Fantastic job on the curls though. Everyone wanted to play with them!

I went to Curltopia back in August, and I'm going back Tuesday. My stylist was James, and I am using him again. Nobody knows how to work with my rebellious curls until I met James. He is knowledgeable when it comes to curly hair. He took the time to explain my hair type and what products work best. I was hesitant about getting my hair cut shoulder-length, but I loved it! The curls were so much healthier and fuller. He is definitely an educated stylist.

Not only is he confident and knowledgeable about cutting and caring for curly hair, but he is also fun to be around. The Deva Cut was such a great experience and James gave me the best hair cut I have ever had. James educated me about what DevaCurl products would work well for my hair and, most importantly, he showed me how to use them. I am really enjoying these products. The salon staff was also very friendly and helpful. My Curltopia experience exceeded my expectations and I can’t wait to go back for my next appointment!

She greeted me like she knew me for years. I thought I had a mess on my head, but Nova was very reassuring. She taught me alot and gave me ways to do what I have been doing a little better. Nova did not make me feel like a newbie to being natural at all. Nova had other clients the same time she was working with me. I never felt like I was waiting for her. Nova was amazing. I would recommend her and the salon to anyone going natural.

My early-teen daughter has difficult, curly hair. We've tried chemical treatments for straightening - they last about 1/2 the time they are supposed to. We've tried straightening irons and they just take to long with the thickness of her hair, and on a humid day in Georgia, it doesn't last anyway. She's at the age where her appearance has become important to her, but she lacks the practice and skill to manage curly hair easily - everyday was a ponytail. I cannot believe the transformation in her hair after an afternoon at Curltopia with James. She now loves her curls and there really isn't any styling needed once the products are applied after her shower. It's a great cut and James spent a lot of time explaining to her how to apply the products. I'm really excited for her! I highly recommend the salon!

Today was my first time coming to Curltopia. After trying, unsuccessfully, to tame my unruly mane, I came in to seek professional assistance. Nova was my stylist and patiently listened as I shared my hair saga. After treating my tresses, my hair's condition was not as bad as I believed it to be. She did a twist-out and rod set which met my hair's specific need. I'm glad I was referred to Curltopia!

I went to Curltopia hopeful and scared at the same time. The receptionist I spoke with, Mercedes, was so knowledgeable and helpful. She was the first person who empathized with my concerns and assured me that Robin would be able to address every concern I had about my hair. She did not lead me astray. Robin took her time to talk with me and educate me on what needed to be done to get the hair I have always wanted. After 4 months, my hair is longer than it's ever been, healthier than it's ever been, and I am happier than I have ever been with my hair. It takes me 45 min to drive to Curltopia but I would drive double that for the quality of cut and product that they offer.

I went to Curltopia on July 25, 2013, and my Stylist was Brynn. This was my very first visit to the salon and I was blown away. The experience was great from the phone call made to book my appointment all the way to the end. I am 100% natural and I have been having my hair blown out for the past 2 years. This was the very first time I've gone to a salon and actually planned on coming out with a true natural style. Brynn explained everything that she was planning on doing to my hair, and all of the products that she was going to use. She trimmed my ends and I had a steam hydration and a deep conditioning done to my hair. My end style was a flat two strand twist out, which I loved and it actually lasted a week and half. Before I left a made my next appointment, but I ended up having to reschedule. I would recommend Curltopia to anyone looking for a positive hair experience.

One thing I remembered...moisturize, moisturize, moisturize and I am amazed at the results I have so quickly. Thanks Curltopia, I will be back!!!

I wouldn't recommend Curltopia to ANYONE due to the level of unprofessionalism of the owner. I had a bad deva cut experience (arm pit length to above the shoulder, which is what I requested, but upon washing my hair, I found an unreasonable amount of long hair in my head and the frizz level was off the charts). This is the short version, the long version is on yelp.

Now, had trisha been more professional and kind about it, and maybe apologized for my experience at least once, I would be much more understanding.

Curltopia rocks! I wanted a “new” look and decided to get color! I was both excited & nervous at the same time since color can dry hair out big time. Brynn , my Master stylist, & Trish, the receptionist both ensured I was comfortable during my appointment. Brynn worked wonders with my color & style! She took the time to consult on my lifestyle & how “daring” I wanted to be with my new look. I’ve gotten so many compliments on my color & the style after I took my flat twists out. I scheduled an appt. for a straw set on 7/2, but when I arrived on 7/3 no stylist had been assigned to style my hair. After 10 minutes of waiting, a junior stylist became available because of a no show. During my shampoo, I mentioned to the junior stylist that I was interested in getting color and cut, however, she proceeded to tell me she didn't have time to do it that day (yet she ended up taking two walk in clients during my 6 hr stint at the salon). After putting the rods in my hair, Brynn placed me under the dryer for approx. 3 hrs while she worked on two other clients hair. Sadly, she tried to place me back under the dryer for an additional 1 hour after I'd already been under it for 3 hrs. I believe she was attempting to buy time so that she could complete a hair trim and finger style on one of her walk in clients. I was extremely livid at the substandard customer service I received from the junior stylist and management as a whole. This company is not BBB accredited so the only way to make customers aware of this terrible experience is to leave a review. Management acknowledged the unnecessary length of time I spent at the salon, as I was checking out, yet still charged me $90 for a straw set. Again, I arrived at the salon at 10:30 a.m. and left at 5:00 p.m. They offered me a free hydration treatment(s) (owner never specified the exact number), but I will not be patronizing this business anymore. This was my 3rd visit to the salon, and I must say it was the worse visit this time. If you must use this salon, make sure you deal with a Master Stylist. It will cost more, but they're professsional and manage their schedules well. From now on, I will be using Deeply Rooted or Curlie Girlz Rock Salon. P.S. the salon offers a free hydration treatment to clients who post 4 reviews...hence...the reason why it has so many positive reviews.

She did, however, answer all of my questions about how to maintain the hairstyle she had given me. -LJM

I really wanted to like this salon. It's location is great and it specializes in natural and curly hair. This was my first time at the salon. I was referred to Brynn when I called in to make my appointment since the stylist I wanted to go to no longer works there. I told my stylist that I was making the transition from relaxed hair to natural hair and wanted to cut off the rest of my relaxed hair. She asked me when my last relaxer was and I told her I wasn't exactly sure but I guessed and said about a month. She told me to wait until I had more new growth without really looking at my new growth. I was willing to cut my hair extremely short just to be rid of the relaxed hair...but she didn't suggest that. I already have short hair and she recommended flat twist out as a protective style and it should last about a week. The style didn't even last through the next day (and I covered my hair with the satin bonnet as suggested)! I was SO disappointed after paying money and sitting under the dryer all morning to then have to wash my hair the very next day because my hair looked so horrible. I tried this salon after reading all of the positive reviews...so at the end of my own appointment when I was given a sheet telling me to review the salon and for each review I would get a $25 credit for a steam hydration treatment I then realized why they had so many positive reviews. Who would give a BAD review and then call back and make an appointment for a free treatment and expect star treament?! Exacly...

Brynn shaped my curls into a very cute, edgy cut, and set my hair in a gorgeous finger style. I was given a 'natural hair prescription' which specificially outlined how to care for and enhance my curls between visits. However, I won't be needing this prescription because this place is a sanctuary! Robin cut it dry, and everything she said about my hair as she was cutting it made total sense. She understands curly hair! I brought in a picture, and it came out looking just like it and was really perfect for my face. I always thought my hair just couldn't look this good. She really took her time with it, and gave me a great lesson on styling and a moisturizing treatment. It is on the expensive side (though not more than you'd pay for any nice haircut), but they were upfront about the price and it was so worth it! She basically cut each individual curl and I couldn't be happier with it. I'll definitely be coming back! As a sidenote, I wasn't sure if the salon was for all hair types, but while I was there the clientele seemed really diverse (ie, about half black girls and half white girls).

I have been natural for a few years now and was really afraid of putting my hair in an unknown person's hands. Curltopia was referred to me by a seasoned curly girl and I finally gave them a call. They were GREAT; very accomodating to my calendar and preferred stylist and the salon is so calming and inviting. Stacie - the bomb! I was instantly put at ease as she explained everything to me. I even discoverd I have a wonderful, NATURAL curl pattern that I didn't know even existed until the finger style was done! I will forever be a loyal customer!

I had a hair emergency that needed to be dealt with immediately. I called Curltopia and they were able to get me in the same day. Tiffany did an excellent job on my hair. She had to cut several inches of my natural hair to fix a mistake done by another stylist at another salon. I transitioned to natural and did not do the big chop but with Tiffany cutting so much of my hair, it felt like the big chop. I LOVE it. I have gotten so many compliments on my hair.

I called Curltopia hoping to schedule an appointment in the next few days and I was offered a same day appointment, which was great news! I had used a hard water shampoo on my hair and could not get the moisture back into my hair. My hair was frizzy, dry and had absolutely no shine. I arrived at Curltopia and was greeted right away, there was no waiting period. Shy introduced her self and was very friendly. I told her my dilemma and she listened and gave me assurance that she could help me. Shy washed my hair, massaged my scalp and then placed me under the hydrating steamer with a deep conditioning treatment. I had decided to have my hair flat ironed (first time in over a year) but I was nervous that my hair would not look good since it had been so frizzy. The results were AMAZING! My hair feels soft and moisturized and it has so much bounce. I am so glad that I went! Shy also recommended a moisturizing conditioner for me to use while at home. I cant wait to go back for my second hydration appointment in 2 weeks with Shy.

I vistied Curltopia Feb 20, 2013. The salon atmosphere was awesome liked the hanging mirrors and the stylists' stations. My hairstylist Tiffany did educate me about my hair she explained to me that my hair texture was botticelli curls which I never knew, which is in the 3 group. This helped me to know that the best products for my hair would be emollients/humectants. The only thing I would probably need is another tutorial on how to apply the styling prodcut for my wash and gos. So I will make another appointment so that Tiffany can show this technique again. I did get the Deva-cut whihc at first I wasn't too impress with the results but 1 week later I LOVED it. Got so many compliments. Before I went I was very concern about the cut because I wasn't sure if I had to have alot of my hair cut. But she made me real comfortable and had me look in the mirror entire time she was cutting. Very impress and will be going back again for sure. Great job Tiffany! :)

I am in the process of transitioning from relaxed to natural. It's been a year since I've succumbed to the creamy crack and it's been somewhat difficult. I had be going to the Dominican salons to get my hair "straightened" and "blown out" but all my hair got was burned, fried, & dried! My hair is very weird and even more so now that it's literally like half natural and have relaxed. I'm too chicken to do the big chop so I decided to try out Curltopia because I was told they specialize in helping with the transition. My stylist Tiffany is awesome! She is completely professional and very knowledgeable. I told her my hair tangles very easily and I am very tender-headed and what used to be a tearful nightmare to comb out my hair after a shampoo at the Dominican salons was like a dream when Tiffany was combing out my hair. She did it so gentle I could barely feel a thing and the blow drier was not hot at all. She made me feel comfortable and she listened to the specific things I told her about my hair and she wasn't judgemental at all. I will definitely be going back every couple weeks as per my "prescription" she gave me and I am very happy that Curltopia will be along for the ride to help make my transition a "smooth" one! :0)

Thank goodness finding Deva trained stylists is getting more common, but finding a 3rd Level Deva certified stylist who is a true style maker such as Robin is uncommon From the get go we had great communication about what she thought would work for my fine, medium hair that needed lots more layering with that great curl by dry curl cutting method. The cut she gave me is what I've wanted for a long time but had a hard time articulating untill now. It's always nice having the Deva method of styling (soaking wet, under the hood dryer] but the true test for a good cut, is if my quicker method of styling (closer to Curly Hair Solutions way) still works with the cut. Plus Robin is such an upbeat, relateable person to talk to. I'm really looking forward to my next cut in a few months.

That includes a cut, steam treatment, deep condition and style. Stacy was great and professional. She worked fast but I never felt rushed. She was very knowledgable about my nautrual hair. My first impression of Curltopia was "Top of the Line and Ahead of the Rest". I felt very welcomed to the salon upon entering. I have been natural since May 2011 through transitioning from a relaxer versus getting the "Big Chop". The first 10 months of my journey consisted of me getting a flat press out on my hair. Needless to say I has tons of heat damage. My visit to Curltopia was to finally get those damaged ends cut off and a style that I liked....Robin was GREAT!!!! She took time to talk with me about what I wanted to achieve and offered her sincere suggestions for my hair. She is extremely skilled and knowledgable in her craft. She was assisted by James for the day and he was very attentive. Robin explained every step of the DevaCurl process to me and never forced any of the products on me. She even gave me a list of the steps to follow when I get home as well as the products she used. I will certainly visit again. In fact I have already scheduled my next visit for a trim and color with Robin.

I visited the salon last month for my very first Deva Cut. The atmosphere at the salon is nice (a little different from other salons I've been to). I was extremely pleased with the service I received from Ashli. She was honest about what I did need and also what I didn't need (which I really appreciated). She explained every step of the process, explained how I could do the same thing at home, and answered all of my questions. Even my time under the dryer (which I usually dread) was decent as I was offered a beverage and given a copy of "Curly Girl" to read while my hair dried. I will definitely return to see Ashli for my next Deva Cut.

The waiting area is comfortable, with reading material in which you're interested, and they offer you a refreshment. The stylist, Ashli, is very nice. She asks you what you want and then give a professional assessment on the viability of doing that style for your hair. She is very gentle/considerate about doing your hair, and my hair has never felt so clean. Ashli instructs you how to take care of your style and hair care. I was looking for a natural hair salon in the Georgia area and had no idea where to go. I started calling around to make an appointment for a consultation and no one was available that day. I called Curltopia and the receptionist told me there was an opening at 5pm. So I got in my car and made my way down to Curltopia. The salon was easy to find. When I stepped inside the receptionist was on the phone but told me she would be with me in a minute (she was very nice). The waiting area was really nice and I didn't have to wait long for my stylist to come and assist me. We sat down and spoke about what I wanted to have done and she explained to me various options that would help me achieve the look I was going for. You could tell she knew her stuff. She walked me through what she would be doing today and she began with my service right away. She worked very fast (which I love I hate being in the salon long). She was very professional and answered every question I had. Several times she checked in to see if everything was okay and if I would like something to drink. I was very pleased with my visit to Curltopia and the professionalism of the staff there. I was in and out and so happy with my final look. I was concerned about my hair being dry and was looking for a good moisturizer and shampoo. Before I left she wrote out an entire list of products I could use to achieve the same look she gave me (they call it a hair prescription). That is exactly what I needed and was happy they provided me with that (most salons tell you what to use and I forget by the time I get to the car. At Curltopia they wrote it out for me). I really enjoyed my visit and was extremely pleased with the final outcome. I will be visiting again :)

There was so much anticipation for my Curltopia appointment! I live in another state and decided to come out of my Sisterlocks after 12 years. I spoke by phone with knowledgeable staff prior to scheduling for services and felt that the advice for transitioning was clear and doable. The salon itself is both welcoming and chic with bright colors and whimsical light fixtures. All of the stylists were friendly and attentive, offering beverages (water, herbal tea, coffee) and reading material while under the dryer. Ashli was my stylist and her calm demeanor eased my nervousness about a style that would flatter and accommodate my active lifestyle. She took the time to hear out my needs, look at pictures and discuss possibilities. Ashli seemed to know EXACTLY what products would work best with my hair texture and curl pattern. Curltopia is the best if you are on the verge of making that step from the relaxed to the natural hair world. My experience there changed my viewpoint and gave me a positive outlook about my hair. Over the last year, my work had me traveling 80% of the time. So I decided to wear sew in weaves and braid to keep my hair from being damaged from lack of maintenance. At first, the styles were beautiful, but at the end of the day, my hair was constantly damaged to the point that most of my relaxed hair had major breakage. I decided to go to see Ashley and the team at Curltopia and they guided me step by step through the transition process. I decided to do the big chop and unleashed my natural curls. I never knew what my actual hair looked like nor that I had such curly hair. They educated me on the products and used the best quality products for my hair. Plus, I got a full treatment on my hair from start to finish in less than 2 hours. The prices were excellent and far exceeded less what I was expecting to pay. This was my 1st visit to Curltopia. Very professional setting and stylists. I'm trying to transition into my natural state, it's been about 3.5 months since relaxer. I'd been wearing a weave for about 7 to 8 months and wasn't happy with the damage to my hair. Ashli, who's a Jr stylist was very knowledgable about the steps to take for the process. She explained everything in detailed to me and understood my position of not wanting to cut all my hair off to achieve the process and offered options of a happy medium. She made me aware of the very lengthy drying time for each process, so I could plan accordingly. I 1st tried the flat twists, but after sweating the next day, they fell more than I expected. I called Ashli and she immediately scheduled me for another appt (complimentary) since the 1st didn't hold up to my daily activites like expected. I tried the rod set next, smaller sized and these have held much better. As the days progress, they tend to look better. I have a few strands, but nothing drastic. I appreciate that you receive a deep condition each service, since our hair can dry easily. Overall, I would suggest this salon to a friend. I think the prices for some services may be a little pricey, but if the work is good/great, then it would be worth it I suppose. I have my 2nd appt in a few days. I've been to Curltopia once to get a consultation on my hair and some products. I scheduled for a two strand twist out also. This was in October 2011 and it was the first time I would be wearing my natural hair out for a while without straightening it. My stylist let me know about the condition of my hair and answered any questions I had and took her time styling my hair. I got a shampoo, conditioner, and styling foam to use to twist my hair and I still use these products 9 months later to maintain my hair. The salon is very well decorated and customer friendly. I don't really have any complaints. Great first time experience and for those starting off natural. I absolutely love how it's a salon for people with hair just like you. After being away for a couple of years, I realized that I do need natural hair expe...rts to evaluate my curls over time because products change and what worked yesterday may not work today. I visited the salon in June and Brynn did my hair. She was very knowledgable and provdes me with a list of products that work best on my hair type. I was very pleased with the results and will visit Curltopia on a more regular basis.See More

Had my first appt. with Stacey at Curltopia about a month ago. I have since been back for one other appt. Stacey is very professional and knowledgeable about the natural hair process. I had been growing my natural hair out for about 1 yr. 9months. Needless to say, my hair was very dry and dull. During my growing out phrase, I wore my hair in braids some of the time and for almost the last year, I mostly wore a sow-in. I was never so happy to see my own natural hair for the first time in many years. Stacey evaluated my hair and made suggestions as to what she thought would be best for me. I was very pleased at the outcome on my very first visit and also on my subsequent visit where I got color. Stacey worked with me to find a color, as I had no idea what color to go with. I learned so much about my natural hair in the two visits to Curltopia. I recommend Stacey Johns if you want to be educated about your natural hair and want someone who can tailor the needs of your particular hair to only you. Sooooooo... excited about my new look and the freedom I'm feeling!!!! By the way, the ambience in the salon is wonderful....very relaxing

This was my first visit to Curltopia. I have been transitioning and wanted to get some advice on how to moisturize my dry, frizzy hair. I was pleasantly surprised by how relaxing and welcoming the salon was. I was greeted by the receptionist immediately upon entering, Brynn shampooed and deep conditioned my hair. She then studied my hair and explained to me what I needed to do to moisturize my hair. She wrote me a detailed hair prescription that listed not only what products to use but how to use them. Well, it has been 3 weeks since my visit, and I can see a noticeable improvement in my hair. Thanks for the great experience.

I want to thank the ladies at Curltopia for helping me see the light. I was almost ready to chop it all off, but I decided to give it one more try. Stacey not only styled my hair, but showed me how to style it & explained the products that she was using. I think I found my new home...for my hair. The overall atmosphere was nice and pleasant, and i can't wait to go back. :)

I came here to get consultation/advice on my transitioning hair. I'm pleased to say, when I walked in, the atmosphere was relaxing. I was immediately greeted by the receptionist. My hair was extremely dry and frizzy. Brynn washed and deep conditioned my hair and provided a hair prescription listing not only products to purchase but it also mentioned how to use them to hydrate my hair. She also took time to explain the condition of my hair. It has been a few weeks and I tried most of the suggested products with a measure of success. I'm glad I had the opportunity to work with Brynn. She did not style my hair as I declined to have it styled at that time. However, her recommendations for hydrating my hair were great.

I arrived at 2:00 pm on a Friday the salon was not extremely busy but she did have someone in the chair when I came in. I was seen by Brynn at around 2:10 which was fine, I enjoyed the salon and the atmosphere. Brynn was knowledgeable and open and honest about my hair and expressed that I had heat damage and what I could do to further prevent damage. She washed and steam conditioned my hair which was heavenly she explained step by step what she was doing and what products she used, which I loved!!! Brynn asked if I wanted a cut and I showed her how much I wanted cut which was a trim and she was careful to follow my wishes- that was very refreshing... shes not cut happy I was very at ease and we both talked about our lives and experiences. Brynn and I discussed flat twisting would be the best way for me to allow my hair to grow out and prevent further damage. She twisted my hair and sat me under the dryer, the only caveat was it took my hair 3 hours plus to dry!!!! My hair was fully wet going under the dryer and I did not realize it would take that long, what I do suggest is that the salon incorporates some type of cooling system such as a fans or air registers more concentrated towards the dryers also the salon needs to invest in a refrigerator that makes ice or have ice available for their clients. I was constantly drinking water but eventually the water would turn room temperature due to the heat This could be a great help to clients that have hours to sit under the dryers. When my hair finally dried she had her associate take my hair down and it was perfect!!! That experience was so calming to me. I would be back possible once every month or two. Bryn thoroughly explained my prescription to me I was able to purchase some of the products but not all of them. I will get them eventually, mid week I ended up having to re-twist my hair but that's not a problem, my hair is very soft and I expected this. Overall it was a great experience and I will be back, I know to make my appointment at 6 and sit up under the dryer for an hour and then come back in the morning to have them take it down, that is an option as well. I wanted to take a moment to share my experience at Curltopia. I wanted to wait a week to see how my hair looks, and I love it! I cannot stay enough positive things about this salon and quality of the service. Tiffany, my stylist, was punctual, professional and friendly. She took the time to explain what she was doing at each step and answered any questions that I had. She was timely. She started my appointment at 8am, and I was done @ 10:30am. She even provided a “hair prescription” which featured the specific products that I needed to care for my hair in between appointments. I’ve already made my appointment for the next time!

This was my second time at this salon, but first with this stylist. Overall the visit was ok, but I will not be returning. My first appointment was with Nova, but she wasn't working there anymore so I got rescheduled with Brynn. Brynn was very friendly and professional. However, I was there to get highlights, and the salon didn't have any type of swatches for me to pick from. She brought me magazines to look through, but the majority of the people in is was a different race than me so it was hard to see what would look good against my skin tone. So when the service was over ($120!!!!), I could barely see any color in my hair. I told her I wanted it to be a light brown so the color could "pop". But it ended up being a dark brownish red color and you could barely see that there was color. I didn't really notice until I got home because the salon has so many windows and the sun was so bright there. Needless to say, I was pretty disappointed. I gave the rating a 3 because this salon is very nice and professional and I think it's perfect for people who are in the beginning phases of going natural. They seem to be polite and informative regarding that. But once you find the products that work for you, I would say to do your hair from home or find someone who specializes in certain phases of your hair. I am getting my color redone for about half the price this weekend to fix what was done at the shop. Needless to say, I will not be back. But I would encourage people who are new to "going natural" to go and learn from this salon because it is good for clients with natural hair. But once you find out what works for you, do your hair from home.

The salon atmosphere met well above my satisfaction! The salon was clean and well organized. I appreciated the unique contemporary environment feel. Their customer service was excellent, as they were all extremely nice and welcoming from the beginning I walked through the door! My stylist, Tiffany was informative and more than willing to educate me on my hair. She provided me step by step details on each product that she put in my hair as well as an explanation for its use. Additionally, my stylist also provided me a break down for the care of my hair with a written hair “prescription” providing details on the type of cleanser/conditioner to use, style aid, moisturizer, maintenance, etc. Although I have been provided consultations and feedback about my hair from past stylists, I have NEVER received a detailed, in depth written description as such. The salon was well above and beyond my expectations!! And for that specific reason, I will be a returning customer. Curltopia Rocks! :)

I was very pleased with the salon. Very up to date equipment and set up with the customer in mind: ie ceiling fans placed over the hairdryer area to counteract the heat. The customer service was splendid. Everyone is very friendly and professional. Tiffany, my stlyist informed me of what she was doing and why she was doing it to my hair. The products that were suggested for my hair type, when she applied them gave my hair great definition and shine. I purchased them and am looking forward to using them at home and attaining the same result.

I have to say, I was a bit skeptical about going in for a Devacut since I only have wavy hair (2b, fine texture, normal elasticity, normal porosity); I wasn't sure how much it would actually do for me and whether it would really give me a dramatic difference (especially since I'm not one to spend money on a haircut unless I'm pretty sure I'll see a difference). However, after seeing my results, the only regret I have is that I didn't get a Devacut from Robin sooner. Robin is one of the best stylists I've ever had (and I've tried a bunch through moving over 5 times in the last 10 years). During the consultation portion, she really listened to my questions and concerns (reducing the weight of my hair, keeping the length mostly the same, making my waves perk up), and made sure to repeat them in her own words so we both were on the same page. After listening to me talk about going CG and being a part of naturallycurly.com, I briefly mentioned I was also thinking of trying clipping; that was when she offered to show me how to clip (which I gladly accepted). Once she did my dry cut, I could already see my waves perk up. After she washed my hair and put product in it, she gave me a mirror to hold and explained how to clip. Then, after my hair dried from sitting under the hood dryer, she brought me back over to her station, scrunched out the crunch, did some final editing on my hair cut, and gave me a list of instructions on how to achieve the same look at home. She also asked me if I needed any product and when I said I was fine, she didn't push (which was extremely nice - I've had stylists insist I need whatever products they used and it made me not want to return to the salon, so I was very grateful Robin didn't do that). Overall, I was extremely pleased with my Devacut from Robin; she was worth every single penny and I will definitely be going back.

I have to first say that I am SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO happy that I found this salon! I know this sounds weird, but what impressed me most was that when I walked in, I saw people with natural curls and I did not get choked on the smell of blowdryers and flat irons. I loved the salon and my stylist Brynn, she was very knowledgeable about the different products necessary for my hair and we were able to map out a plan for me since I do have some thermal heat damage. I would highly recommend this salon to anyone that is looking for a place to go that loves curls and want you to look your best with your curls. This is truly a Walk-in with Curls and Leave-out with Curls salon

I was finally able to get to Curltopia after years of searching for a hair salon and solution for taming my hair and it was so worth it! I've struggled all of my life trying to figure out what to do with my hair to the point that I've just about given up! After having my hair done by Brynn I'm actually excited about being natural now! I've tried almost every product you name and spent hundreds of ...dollars on hair products. When I left my hair felt so soft and healthy. I look forward to going back and starting the process of getting my hair healthy again and completely natural. The staff makes yo feel very comfortable and the salon is really pretty! The only negative comment that I have is that my hair only lasted one day =(

This was my first time at Curltopia, and I will definitely be back! The minute I arrived, Robin took me over to her station and began a consultation about how my hair was already cut, the curls, and what could be improved by having a Deva cut. Every concern I had had in the past with the way my hair was curling and the way it was laying was addressed before I even got to tell her the concerns myself. After cutting my hair dry, Robin washed it and provided me with a step by step demonstration on how to use different styling products to reduce frizz and maximize the curl, and I was then given a cheat sheet of instructions on how to repeat the process at home. The new products and the cut that is tailored to curly hair has definitely made a difference in the way in which my hair curls! I'll be back! Thank you!

I always look forward to my hair appointment at Curltopia. From the moment I walk in the door, the receptionist always greets me with a warm smile. Not long after that Stacie greets me with her bubbly personality. May I add, being seen at the time of your appointment is a BIG plus. I have been natural since January and was not sure how it was going to work out for me. I have been going to Curltopia since April, and if I would have known Stacie would be able to make my natural curls look as good as they do now, I would have embraced the transition from relaxed to natural a long time ago. She is very patient and extremely knowledgeable as I had many questions to ask about my hair. What is even better is how she will show you step by step how to take care of your natural curl yourself at home and what products will work best for your curl type. You can purchase the products right there. How convenient is that? It does not get any better. I walk out of the salon with a smile and feeling good. Thank you Stacie and Curltopia.

My experience at Curltopia was a very pleasant one. I decided that I would get the "big chop" on may 19,2012 and chose Curltopia as the salon to do it. When I first walked in, I was nervous, naturally but I was quickly put at ease by how nice the staff was, and how they greeted me. The atmosphere was very hip and trendy. There was music playing in the background. I got to my appointment 30 minutes early so I had to sit and wait for a bit. When I was taken back, I recieved a complimentary deep condition and finally the cut. Nova is very sweet and personable and did a wonderful job on my hair. She wrote me a prescription of products for my hair along with instructions on how to use each product. (Very helpful) I will be returning to Curltopia. I am very excited to watch my hair grow long, strong, and healthy.

On the day of my appointment, my stylist, Stacie, listened to what I wanted and from there explained (in detail) all of my options. I decided to do the big chop and I am so happy that I did. I LOVE my hair!!! Stacie took her time and taught me how to maintain my hairstyle between appointments. I also thought that the prescription that was provided that listed all of the products that I would need and how to use them made my transition to natural much easier. I'd heard so many great reviews of Curltopia so I decided to try them. Boy was I disappointed! First of all, my appointment was at noon. I arrived a little early and checked in at the front desk. My stylist, Brynn, didn't acknowledge me until 12:28. I was planning to walk out at 12:30. While she acknowledged me at 12:28, she really didn't start on my hair until 12:44 (can you tell I was timing all this?). After I'd been at the salon for awhile, I can't blame Brynn for the delay as much as the front desk because I realized that they weren't telling stylists when their clients arrived. I was a first-timer so Brynn didn't know me, nor did I know she was my stylist. I went to get my hair colored. I only wanted to get my grays colored so I got the same color as my natural hair. Let me say that I love the color - not a gray in sight. What I don't love is the fact that 2 days later, I still have hair color on my skin. When I googled how to remove hair color, most recommendations were preventive. I don't get color often but I do know that Brynn didn't put any type of cream or vaseline along my hairline to protect my skin. As such, I have dark brown skin along my hairline. While getting my hair done I informed Brynn that I normally wear my hair in twists all week and take them out on the weekends. Initially I was going to get a fingerstyle but then we settled on twists left in when I mentioned working out the following day. I've gone to 2 other salons and never had to tell the stylists what size twists to give. Well my twists were entirely too big. You could see all the parts and it wasn't something that I could wear all week. I ended up washing my hair Sunday and retwisting. In the end I got what I wanted in that my grays are colored. But I got a little extra with hair dye on my face and having to re-do my hair the next day. I won't be back.

I grew up in Miami, FL, where I was told that my frizzy big hair was just how it was. I went through MANY stylists who had no idea how to cut curly hair yet care for it. I read the book and researched salons and stylists. Robin came highly recommend and there is a reason why. She help to remove the damaged ends (other stylists did) and she took her time to educate me not only on how, but why you do these steps. She is incredibly intelligent about many things especially curly hair. When she was done I almost cried. I looked like me in the mirror. I haven't looked like myself in a long time. Everyone made me feel ashamed of my hair and so I straightened and tucked the frayed ends behind my ears. I left the salon feeling beautiful because I felt proud! Thank you Robin.

I had the best haircut I've ever had a few weeks ago at Curltopia. Maxine was brilliant. I have very curly hair and was interested in the Deva cut- I've had the Deva cut before at a different salon but I hated how crazy my hair looked afterwards. I told Maxine what I wanted and she cut it exactly. She was so sweet and fun to talk to during my cut and talked me through everything she did so I could replicate it at home. The salon is really cute and boutique-y, and I also loved the music. Basically, I had an excellent experience and I was very nervous about it. after going through tons and tons of reviews online I decided to make an appt at Curltopia salon. My goal was to learn more about how to manage my hair (4C) which daily is a headache to deal with. The salon itself has a chic feminine vibe. There were ladies already in chairs getting serviced and I have to say, if you are looking for some hair motivation you will definitely find it there. There were so many women who had gorgeous natural hair! My appt was with master stylist Stacy, which initially going in I felt more comfortable because I assumed that she would be able to help me with handling my hair. I must say that Stacy did a great job with my finger style and my hair has never looked so shiny and defined before. Im on 4 day hair and it still looks great. Its funny because when I got home my husband asked if my hair was supposed to stayed in the curl/coil style and I said yes. I plan on making this salon my go to for years to come.

Giselle was very knowledgeable and very good! My first experience at a salon that catered to curly hair exceeded my expectations because of Giselle. She took the time and walked/talked me through each step of the process and explained why she was using certain products. I will see her in 2 weeks! I definitely recommend her to anyone wanting coils or twist.

I decided to visit Curltopia after seeing such great results with my daughter's hair. I have worn my hair in a short natural for more than 20 years but was never satisfied with the results once it started growing. To make matters worse, my hair has permanent color. About 6 months ago, i decided to start letting it grow and I visited Curltopia Jan 2012 with Maxine as my stylist. She was wonderful!!! She provided valuable information and instruction for keeping my hair healthy. The products she recommended are just what I needed for my hair. The salon was comfortable and the staff friendly, courteous and informative. I loved being in a salon without the smell of chemicals!!! I am looking forward to many more visits with Maxine as my stylist.

"Max"ine has "max"imum power to transform the way you look and feel. I walked into Curltopia without an appointment but with an extreme hair emergency. I was almost turned away by the receptionist as there were no appointments available, but Maxine came to my rescue! She worked me into what I'm sure was a very hectic schedule on a Saturday morning. My hair was damaged and I was feeling completely bummed about my look. I was ready for a drastic intervention like chopping all of my hair off and starting over. Maxine was professional, knowledgeable, patient and super talented at styling my hair in a 2-strand flat twist set that required little cutting and showed no signs of damage! She educated me about my hair, and advised me on what products to purchase and use for regular home maintenance! I've been using the products as advised and my hair continues to look healthy! I was thoroughly pleased with the service at Curltopia, and cannot wait for my next visit to receive the "Max"imum experience!

I was really exicted about getting my hair done at curltopia. I did allot of research from you tube, the website itself and friends that have gone there in the past. The atmosphere was fine and they were pretty busy on a Saturday. When I made the appt, I didn't specify whom I wanted to see. The junior stylist did my hair. I was really nervous but she consulted with the other sytlists with my hair. The color was fine but the cut was fantastic. It framed my face wonderfully and my hair looked and felt super healthy. The styling was not something I would have done. I got a fingerstyling and with my hair, I prefer a flat twist because I love volume. I just didn't want to spend too much money because I was getting color and a cut. So I didn't leave super happy. I will try this place again but next time I will go with the Master sytlist, I think her name is Stacy. My experience there was fine and the junior stylist was really nice and tried to put me at ease but I wasn't happy with the end styling result. Again, I have to stress that the cut was great and the color was ok. Why I say the color was ok was because I came into the salon with blonde and brown hair.....I left the salon with chocolate brown hair. So it is going to take some getting used to. I am definitley going to come back and try out a master stylist to see what my hair can look like.

I've wanted to go to Curltopia for years, and I was finally able to go yesterday (1/26/12)! The atmosphere of the salon was great & I loved the interior design; I definitely felt welcomed! Jay was my stylist, and she was AWESOME! I haven't had a real trim in years b/c I was more focused on length than health. Jay gave me a great trim that left my hair in wayyyy BETTER condition than before.. I absolutely love my haircut! Jay gave me the perfect natural hair prescription, & I bought right after my appointment. I appreciate the fact that Jay gave me honest advice about my hair without pushing me to do anything, she was nice, and she answered all of my questions while teaching me new things about my hair & products. I have already seen an instant improvement in my curls now that I'm following Jay's advice & the prescription. I feel that I'm on the right track to regaining healthy hair! Thank you sooo much Jay & Curltopia! I'm telling all of my curly friends about this wonderful salon, & I will definitely be back! :D

Let me start off by saying the customer service at this salon is amazing. I would say the best I've had in the Atlanta area. Trust me, a smile goes a long way. Now on to the important matters. I have natural hair, and have done at least 3 major chops in the last two years. The last time I chopped off my hair, was a result of heat damage. I must say after leaving the salon, I felt like a new woman. After just two visits my hair feels and looks healthier. Ive also been using the products prescribed to me during each visit and it def helps maintain my hair until the next apt. I would recommend Giselle to anyone.... Another note, Lets just say you have an emergency and you cant get to your stylist. Please feel comfortable in knowing that anyone at this salon can service all of your hair care needs. Alea Cimone

Curltopia Is The Best! Today (1/19/12) I had the pleasure of going to Curltopia for the first time. It's so funny because I found out about the salon from naturally curly.com. Before my arrival I had already recieved such good customer service from the friendly phone reminders! Once I arrived I was very pleased with the decor of the salon and how inviting it was! To top it off my stylist Jordan was THE best! Very professional and empathetic. She immediately made me feel comfortable and confident about my curly hair! I was somewhat discouraged with trying to maintain my hair but Jordan quickly changed my mind. She provided me with my take home Rx..and gave me realistic things to do at home to manage my hair! I learned alot about natural hair today. I also purchased my curlly girl handbook which is great!!!! I also had a brief encounter with Jennifer who was also very friendly. I love me some Curltopia!!! My experience with Curltopia was one of a kind. This is a very beautiful and friendly salon. Customer service was great from my stylist to the other young woman that washed my hair. I was offered a drink and she offered to take my coat. They made sure to make me feel very appreciated and special. My stylist informed me what I needed to do to get the look I needed and she even gave me tips on how to maintain my look while my hair grew. They have what is called a hair prescription which is so awesome because people like me are completely lost when it comes to hair care. The items that she suggested I used were great items that I previously heard of and were at an affordable price. The prices are definitely worth the service. The service far exceeds you expectations so the price becomes the last thing you think about. I went in thinking I would feel scared but I walked out very satisfied and confident as a newly natural woman. Thanks a lot Valerie Bullock

I am not new to the natural styles but decided to re-embrace the natural look after a momentary struggle against 'confirming to the corporate appearance’. However, I got off to a slow start trying to find the right product. After asking anyone and everyone that I encounter “what did they do or use in their hair only to be disappointed with their responses…’oh, I just washed and conditioned it!’ Really? Even some of the men I met with curly locks said ‘it's my natural hair’. Again, I am not new to this having come of age in the 70’s where pigtails, afros and cornrows where the style of the day, now everybody has "good" hair! Finally, a friend at the gym told me to check out Curltopia. I was apprehensive and it took about year before I decided to make an appointment, since I really liked my old stylist, we been through so much... However, the stylist at Curltopia - Maxine was fanatics; she really brought my curly pattern to the surface and even more volume. The process was quick and very simple and she explained the process and the product so that you are able to maintain your look and even add your own touch. Wish I had gone sooner! The only down side allot for a little extra time for your hair to dry.

I have been wearing weaves for the past two years and decided it was time to just let it go, but I didn’t want to go to just any hairstylist. I did my research and Curltopia came highly recommended. I could hardly wait until Curltopia opened for business today and at 10:00 AM I promptly called to make my appointment. Much to my surprise I was able to schedule my appointment for today. My appointment was with Jordan who was very educational and forthcoming with information. She was patient and answered all of my questions. Most of all she made me feel at ease about my decision. Every minute of my appointment was spent on my hair. I LOVE my hair and most of all Jordan educated me on how to take care of my hair and prescribed the best products for MY hair. My overall service exceeded my expectations and I made sure my next appointment was booked before I left the salon. Thanks Jordan and Curltopia, Stacey Robinson

I called the salon on the recommendation of a friend and was referred to Maxine. She is a hair artisan and is devoted to her craft! We discussed my hair needs and she walked me through the process and each step was exciting! I LOVE Curltopia! This was my 2nd visit here and once again my hair turned out better than I had hoped for. Giselle used the DevaCurl shampoo and conditioner products on my hair, which I'm absolutely obsessed with now and my double stranded twists have never held this much moisture in any time I can remember. My only drawback was that I didn't know there was a difference in price between a hair trim and a hair cut so I got a surprise when it was time for me to pay. But aside from that, I still love Curltopia and can't wait to go back and get styled by Giselle!! Today was my first visit to Curltopia. I read about it on my phone app "Curls to Go". All the reviews were so positive and most raved about Jordan. When I called for an appointment, she was one of the stylists recommended. The salon is clean, nicely decorated and comfortable. All the staff that I encountered were very nice. Jennifer shampooed my hair and educated me on the process to care for my hair when finger-styling. She gave me a prescription for how to take care of my hair and a list of all the products that were used. She was very knowledgeable, going through each step that she performed on my hair. She and Jordan made a great team. Jordan took the time with me to discuss styling techniques and care. She was also very knowledgeable and personable. She trimmed and styled my hair without being scissor-happy. I left feeling more informed on my hair, and how to take care of it at home. It looked great and I was very pleased when I left, which was not always the case when I would leave a salon. I will definitely be going back to this salon and this stylist. I would highly recommend it.

Jordan was very professional and caring when it came to my concerns regarding trims as I’ve had some not-so-great experiences with scissor-happy stylists. She was very open throughout the entire process and recommended different ways to care for my dry hair. The steam hydration treatment is a must for those with dry hair like myself and is worth the extra bucks. The natural hair prescription is also a plus. I definitely plan to return!

I got a deep condition treatment and a steam hydration followed by a color gloss, haircut, and finally a blowout. By the end of my appointment, Giselle suggested a number of helpful products to maintain good treatment of my hair and saved me from an absolute disaster! Transitioning from relaxed to natural hair can be a very frustrating process, but Curltopia definitely helped me find peace of mind.

Once again, Curltopia to the rescue! Once again, Curltopia to the rescue! I discovered Curltopia a couple of years ago after another "natural" hair salon severely damaged by hair while going through my natural hair transition. Curltopia took me in, nourished and hydrated my hair and got me back on track with healthy, natural hair. Needless to say, I was impressed and my daughter and I rely on Curltopia for our natural hair care needs. My most recent visit, however, absolutely blew my mind! First, it was an emergency appointment. I was scheduled for an interview the next day and my hair was a hot mess! I was in between styles and my color had faded terribly. They got me in for a color, cut and style within a couple of hours of my call. Then, Jordan was the hero in this story. I had never worked with her before and was a bit hesitant about how my hair would turn out for my interview. To my amazement, Jordan knew MY hair. She told ME everything about my hair that I normally have to tell the stylist. I was totally impressed with her knowledge and professionalism. The icing on the cake - my color was perfect, my curls were perfect and I didn't have to be concerned about my "natural curls" during my job interview – I want to represent natural hair styles in Corporate America . . . . I did get the job!!! Thanks Jordan and Curltopia!! TJ

I must have looked skeptic because she immediately said " if you have a minute, let me show you". And, did she ever!! I could not wait to make my appointment. And low and behold, the receptionist said that Jordan had an opening that very day in 30 mins!! I was in the bowl in 5!! She was so patience with me. She explained everything as she went along. She made me feel as if I could do it myself (As if!!). When she finished, my hair was beautiful. I had her take a picture and texted it to all my friends. My phone started to ring off the hook. They were so excited for me!! They know my struggle with my hair. Curltopia was a saving grace for me. Thank you so much. Jordan, YOU ROCK!!!!

Based on the helpful information on their website, I decided to give Curltopia a call. I made an appointment for 9:30am Saturday morning. I sat in the waiting area maybe two minutes <smile>. My hair was examined, washed, and deep conditioned. Every step of the way I was told what products were being used. I paid extra for the hydration treatment which felt heavenly, and added extra moisture to my hair. Next I was led to my stylist, Jordan’s, chair. Jordan helped me decide on the flat twist. It took all of ten minutes for Jordan to twist my hair, and then I was led to the “evil” dryer. The dryer and I are not on the best of terms, and with my thick hair I knew this was not going to be pleasant. It took two whole hours for my hair to dry. It is unreal what we go through to look good. Sorry…back to the review… Jordan untwisted my hair and I absolutely loved it. She instructed me on style upkeep, and wrote a prescription for which products to use. I was able to purchase all products in the salon which saved me from running all over town, or hitting up Amazon.com. The whole Curltopia experience was great! Jordan was knowledgeable, professional, and fun. The décor is very chic with chandeliers, hanging mirrors, and comfortable seating. The atmosphere inside the salon was very positive, and culturally diverse. Needless to say, I will be going back to Curltopia.

I have been natural for almost a year and had never straightened my hair because I was afraid I wouldn't like it since I was so used to bone-straight hair of the relaxer. The customer service was great, I got there about an hour early and signed in but left because I was there too early and the receptionist called me when my stylist was ready, she was looking for me, it was nice to be acknowledged. My initial stylist did educate me about my hair. I went in for a finger style but I had to many straight ends from constant pressing which is why I had to be switched over to Robin for a flat twist instead. After Robin was done flat twisting my hair she explained how to undo the twists and take care of it (they don't generally send a client home with flattwists but since it was so late there was no time to take them out, because I originally came in for a flattwist; Robin was so kind to leave her client with someone else to do my flattwists because she was the only jr stylist in the salon that could do it). She gave me what they call a "prescription" with suggested products and how to and how often to use them. My experience exceeded my expectations, I'm just looking forward to the next time when I can sit with one person from start to finish.

The atmosphere at curltopia was very diverse. I saw a mixture of nationalities in the stylist and clients. I was greeted with a smile as I entered the store, and was seen been by my styliest swiftly. Maxine not only educated me on which products would work best for my hair, but she also explainned/demonstrated everything while working in my hair. She also let me face the mirror the entire time. Curltopia exceed my expectations and i will revisit the shop again soon. Crystal Cunningham

I had been hearing about Curltopia & finally acted upon referral - no regrets whatsoever. I was on-board after 1st consultation w/ stylist Maxine. My natural finger curls were popping & I was extremely satisfied-got many compliments. Upon service, Maxine provided instructions & list of products for maintenance. Definitely the 'best in class' on service, professionalism & hair care. The steam hydration treatment is a 'must'. Awesome experience - can't wait to go back!

I enjoyed every moment of my visit. Brittany was very knowledgeable about my hair and products that would work best with my hair type. She did an awesome job with my color. She was a true delight to work with. I have already recommended her to my mother. I had a 12:30 appt on a Saturday afternoon. To my surprise, there was somewhere to sit and I wasn't worked in with several other clients. The staff was very friendly. I even noticed how one stylist excused herself with her client to assist another stylist that was challenged with a 3 yr old whose hair was so tangled that she screamed at the sight of them reaching for her hair. I can't wait for my next visit! The overall ambience was cozy.

I visited Curltopia on 10/22/11.. I was attempting to make a last minute appointment but there weren't any avaliable.. I was asked if I wanted to be a hair model for a stylist that has been there for a few months..I took them up on the offer . I am not that experienced with how my hair should look since i don't usually pay to have it syled so i wasn't sure initially if the outcome was considered good or bad since i had no comparison.... At first I thought she did an o.k. job but nothing i couldn't do my self but this is day 7 and i have managed to twist at night with Ms. Jessies baby butter cream (my choice) and wear with many compliments. That doesn't happen of course if I do it. Overall i would say she met my expectation as a hair model. I thoguth the staff and salon was pleasant. The stylist was very knowledgeable. She offered good advice for my hair type.

I had my first experience at Curltopia on October 18, 2011....needless to say, I was so impressed with the service, I started calling people and bragging on the salon and my stylist before my hair was even finished! I am at my 1yr transition period and thought I would try a new experience as a birthday present to myself. I have been in Georgia also for 1yr and I am so excited to finally have found a salon on my side of town that is unlike any other I have every experienced. Maxine was very professional, knowledgeable, gentle with my hair and gave great instructions on how to care for my hair. I will be going back...hopefully, next week if Maxine has an opening! Pamela

Let me start by saying I'm a white gal, but have been asked more times than I can count if I am biracial because of my ultra curly hair. I felt like a freak for a very long time, but I can honestly say that my attitude towards my curls has drastically changed since my visit to "Curltopia". I came in HATING my frizzy, bushy, nappy mess of a mane & left LOVING my curls-- I have never known how to care for my hair & had resorted to chemically straightening & flat ironing it to death. It was so damaged, I decided the best thing to do was to walk away from all chemicals, cold turkey & just let it grow out. The result was I had natural frizzy curls that lacked definition down to my chin & a good 5 inches of straighened, damaged hair on the ends. The 2 textures looked nightmarish, but Robin was able to work miracles! She did a Deva Cut to remove the processed hair & was able to tame my crazy tight curls & give me amazing definition. For the first time EVER I have NO FRIZZ! Never again will I be ashamed of my hair & I have Robin to thank for giving me a great hair cut, introducing me to products that actually work, & for giving me the confidence I need to *rock* my curls proudly!!!

I love Curltopia. I've been going there for two years now. Giselle is amazing. She has a pleasant attitude and doesn't make her clients wait forever. The only thing I wish they'd change was incorporating more products that don't have silicones and educating their clients about the dangers of sulfates and such things. But I will definitely continue to return to have my hair trimmed in its coily state every few months. Many of the styles I can do on my own because I have learned how to take care of my hair, and they've taught me how! One reason I give them 4 shears is because the prices really are TOO HIGH. I think if they'd incorporate specials like some other salons do on a consistent basis, they'd have even more clientele. But overall a great experience!

Today 10/22/11 was my first experience at Curltopia. The salon was very clean, neat and welcoming. Everyone was nice. The receptionist greeted me and my stylist was on time (Stacy). I was able to have a well-informative session with my stylist (Stacy)- although I have been natural now going on three years- my knowledge base is still growing. I was glad that she was able to provide me with more knowledge regarding my hair as well how to maintain it. I like that I was given a Rx sheet w/suggestive products and maintenance tips. Thanks ;) reddgrl77

My experience at Curltopia was very pleasant. The salon was neat, clean and nicely decorated. Surprisingly, it was not overly packed for a Saturday appointment. After having my shampoo, I did have to wait 30 minutes on the stylist to finish with another client; however, I've come to terms that that is the norm in this industry. I had my hair trimmed and styled. The stylist did an excellent job styling my hair. She really knew how to handle curly hair and was able to style it exactly as I described. In the past I've visited other stylists who've claimed to be knowledgeable about curly hair, but then immediately COMBED out all of my curls. The only negative I found was that some of their products contain silicones and the stylist seemed to be unaware, but I will definitely return to this salon.

Today was my first visit to Curltopia, and I must say I was very impressed. In the past whaen I've gotten my hair done at other salons, my back was always to the mirror, like it was a secret as to what they were doing and using on your hair. Not at Curltopia. I faced the mirror the entire time so that I could see how my curls took shape. Jordan explained everything she did and even told me how I could achieve the same look doing it myself at home. She gave me a list of products to use complete with how often to use it. Thanks Jordan for doing an awesome job!!!

I took my five-year old daughter for her very first hair salon experience to Curltopia two weeks ago. She is biracial with tightly curled/kinky hair, or fractal or zigzag curls according to “The Curly Girl Handbook” by Lorraine Massey (a must read for ANYONE with naturally curly hair). I can say Curltopia met my standards for a hair salon. The salon is contemporary and comfortable. The lady at the reception desk and she handled it very professionally and we were with someone soon after to get the hair washed. They explained the reason for the delay and compensated us fairly for the wait. Maxine was finally available to do my daughter’s hair with a wash, deep conditioning, steam hydration, and cut. She was able to explain how to use the correct products for my daughter’s hair. We made our follow-up appointment to be in 3 months. The hair service met my expectations. Having said that I am following her advice on what products to use with the hopes that her hair will grow and be hydrated and shiny as she said it will be. Until next visit…

My second appointment at Curltopia was confirmation that the salon is top notch! This time my appointment was with Jay. She really did an awesome job on my flat twist. I'm a natural hair newbie, so Jay was kind enough to teach me some things about maintaining my new style. She is very funny and was able to share great tips. Again, the wait was minimal - especially since I showed up early :-). And the salon is very professional. The mango tea offered to me was fantastic- now i'm searching for that flavor. I did have to get the flat twist because they were busy and didn't have enough flex rods. But it was a good alternative! Going back for my third appointment tomorrow - looking forward to working with Jordan. I don't think you can go wrong with any of the stylist! Everyone always looks nice when they leave - including ME!! Thanks Curltopia.

The ladies wanted to make sure I was comfortable. My appt. was at 9:30am I arrived 30 mins early. I had to wait about 15 mins. before getting my hair washed, because Stacy my stylist was with another client. One of the other ladies washed my hair. When Stacy finished up with her, she came over and gave me a consultation. She suggested to cut the straight pieces of hair off. She was very educated on the products that she used on my hair. Stacy took the time to explain everything she was doing. Stacy was concerned and listened to my questions and answered them vey well. All the ladies in Curltopia know what they are doing. I love going to Curltopia because I fall in love with my hair all over again. Jay listens to your hair and its needs. I grew up on dominican blow outs and never really appreciated my curls until my first devacut by Jay. My curls looked amazing, healthy and shiny and I haven't straighten my hair since. She shampoos, conditions, deep conditions and massages the scalp like no other. She uses mixed chicks, devacurl and any other products she feels will help your hair. I've had three different haircuts with jay and when I walk out those doors all I get are compliments. So trust, you will not be disappointed. BTW, call ahead of time and make an appointment because they are always busy which is a good thing. Thank you Jay!!!

Maxine is an outstanding stylist! First, she trimmed my natural hair without straightening it, Then she finger-styled my hair, to where it looked as if it had been rod set. My husband’s new pastime is pulling my curls and watching them bounce back. On the street, at work and while shopping, strangers have repeatedly told me, “I love your hair!” I have paid twice as much for less. If you want a stylist who will (1) listen patiently to your concerns and/or ideas, (2) work wonders on your hair, and (3) instruct you on how to care for your hair; then do not delay. Go to Curltopia and ask for MAXINE!

I visted Curltopia on 9/30. It was probably the most relaxing hair salon environment I've ever been to especially on a Friday night. Just want to publicly thank Jordan for bringing my hair back to life. After being in braids for almost 3 months she deligently took her time and detangled my hair which was a mess. I had a wonderful steam hydration, received an AWESOME hair cut, and my hair has been blowing in the wind after a thermal silkening. We even discussed other styling options for future visits. Thanks ot Jordan, I've received tons of complements since then and the bonus I think my husband will allow me to put Curltopia in the budget. Yay Jordan, you did it!

Her calm, cool, collected, & knowledgeable approach allowed me to relax & let her cut my damaged ends off into a fab style; something I've never allowed on a 1st visit to a new salon. Okay, so I did the "big chop" yesterday @ Curltopia. Am I happy with the service, the stylist and the education received there? Yes! I am still waiting for my hair to grow on me though (literally). I discovered that my hair grade (type), took well to Miss Jessie's curly pudding. (This stuff is like a great modern day curl activator). At Curltopia they educate you about what products to use to maintain your style, and what works best on your hair. I know you think you can get it all from You tube, but I recommend you let the professionals guide you through this journey. My first visit there a few weeks ago, I thought my hair was natural and ready to be styled as such. I hadn't had a relaxer in about 2 years. I walked in yesterday in the impatient mood and requested the "big chop". So here I am today with a bit of a frizzy fro playing with products prescribed by my stylist. I am excited of what the end result will be on this new journey and I have no regrets. I am grateful to Stacey and Curltopia for taking such good care of me! BTW, If you can't get in there to see Stacey, no worries because I didn't see a stylist in there who didn't do a good job. Black hair, white hair, not a disappointed customer in sight!

I had my AWESOME experience with Curltopia about 2 weeks ago. I must say I was absolutely nervous because I had never been to a "natural" hair salon before and I had no idea what to expect. My stylist was Giselle and from the moment I sat in her chair, I immediately felt as though I was in good hands. My hair was a HOT MESS and she made me feel so comfortable that my "mess" was manageable. She began to explain to me step by step the importance of hydration, techniques I could use at home and started suggesting products. After her comforting me about my decision to get the BIG CHOP, I decided I wanted some color to help me cope. She is a genius at color. I have been to stylists who never get it right and she got it right the first time! I was completely amazed. After she finished coloring, cutting, hydrating and styling my hair I was amazed at how much of a curl my hair had to it! She found my curl. She gave me a detailed list of products to use and they have been wonderful for my hair. My hair looks amazing even though the chop had to grow on me. However, I get the most compliments on my hair that I have ever had. People absolutely love it!!!!! I tell them if only you knew what kinky mess I had before! The shop was nice, atmosphere was serene, and I was offered beverages several times. My wait was not long and I felt as though Giselle took the time to hold my hand as a first time client. I would highly suggest Curltopia. I was sooo nervous but I am convinced I made the right decision. I even made my mom go and she loved it! To those concerned about the prices, it is pricey but you REALLY get what you pay for! It is worth it! My next appt is tomorrow and I am so excited!!!

I will go ahead and give you the bottom line up front, I love the salon, and I love my new stylist Maxine. I got a consult, deep condition and trim. I waited a few days to post my review so that I could also comment on the recommended products when I used them myself at home... Because I am all too familiar with something being used in my hair in the salon and being awesome and at home being a disaster... First of all, I decided to try out Curltopia based on reviews on here as well as a fellow curly... I give them 5 stars for 5 reasons, the 1st star is given because they fitted me in on a whim, I got off work a little earlier than usual and gave them a call and drove right over! Love it! The 2nd star is for Maxine, who instantly assessed my hair and told me what was wrong with the products I was using and why I did not like the results I was getting. She also answered every question I had with facts to explain why certain things worked and others didn't... She taught me a ton about my hair, and not only educated me, but also taught me to embrace my kinks. Another thing I loved about her was she wasn't a stylist who turned every question into a 'why you should come see me weekly' response, she gave me valuable home use tips that worked with the products I took home! The 3rd star is because the products they use in your hair are available for purchase, and Maxine took time to explain each product she was using and why. And when a leave in didn't react well with a moisturizer, she explained why it didn't react well together, and what products look like in my hair when they don't react well together (and all this time I thought it just needed time to 'soak in'). The 4th star is for the environment, it is very cute, very hip, laid back salon with free wifi! My 5th star goes to the amazing receptionist who was all too accommodating and the opposite of pushy, I love the fact that no one pressured me to buy anything on the list of recommended products! (Even tho I am a self proclaimed PJ, and I did buy all of the products and loved them all as well) Needless to say, my next appt was set up before I left!

I decided to try Curltopia based on the reviews I read online. And I must say I am very satisfied with my visit. I got a DevaCut, color, and deep conditioning for a very reasonable price (I've definitely paid more elsewhere for a cut and color). The stylist used DevaCurl and Miss Jessie's products on my hair. The decor and music was feminine and fun. I also loved the fact that my stylist only had one other person booked during my services so I was not kept waiting long at any stage of the process. The stylist was really friendly and talked to me about the products she was using on my hair. Overall, I really liked the end result and this was the best natural hair salon expereince I have had to date. I am excited to try the new products at home. I will probably make a return visit in a month or so for highlights. (BTW, my hair texture is 3c/4a combo).

I had my first Curltopia experience on 8/17/2011, and I am more than happy with the service I received. I relocated to Georgia from Virginia at the beginning of August, and my first order of business was to find a hair salon to care for my natural hair. I found Curltopia's information on the Miss Jessie's website. Scheduling my first appointment was very easy: I called approximately one week before the day I wanted to get my hair done and I was able to get an appointment on the date I wanted. When I arrived at the salon, there was practically no wait time before my stylist Giselle greeted me and began working on my hair. Giselle talked me through everything that she did to my hair: giving me recommendations on the treatments my hair needed, styling tips, and product recommendations. She showed me exactly how to care for my hair in-between appointments, from how to style my hair to how much product to use on my hair. I can't wait for my next appointment...and I HIGHLY recommend this salon (and Giselle) to anyone who is searching for a hair care specialist!

With hopes of liberating myself of day-to-day hair maintenance challenges, I embarked on the "natural hair journey" about 2 1/2 yrs ago. What I found was that, while I loved the new found healthiness of my crop, it became increasingly more and more difficult to manage and maintain. I visited Curltopia with hopes of finding a stylists who made me feel comfortable, was knowledgeable about natural haircare & what I specifically needed to do to maintain my hair type, as well as someone who could make recommendations on how to do self-styling. Luckily, I found ALL of this in Brittany. She was very pleasant and gave me great advise on how to treat my hair. I wanted a new look, so I decided on honey blond highlights, and have gotten rave reviews about her work! The salon was very nice and clean and everyone seemed very professional. I would definitely recommend the salon and Brittany for your next natural hair salon experience :)

I'm not big on blogging...but I'm writing this review because I want to save people the anxiety I went through trying to figure out where to go to learn about my hair. First off..I did the big chop at another salon and my hair wasn't cut in a style...but cut because my original destination was locs. I came to this salon from a friends recommendation and I was very pleased with my visit. From start to finish, I was pleased with everything. Stacey cut my hair in a really cute style and explained what she was doing to my hair in order to teach me how to do it when I got home. I was so afraid my hair was going to be thick and unmanageable...but it wasn't. Stacey told me about my curl pattern and the products she was using and why. At the end of my visit..at checkout...I received a personalized hair maintenance sheet so I could remember everything we went over. Overall, I am very pleased with this salon and my stylists. I made a follow-up appointment!

Brittany..Brittany!!! WOW is all I can say...In the past I have really abused my hair. I applied relaxers to "straighten" the natural curl pattern, I put permanent colors in my hair ranging from slightly blonde to high lift blonde, I have even turned my hair orange by leaving a very high lift blonde on to long. I did the big chop about 5 years ago and recently decided to grow my hair out. To my dismay I thought it would be easy to grow my hair out after all in the past it would grow very fast. New Flash-LOL.. this has been a difficult transition (sad face). So I decided to seek a professional stylist to help me deal with my curly woes. Brittany gave me a deva cut and I tell you I am in heaven. My curls are so much more defined and healthy and my hair started growing by leaps and bounds. I am thrilled!!! I just made an appointment with Brittany for my every 8 week trim. Brittany is so professional and has excellent customer service. As soon as I got to the salon I was called to Brittany's chair. The environment is so comfortable and pleasant..it seems like all the stylist really enjoy what they do. Thank You Brittany..You got a customer for life.. Most Sincerely Cheryl Grier

I just moved to the Atlanta area and I've had so much anxiety about where to get my hair done. Women know the sometimes finding the right salon and stylist can be just as hard as finding a job! Well, I decided to start my search with Google. Immediately Curltopia popped up and I read some of the reviews and looked at the website. It seemed very similar to Miss Jessie's in NYC. Also, I was happy that they used all of the products I have used on my curly hair. I called and made an appt but then called back again to see if I could be fit in with Brittany on same day. Luckily she had just had a cancellation so I was ecstatic to see if the salon could measure up to all of the online "hype" it was getting. Being a biracial female that has always struggled with curly hair, I KNEW Brittany was going to have to be good to manage this. I walked in and was greeted, filled out short form and sat to wait for Brittany. She greeted me in no time. Immediately she was asking questions about my hair and any issues. Some questions she already knew the answers. She was knowledgeable and very friendly. She explained what she was doing and why. I was placed under the dreaded hairdryer, but Brittany repeatedly came over to check on me and make sure I was melting! Lol. She showed me how to manage my frizz and my hair in this new weather. The best thing of all...I mentioned that I wanted a certain style and color just in conversation, Brittany looked up the photo online and looked for the color options while I was under the dryer! She already had things together for my next appt. Awesome! My hair turned out great, looks healthy and moisturized, and I'm happy to have found a great salon. Returning next week for my color!!!

I had the pleasure of visiting this sophisticated salon on 7/20 and it was amazing. I was promptly greeted and offered a beverage. The staff was very professional and friendly. Jordan is my stylist and she took her time to educated me on everything that she did to my hair. She also provided me with a list of personalized hair care products along with directions on how to maintain my healthy hair. Curltopia exceeded my expectations and even though I spent more that I had planned, the ambience, professionalism, and education I received was well worth every penny. Needless to say my next appointment is 8/3. Thanks Curltopia.

A Friend referred me to Curltopia so I made an appointment with the intention of doing the BC. I was super nervous. I was greeted with a smile when I walked in the door. I was checked in and told to have a seat while I waited for my appointment to start. I was offered a beverage and had barely sat down before her assistant walked me to the back. I was unsure about my decision but she assured me that it would be just fine. I was overwhelmed with emotion but she remained professional. I left there with all of the tools needed to take care of my new curls. I have gotten so many compliments that totally overshadowed my doubt in the beginning. Jay was great. If you are considering doing the BC or transitioning, Curltopia is the salon and Jay should be your stylist.

After making the decision to go “au natural”, it was very important to find the RIGHT salon. That salon would have to be one that housed stylists that were very well versed in the care and treatment of black hair. That would also be a salon that maintained a professional, yet inviting environment and one in which I would feel comfortable in. After completing an extensive web search and stopping countless curly haired sisters on the streets of Metro Atlanta to inquire about their styles and stylist, the name Curltopia was heard over and over again. I eventually revisited Curltopia.com and reread the bios of each of the stylist and decided to make an appointment with the Giselle. Upon my arrival at the salon I was greeted the moment I stepped into the door and my experience and relationship with Curltopia began. As a person that has patronized countless salons over the last 20+ years, I was immediately impressed. I am writing this review after my 4th visit to Curltopia. Although I was impressed with both the salon and Giselle after my 1st visit I wanted to be assured that I wasn’t receiving the ever popular “new client, red carpet treatment” before recommending it to others. Each visit has been great!!!!!!! Giselle far exceeded my expectations. Not only is she knowledgeable and talented, she is also a great source of information. She has a wonderful personality in additional to being both professional and friendly. She makes every effort to ensure that you can maintain your locks and your look after leaving her chair. That advice is priceless. I have recommended Curltopia and Giselle to other curly haired sisters and will continued to do so. Give them a call and experience Curltopia for yourself.

I visted Curltopia this summer and was greeted with a smile and drink. Jay did a wonderful job with my hair. She was very informative explaining what she was doing and why. Before leaving Jay wrote out a maintenance outline: Providing me with proper cleanser, conditioner, deep conditioning treatment, styling aid, and moisturizer. Curltopia is great, but Jay is excellent!!!

I got my hair done at curltopia about a week ago. I had a great experience! When i first walked in i noticed how clean it was. I was checked in by a really nice lady and offered water. I recived one of the best hair cuts ever. I had a deva curly cut done and it turned out awesome. I also like how you get a complimentary deep conditioning as well as a "how to" style your own hair and products that will work well with your specific hair type. Britt suggested products for me but never PUSHED them on me. Drove 4 hours to come to curltopia and will definately be making that drive again. Thanks Britt! :)

off top, I entered a beautifully decorated salon with a great atmosphere. I checked in at the counter and settled in for the wait that always occurs at hair salons...except there was no wait. I was seated immediately in Giselle's chair and we uncovered my massive hair and made small talk about what I wanted from my visit. I was then whisked away to the shampoo bowl for a thorough wash, deep condition and detangling. Again I sat in Giselle's hair and she explained EVERY step of the process of finger styling my hair. She was teaching and styling all at the same time. At the end I received a list of products to purchase to achieve the same look at home, along with instructions on use! it was a little pricey...but you get what you pay for ;-)

I took my daughter to Curltopia to get her hair done. I was immediately impressed because we had an appointment and didn’t have to sit and wait. It is a HUGE deterrent for me when stylists aren’t considerate of their customers’ time. Two thumbs up for that! My daughter has a head full of curly kinky hair. She only wanted it straight, and I was in a struggle with her to wear it in her natural state. Brittany was wonderful! She was patient. She explained how to take care of her hair to me; she explained what products to use, and when to use them. She took special pains to explain to my daughter how she should take care of her hair and the consequences if she didn't. I have had repeated disappointments with other salons and stylists. I was prepared to settle for tips for my daughter to take care of her hair and keep it healthy. I didn't expect for my daughter’s hair to look as great as it did. We left with her hair looking terrific! Brittany also gave us tips for other styles. The other stylists were friendly and helpful. They didn’t ignore us just because they weren’t the stylists doing my daughter’s hair. We live an hour away, but not only will we be back; we will recommend Curltopia to other people!

WOW!! This salon and my experience well exceeded my expectations by leaps and bounds!!!! Everyone that I encountered was very nice and friendly. It can be very intimidating going to a new salon! I was nervous and excited about going from permed hair to natural hair. I have had permed hair for over half of my life!! I never thought that I would EVER let my perm grow out! I am so glad that I have changed my mind, and decided to try something different. I absolutely LOVE it !!! I wish I had done it years ago!! Jay was great, she was very knowledgeable, friendly and patient with me. I really enjoyed my experience and I will be back!! I also felt very comfortable and welcomed by her assistant Jennifer who was also very sweet and friendly. I have received many, many compliments on my new hair style. My biggest fan is my husband! Thank you, Jay and Jennifer. I look forward to seeing you again !

This was my first experience with Curltopia in Smyrna. When I arrived, I was pleasantly surprised by the ambiance -- quite chic! My next worry was how long was I going to sit before my appointment time. I was again surprised that there was a minimal wait time. That was enough to make me want to return. Everyone was friendly and most of all, professional. Now on to my hair..... I must say first of all, I am pleased with my hair cut and style, particularly since I have very curly/kinky hair. Giselle did an excellent job and she is very knowledgeable about hair care and maintenance. Hence, I most certainly will be a repeat customer. BUT!!!!! Be warned, if you are one who thinks that beautiful natural hair should be at a low price, you may want to stick with what you are doing now... if that works for you. It's not cheap. But what price would you place on being pleased with your hair and the products you use to maintain your new doo.... While I think my price was a bit high, I'm happy and if I have to roll pennies to "get my hair did", then so be it! I'll probably cut out eating out as well.... juggle a few things :-)

I went to Curltopia for my big chop. After 25 years of having medium to long relaxed hair, I was EXTREMELY nervous about the whole thing. Trish, the owner, immediately put me at ease. From the moment that I stepped in, everyone was extremely welcoming. I was offered water and given time to relax and comfortable before anything was done. The yound lady, Jennifer, that washed my hair was also a licensed barber and she did a great job getting it all even. Jay, the stylist, was patient and answered all of my questions. She assured me that it would go well. Overall, the experience was a good one. The two things that prevent me from giving my experience a 5 was that Jay never talked with me about my hair type (so I am guessing that I am a Kinky Hair girl) and my hair was not curly when I left the salon. The next day, when I washed it with the product recommended by Jay, it looked great. I was going to a marriage vow renewal ceremony with my husband and I got TONS of compliments on how great it looked. Overall, I enjoyed it and I will definitely be going back.

Curltopia is awesome! The salon is beautiful and the décor is chic and comfortable. I decided to go natural months ago, but was not quite ready for the BC (Big Chop). For some reason I was hesitant to let go of my hair and make such a drastic move, but I knew it was necessary to speed up the process of my natural hair journey. However, when I sat in Giselle’s chair, I felt a confidence that I’d never felt before. Giselle was awesome and I really liked the way she broke down each process and explained in detail what I was about to experience with my new natural experience. In just that short period of time, I was educated tremendously about my new journey in being au natural. Ms. Honey and the rest of the staff at Curltopia were great also and they were genuinely concerned with my needs and comfort. They consistently asked if I needed anything. I was very appreciative of the water because sitting under the dryer became hot : ) Giselle did a great job and I was very pleased with how my cut, coil out , and color turned out. She also gave me helpful hints on how to care for my new look at home and gave me a list of personalized products to use and suggestions for my hair care now and for in the near future. I have received many compliments since my visit. Curltopia gets an A+ from me and I will be going back for my continuous hair care.

I recently visited Curltopia and my stylist was Jay. She was a miracle worker! I am the only person in my family that has curly hair, so needless to say I was kinda on my own when it came to managing my thick curly hair. I heard about the 'Deva Cut' at Curltopia in the AJC and decided to give it a try. Jay cut my hair dry, curl by curl, and from every angle you could imagine, and it turned out amazing! She really took the time to make sure she got it just right, she even explained the technique when it came to styling it. I learned so much about my curly hair that no other salon had bothered sharing. It was a very professional environment and they cater to your needs. I was asked a couple times if i needed anything to drink. The cut is a little pricey, especially if you have to buy the products also, but in my opinion it was worth it. This was the first time I have left a salon completely satisfied with my hair. If you have curly hair I would definitely recommend this place for you! Thanks a ton Jay!

I really enjoyed my expierence at Curltopia! Giselle was very knowlegable about my hair and really listened to my concerns and goals. I went in for a trim and that is exactly what I got (for a change). Giselle showed me exactly how much she was going to trim off and asked if that would be okay, I was shocked. I have never had a stylist ask if that was okay, they usually just cut and talk, next thing you know you have 2 inches gone! I also liked the way she styled my hair, I got alot of compliments on my curls!

Giselle was both very professional and experienced in explaining the "natural hair" concept during my visit. Since this was my inital visit to a texture/natural specialist, I was a little concern about how depth and to what perception the stylist would be able to elaborate on the natural hair experience. Giselle was awesome! She explained the entire process with such excitement. I would recommend this salon to anyone wanting to have both a delightful and diverse experience. The entire staff was friendly! Yvette

Living the NATURAL life and so happy! Over the last three months, I have been in the process of transition from my shoulder-length straight/relaxed hair style to my new natural low-cut and finally made my dream a reality on Friday, June 10! I made the decision to cut off my hair in March 2011. In April 2011, I went to my normal hair salon I had been going to for over 8 years and I was told I needed to wait 6 months before cutting off my hair. I left not happy and not waiting 6 months. That day, I decided not to put any more heat in my hair and get ready for my new look. After two months, I said, I am ready and did not want to wait any longer, so I scheduled an appointment for the BIG CHOP at my old salon. About three days prior to my appointment, I went online to do some additional research and discovered www.curltopia.com and was mesmerized by their site and what I saw about their salon. The next day, I canceled my appointment with my old salon and scheduled one with Curltopia. The stylist that was available during my ideal time was Giselle. When I arrived to Curltopia, I walked into a vibrant yet relaxed environment. After completing my new client information card, I was approached by the shampoo technician Mellissa who was very pleasant and excited for me to be doing the Big Chop today. After my first wash, Giselle came over and introduced herself to me and told me what to expect over the next hour or so. After meeting Giselle and seeing her style and hearing her comforting voice, I was relaxed and ready for the next phase in my life as a Natural Beauty! After my cut and hydration, while finger styling my hair, Giselle walked me through my hair type, what I needed to do to maintain my look at home and wrote out my hair plan so I would be knowledgeable about my own hair and how to maintain it. Although I was walking with confidence prior to going to Curltopia, I have a new bounce in my step and part of that is due to Giselle’s outstanding work and the support I received during my visit to Curltopia.

My experience at Curltopia was wonderful. I had been thinking about going natural for some time so I finally decided to go in for the big chop. When I walked into the salon I was greeted by the receptionist who was very friendly. After signing in I was offered something to drink and before I knew it Jay was ready for me. Before she did anything to my hair she explained all that she was doing to. One thing that I really liked what she did was that when she was cutting and styling my hair she turned me towards the mirror so I was able to see what she was doing. Jay also gave me a paper that listed all the products that I needed and how to use them. She was very kind and patient and answered all the question that I had. She even took the time out to return my call when I had some more questions about my hair a few days after I left the salon. The salon environment and decor is very relaxing and professional. I really like the salon and I will be returning.

I am complemented every day by so many folks. I am very comfortable at this salon. Always made to feel comfortable. And my stylist Stacy takes time to explain whether I am doing a good job of my at home mainteance. If you are looking for a natural hair salon. Take the time to call them up. Set up your consultation. I am sure you will be taken care of.

I unfortunately do not have a good review of my visit to Curltopia. The stylist I chose turned out to be unprofessional and not a woman of her word or her work. I will not mention the name of this stylist because I would like to give the salon another try despite todays visit. I must also add that as I'm typing this note I noticed that someone has posted a bad review of this very person and the service I was going to get was a color. I guess this is exactly how it was suppose to end - that stylist not doing my color or shape. Whew!! Thanks God for the intervention. M. Muhammad

Upon entering the salon I was greeted by the receptionist and asked if I would like something to drink while I waited for my stylist. Everyone seem so upbeat in the salon, the music that was playing I thought was great. I ended up getting my hair two strand twisted but I left with it twisted because I have a lot of thick hair and sitting under the dryer is not my thing. Giselle did twist it in a style that allow me to wear it twisted a couple of days then untwist. All in all my expericence was great. Will be going back.

Curltopia looks modern/pretty and the employees are generally nice and appear do curls and twist good, BUT DONT LET THEM DO ANYTHING THAT REQUIRES SKILLS With CHEMICALS CAUSE THEY WILL JACK UR HAIR UP!!! I went there 2 get my roots highlighted to blend in with my existing golden-toned, block highlights. (master stylist - WHAT A FREAKIN JOKE)Giselle gave me the worst ash-blond, bad Beyonce wig looking almost-full head die job! It was nothing like I asked 4 or came In with. Worst of all her and owner, Trisha, acted like she did nothing wrong! I had to go get my hair low-lighted and then high-lighted again to fix the mess Giselle made. Originally, they seemed willing to compensate me for THEIR MISTAKE (I even offered to take products to heal my hair from all the chemicals), but in the end UNCOORPERATIVE TRISHA refused, so they will see me in court very soon and Im lodging a complaint against Giselle's license! Once again dont let them do anything that you cant do or fix yourself, cause you will end up very unhappy and with damaged hair!

Upon walking into Curltopia I was very impressed. The ambiance was breath taking and the facility was very clean. I was greeted when I entered and my stylist Aliah was called to alert her that her appointment had arrived. Aliah can to one of the couches where I was sitting, greeted herself, and took me to her work station. I was there to do the "big chop" and finger style. Aliah looked through my hair to see what she was working with and explained my hair texture. She then took me over for a wash, condition, cut, and hydration. My oh my...that hydration was the bomb diggity bomb.com. I so enjoyed the steam penetrating my scalp. My hair felt new with the cut and hydration. After that was done we went back to Aliah's station and she started to expalin each product that she was using on my hair and what its purpose was on my hair. There was a mixture of products named on my hair but when I was all done I was very happy about the result. Since I have not done uych research on natural hair but knew that this was something I wanted to do. Aliah wrote down each product that was used and how often to use for me being a virgin to natural style. I was so afraid by the reviews that I would get from my hair. But when i tell you everyone I know loved it. I posted on my facebook that I DID NOT LIKE IT...I LOVED IT. My hair was so curly. Never knew that covered under all the perm I had naturally curly locs. Needless to say but I have told everyone about Curltopia and my experience with Aliah. I even called the very same day to make and appointment for my mother-in-law. Curltopia was my first curly hair salon experience. It was amazing! As soon as I entered, I was greeted by the receptionist. And Jay was ready for me. She was patient and thorough. She answered ALL of my numerous questions with patience. Despite the fact that I said that I wouldn't be able to fix any of the styles she suggested, she still took the time to take me through the steps to ensure that I could style my hair at home and ensure pretty, moisturized curls the next day. I was so pleased with my hair style that I made a two week appointment before I left. The atmosphere was great! I loved the fact that I was turned toward the mirror. This way I could see what she did to my hair. In traditional salons, clients are turned away from the mirror. Stylists at Curltopia seek to ensure that clients are given the tips to make them capable of styling their own hair. The mirrors were huge, the chandeliers were beautiful and the shampoo bowls were a great height. My back didn't get wet!! This was the first time that ever happened. And before I left, I was given a list of products to use for hair maintenance, washing, conditioning and deep conditioning my hair. Jay was great!! I will definitely be returning.

I read about this salon and the deva cut for curly hair in the newspaper. It was easy to get an appointment and Robin talked me through the shape and benefits of the cut before she did anything. Do your research on the deva cut before going there because it's different that most cuts—it is cut dry and follows the shape of the curls. Robin is so nice and easy to talk to. She gave me a "class" on curly hair and how to keep it from getting so frizzy. She wrote down instructions and suggested products that will work with it. So far, it's been a week since my cut and it is really easy to care for. It looks very natural and it is very quick in the mornings. The salon is nice, clean and I recommend talking to Robin about your curly hair. Cutting curly hair is he passion.

I went to Curltopia on 5/6/11. I loved how when I walked in the door I was greeted and promptly served.Sara was the receptionist there. My hair stylist (Aliah) was ready to to see my hair. I wasn't offered a beverage, but I believe it was because my stylist was ready for me. I loooove the atmophere and the big mirrors so you can see exactly what the stylist is doing to your hair. I had a lot of damamge to my hair especially in the back of my hair. She really didn't have any answers for me. But, she did suggest that I go to see a Dr. about my hair, as well as take some hair, skin and nail vitiamns to promote growth. I already use Miss Jessie's products so that was not a big shock to me that she used that on my hair. But, I did learn about the products that you have to mix products together so that it will work in my hair. That was information that I did not know. I watched how another stylist worked in the prodcuts on a customer that was getting a finger style and that helped a lot. I was kind of upset at the end of my visit when I went to pay and my total was a lot higher then I had anticipated because I got my split ends cut. I didn't know that this was $45! When my hair stylist suggested to that vs. the hydration treatment I thought it was at most $20. That is the only negative comment I have. Overall,my experience was Great! My stylish was great, the music was awesome!! I was told what to use on my hair, but not really how to use it. Maybe bc I have them already? Great service though! Thanks, KEL

On Sunday May 1, 2011, I attended the Natural Hair Fair in Atlanta, GA where I met some of the staff who works at Curltopia. I was transitioning to natural hair and didn’t know what styles that would work for me in addition to having relaxed mixed with the natural. I came upon Curltopia’s mini salon that was setup in the middle of the floor. Some of the staff were actually doing sample styles and what I saw interest me. Of course, I joined others who were in line and had a portion of my hair curled with Miss Jessie’s products that I fell in love with. On May 5, 2011 I was in the Salon being fully serviced, I decided to cut all of my relaxed hair off. I was excited and comfortable with doing so after sharing that moment with Giselle at the Natural Hair Fair. I booked my appt on May 3, 2011 and Giselle had the opening at the time that I needed and I knew then that I'd made the right choice. Giselle was the same stylist that I worked with at the Natural Hair Fair that past Sunday! When I arrived at Curltopia for the first time, I felt very welcomed. The receptionist greeted me as soon as I stepped one foot in the door. I was signed in as soon as I arrived and directed to where I would be serviced. I was also offered coffee, water, or tea. The staff made the drink and served it to me as if I were at a spa. My stylist was very informative and made sure I understood each step that she recommended and the reason behind it. My hair was super soft, hydrated, shiny, and full of curls which was the total opposite of how I entered the salon. She also provided a copy as a recap of the process that she performed on my hair and the recommendations. I will definitely go back to Curltopia Salon and recommend individuals as well. THANKS CURLTOPIA!

Scheduling my appointment was very easy through a phone call. I seen a few minutes after I entered the salon. There was no down time, where I had to wait for the stylist to finish up another client. My stylist, Giselle, was very friendly, gave me advice on my hair, and answered all the questions I had. I was impressed that the stylists give you so much information to help you style your hair at home. Every other salon I've ever went to is so secretive and makes sure all the product bottles are turned backward so you can't read them ;)-- literally. The price was more than I've ever paid to get my hair done but it was well worth it. I have already scheduled my appointment for today.

CURLTOPIA EXCEEDED MY EXPECTATIONS! My stylist STACY was a blessing. She washed, trimmed, and finger styled my newly natural hair. The entire time she made sure to talk to me about my hair and educate me on how to maintain healthy hair. She made sure to give me a product list (didn’t pressure me to make a product purchase) and natural hair information sheet to take home with me. Before leaving, Stacy informed me that I could call anytime to ask questions (which I did lol) and although I didn’t speak to her directly when I called in, the other staff members were very helpful. Stacy got me in and out and I didn’t have to spend five hours in the salon! She was a pleasant stylist to be around and made it seem like she loves doing hair. The salon is clean and chic. The staff is very helpful and makes sure you enjoy your experience. They even keep you hydrated while you are under the dryer by bringing you water  I was sure to schedule my next appointment before leaving and am confident that I will receive the same experience during my next visit. I have recommended them to all my friends (relaxed and natural). I am now recommending Stacy at Curltopia to anyone reading my review

First of all, I must say I was pleased with the phone etiquette provided by Ms. Sara. She was very polite and professional over the phone. When I entered the salon, I was very pleased with the environment (very well organized). My stylist, Stacie, came over introduced herself and was very professional. Throughout the whole proces, I felt like she was concerened with what looked right for me and not for her pocket. She made sure I was okay while sitting under the desert sun (hair dryer). She was very knowledgeable on the products and educated me with all the information on how to maintain my transistioning hair at home. Even though the drive is forever for me, I will be returning as soon as I can!!! I love my hair!!!

This was my first visit to Curltopia was a very pleasant experience! I arrived and was greeted by a welcoming space and courteous staff. I did not wait long; Giselle came out and introduced herself. We went to her station and had a brief consultation about my goals for my hair and my expectations of this visit. Giselle was very patient and thorough in her explanations, which put me at ease. I can always appreciate someone talking with me about what I want for my hair before proceeding to do anything to it. I have been natural for about 10 years, though I have only been wearing natural styles regularly for about 2.5 yrs. I had become tired of doing twist sets every week and feeling that I was losing so much hair in the process. Needless to say, I was looking for a something new! Well I found it…Giselle talked me into cutting my ends that were causing so much shedding during washes & my style of choice..COIL OUT (which was new to me). I liked the style and it allowed me to go about 2wks before I had to restyle which was a nice break. My bill was more than double of what I planned when making the appointment.  I am just a firm believer that if natural hair needs hydration and the salon subscribes to this belief then hydration treatments should be included into the price of the hair style (which is more than ample). I don’t like having to choose between what a stylist views as necessary hair health & finances. Giselle did a great job! She really knows & enjoys natural hair and was very engaging. I liked that she wrote up a maintenance plan for me to do between visits which will be a lot because I can’t pay this every two weeks or even once a month. Overall, great salon, wonderful stylist but overpriced!!

I went to Curltopia today after being delighted to find there was a salon near my home that specialized in curly/kinky textured hair. I actually had made the appointment in person a few weeks back and loved the decor and the vibe of the salon then. I made my appointment with Aliah and was very excited to cut my hair, as I've been transitioning for the past 6 months. After reviewing the prices (a tad pricey, but I'm a believer in "you get what you pay for") I was a little unsure of what services I wanted to get. After Aliah and I discussed my options, I opted for color and she suggested flat twists. The color went well and the shampoo was great! She then put me under the dryer for my deep conditioner which was for 15 minutes, but I ended up waiting for around 30-45. That wouldn't have necessarily been an issue if I hadn't needed to pick my infant up from Day Care. That would be my only gripe. She did a wonderful job flat twisting my newly colored hair, but I was unable to sit under the dryer (waiting baby!), so I left with wet hair. I'm sure when I take the twists down tomorrow, I'll like my hair but it would've been nice to have it styled by Aliah, just in case I don't know what I'm doing :) All in all, I'll definitely go back, but maybe not as much as I'd like to just from a budget/time standpoint. Aliah was very nice, worked with my hair with ease, and gave me a list of products to try that I'm sure will be helpful. I'll also tell all my natural/curly haired friends about this salon!

The salon is very clean and quiet. I felt comfortable as soon as I walked through the door. Customer service is great. I didn't feel rushed and all of my questions were answered regarding my new transition to natural hair. I really appreciate the "prescription" that I was given that explained how to care for my hair at home. My girlfriend and I both had our hair washed, steam conditioned, and finger styled and were out in 2 - 2.5 hours. I was pleasantly surprised at the whole experience. Tammie

I returned to natural hair 20 years ago and this was my first experience at a natural hair salon. True. I was skeptical but needed a change and professional advisement. I was so anxious I arrived 45 minutes early and didn't realize it. I met my stylist and surprise she was not eager to tell me about latest and best chemical treatment. Instead there was a mini session on the life or lifelessness of my hair. And surprise it actually made sense! Still abit nervous we continued with the decision to use rods as my transitional style. Who knew I was still in transition thanks to the pressing comb. Well the end result was different and beautiful. I was really pleased. Stacy was phenomenal. The attached photo is from 2.5 weeks. I couldn't be happier. For a relaxing environment yielding exceptional and lasting results try Curltopia. It's worth the appointment wait. Just get on the calendar. And this from a true skeptic. Say hello to Stacy for me.

I haven't been to the salon in years and my hair really showed it. By the time I got in to Curltopia my hair was in need of some serious TLC. Jay took the time to treat my hair and cut it still leaving enough hair to cover some thin spots. Then she showed me how to style and maintain it. I left with a hair "prescription" and the necessary products to finally take care of my natural hair. By the time I walked out of Curltopia, my hair had new life and curls I never knew existed. I wish I had discovered Jay months ago. Jay you ROCK!!!! Thank you Curltopia. Oh and a little about the salon experience, I found everyone I came in contact with to be welcoming and professional. I did not wait long for my appointment, which is important to me because I cannot get back wasted time. I spent a whopping 4 ours in the salon, but that was with a deep treatment, cut, style, and dryer set. Yes, the experience was not cheap, but I have learned you get what you pay for and my trip to Curltopia was money well spent:)

I had heard all these wonderful reviews about the Curltopia salon and knew I needed to go. This is a salon that specializes in natural hair and could give me just the trim I needed. Only, the prices were a MAJOR setback for me (hence 4 scissors). Prices vary by the stylist and their level of experience. I just wanted their haircut service, which includes: shampooing, deep conditioning and a blowout. I was paired up with Aliah and she was awesome. I didn't ask, but I'm sure she's one of the more experienced stylists by the way she handled my hair with ease. Really I was hoping for a junior stylist, charged $40 for my haircut, and finished off with a blowout. But Aliah ended up giving me a finger style, which was an additional $40. I wanted to cry when the receptionist was like, '$80 please.' I hesitantly wrote out the check. But aside from that, the atmosphere is perfect - very feminine and chic. Aliah made sure I wasn't parched, asking me if i needed a cool drink of water under the warm dryer. She also answered whatever questions I threw at her. Finally, I was given a hair prescription for at-home maintenance. Overall, I think this is a great salon. I'd come back. But if you're on a budget like me, I'd highly recommend doing thorough research with the receptionist as to what your expecting prior to your visit. That way you wont have to stain your check with your tears the way I did. ;-)

I have a had several bad experiences in shops with stylists not really knowing the hair. Giselle is my stylist and she is not only knowledgeable but very professional. She tooned in, gave me her undivided attention and and talked about my hair type as well as how to take care of it. She recommended that my hair needed to be hydrated and why. She also explained the reason I should get my hair trimmed (I really needed). Like I said today will be my third visit and I am sure to make another and another and another and..... I’ve been in Atlanta for four month and I was in desperate need of a colorist. A co-worker recommended Curltopia - she said you must see Giselle! After reviewing the website, I was shocked at the prices. I lived in Dallas for eight years and I never paid so much for touch up color on my locks - $70. For that price, my locks should have been pinned up or crinkled when I walked out of the door! And I know, you pay for what you get - but I was charged an additional $10 because she had to mix more color to cover my roots - REALLY! This isn't my first time coloring my locks so I know this wasn't the case. I was only getting a touch up not my entire head of locks colored. When I looked into the mixing bowl, there was still a lot of color left over - why not run the remaining color throughout my other locks to blend it even more OR tint my eyebrows. I’ve already paid for the additional color. Oh, but wait - that would have cost more because that would have been considered coloring my entire head and not a touch up. I get it - you are running a business ... but you don't have to nickel and dime the customers. If you provide professional service, they will come back. I just felt blind sided by the additional cost. I am not sure if I’ll be back for color ... BUT Giselle did an awesome job matching my color ... I enjoyed her so much - very professional and she knows natural hair. I will see her again for my loc maintenance. Curltopia is a very chic and welcoming place. The staff is very nice and friendly. But their prices for some services will shock you!

Just recently grew my hair out after having a relaxer for over 20 years and more recently damaged hair. Heard about this fabulous salon that specialized in curly hair and had stylists who were very knowledgeable about curl patterns and what would and wouldn't work. So, I decided to make an appointment. Stacy was great. She was very informative about what she was doing to my hair and gave me the recipe for taking care of my hair at home. It was a very nice experience and the salon is very professional and chic. Not sure if I'll keep this style, but definitely going back to see what other options I have with this 'new' hair. I highly recommend this salon as I watched the other stylists and really like what I saw of the overall group.

The interior of Curltopia is very nice and the staff are friendly. I am in the process of transitioning so I decided to visit Curltopia to get my hair styled and get some questions answered. I went on a Thursday afternoon so I had no wait. My stylist, Aliah, was very friendly and knowledgeable. She listened and really took the time throughout my visit to explain what she was doing, recommend products and answer my questions. When she finished with my hair, the results exceeded my expectations. I will definitely return to her when I am ready for the big chop!

I found Curltopia through the recommendation of a co-worker who has the most beautiful, bouncy, natural curls I've ever seen outside of a magazine. She told me how she had traveled all the way to New York to get her hair cut in the past- until she found Jay at Curltopia. I took my 11 yr old daughter for her first ever salon haircut yesterday and we are both THRILLED with the result! The salon was clean, quiet and had a relaxed atmosphere with comfortable seating for me to wait while my daughter had her hair done. Jay was on time for our appointment and patiently listened while we explained what we hoped to accomplish with this visit- taking time to look at the pictures my daughter had cut from a magazine and listen to what she did and did not like about the different styles. Throughout the almost 5 hour appointment, I watched Jay work- sometimes from my seat in the waiting area, sometimes right up in her space asking questions. She allowed me to hover when I wanted to see what/how she was doing something and called me over if there when she needed to. I can't really put into words the way her patience and skill comforted me. Every "professional" who has handled Savanna's hair in the past has been exasperated by her "unruly" tangle prone curls (4a- as best as I can figure from the curl types listed on this site), insisting that she would need some sort of chemical process if we ever wanted them to be manageable. We've walked out of other salons without ever allowing the scissors to touch her hair. Curltopia is SO different from the other natural salons I've taken her to- and Jay had the patience of Job as she combed through the tangley damaged ends in order to prepare for what turned out to be a PERFECT haircut When it was time to finger style, Jay talked me through everything she was doing, telling me about the product she was using and why she had chosen that product for Savanna's curls- showing me how I could do it at home, giving me tips and answering every one of the hundred plus questions I tossed her way. Before we left, I was given a written out hair care and styling plan with specific instructions listed for each product recommended. Jay sat down with me to go over the plan and again answered even more questions patiently. When it was time to check out, the receptionist was just as patient with me as I decided which product I needed right then and what could wait until the next paycheck. This morning my daughter awoke with her amazing curls still intact and beautiful- something that has never happened before. I will be forever thankful that we found Jay at Curltopia. She has given us a new outlook on what IS possible with Savanna's hair, and I look forward to many more visits with her.

I love Curltopia. I decided to get my BC in January to start the year off right. I was very impressed with my first visit. I wasn't sure if I was ready to do it but Aliah (who is the bomb and has gorgeous natural hair) was very professional and took the time to educate me on the products she was using. I have since made it my monthly treat to visit the salon. I am entering month (3) of my post BC with awesome growth and will be heading back to Curltopia for a wash, deep condition and steam hydration treatment this Saturday. This salon is the bomb, the atmosphere is beatiful and everyone is very nice. I would reccommend this salon to anyone who wants that extra attention with their natural hair regimen.

I had a great experience at curltopia a few days ago. I went on Friday afternoon and the salon was quiet and professional, which I appreciated. I was greeted immediately, checked in and was offered some hot tea (which I happily accepted). After spending some time waiting, I met my stylist Aliah and explained to her my natural hair journey. She listened and really took the time throughout my visit to explain what she was doing, recommend products and answer my questions. When she finished with my hair, the results exceeded my expectations. I had no idea that my curls could be so defined! Aliah proceeded to explain how to keep up the curls at home and gave me a sheet with all of her recommendations (which is great for me because I forget everything!). I'm on day 3 and my curls are just as beautiful as when I left the salon. Thanks to Aliah and curltopia for educating me on my hair and giving me a great experience. I'll be back for sure.

I woke up on a Tuesday and decided I wanted my hair done that day! I was lucky I got an appointment at 12 and as usual Giselle did a GREAT job on my hair. It was my first time at Curltopia salon and its really cute and well kept. The staff were friendly and professional which made for a relaxing experience. I had my hair colored for the first time in 3 years, steam hydration treatment and a blow out. I am very happy with my color, its exactly what I wanted and compliments my skin tone. Giselle got my hair straighter than I like it, as I am a natural and don't like the stick straight look anymore. But overall, I left a satisfied customer. I do think the pricing is a bit expensive compared to what I am use to paying so I can't go as often as I'd like to. But I will go for maintenance every 2-3 months.

On 3/26/2011, I made an appt. @ Curltopia salon. My stylist was excellent! The salon has an open concept and I like that because I want to see all the stylists working to see who is good. I was greeted at the desk and told to have a seat. I sat for no longer than 5 minutes and Giselle came and introduced herself. She is a very nice and down to earth stylist. I needed a haircut and a steam hydration and I got a twistout style and when she was finished, I looked fabulous!!! She explained to me what I was doing wrong and she gave me a treatment plan for my hair and it was very informative. I got about 1/3 of my hair cut off and I was a little nervous about how my family would like it. I have received SO MANY compliments from family, friends, and coworkers. Much thanks to Giselle for helping me to look FIERCE!!! Curltopia gets a thumbs up from me.

Very Satisfied Customer!!! I have been going natural for a year now, and let me tell you I was on the border of relaxing my hair until one of my sorority sisters told me about Curltpoia. Giselle was my stylist and she was very professional. She talked to me about my hair type, how to take care of it and what products to use. Giselle didn't realize that she was talking to a woman who had already spent nearly $400.00 on hair products just trying different ones, so several of the products she was recommending to me I already had. I was very nervous when she told me that my hair needed to be hydrated, because all I could think of was being underneath the hydration machine for 1 hour while she worked on another client, but she proved me wrong, because she told me 30 minutes and it was 30 minutes. Great, because I really hate when your dyer has stopped and you have to wait another 25 minutes before your stylist comes back to you. Giselle hydrated, trimmed and styled my hair(coil). I am most definitely staying natural because of my experience with Giselle. I must say it was a little costly, but it was well worth it, because I don't mind paying for GREAT SERVICE.

This place is heaven sent! I have been natural for over 10 years and have searched for a place that truly understands my hair. Other salons I have visited in the Atlanta area just never seemed to “get” my hair. Their products and suggestions didn’t work. However, from the moment I sat in Giselle's chair, it was like she had my hair! She knew exactly how my hair behaved and understood its texture. I decided for my first visit that I would have my hair straightened and cut. Typically, when my hair is straightened, it only lasts 3 to 4 days. I am now on day 10 and it still looks amazing even in rainy weather! I am returning to Curltopia on March 30th for a natural curly style. I am so excited about this upcoming visit because not only will I leave with a sheet detailing the products to use on my hair, but Giselle will also teach me how to achieve the same look at home! I can’t wait to see the outcome. I highly recommend Curltopia to EVERYONE. The salon has professional staff and a welcoming atmosphere. Curltopia will make sure that you are physically comfortable (i.e. you will be offered beverages, magazines, etc) and most of all comfortable with your hair.

Atmosphere: The first thing I noticed about this salon was how clean and professional it was! It was simply fantastic to go and get my happy naps handled in such a relaxed yet fun atmosphere. I was offered a drink several times during my visit and was definitely kept comfortable. Another thing I noticed about Curtlopia was the bathroom. I have never been to a salon with a bathroom that I dreaded using. The bathroom at Curltopia was nice and clean with nice smelling soaps and real toilet paper! I know, not about hair, but these things matter when you're getting your hair done, in my opinion. Hair: Giselle did my hair and she is simply amazing! I have had natural hair for 13 years, but I honestly had no idea how to take care of it - I would just buy different products and see what would happen. Giselle first explained my hair type to me (4b/c) and explained the things that my hair needs to be healthy (moisture, moisture, moisture) and then she explained to me the products that would help me achieve this. She first cut my hair down (I figured a big chop was in order) at my request - I wanted to start over being a happy nappy head. She talked to me as she worked and wrote down all the instructions that I needed to handle my own hair. I got my hair done two weeks ago and her suggestions are working! Now I will say that there is one product that I have yet to buy, but some of the products were expensive, but so far, the ones I got are definitely working! Afterwards: I have received several comments on my hair and it is soft and very hydrated! Even though this salon is 20 miles away from my house, I will definitely be returning and once my daughter is old enough to sit still for longer than 10 minutes, I will take her to see Giselle as well! Great spot right outside of Atlanta - I highly recommend it!

FINALLY! I have been here in the Marietta area since Sept 2010 and after visiting 4 other salons, I finally found my new hair care home. I decided to go natural upon moving here from CO and had started to get discouraged and ready to go back to relaxed hair until I finally came across Curltopia while doing a internet search. The salon is in a nice location and the atmosphere was very nice, clean and fresh. I went in and met with Giselle and was very please and excited after my initial consultation and I was already confident she would do a great job when I went back for my appointment. There was something different about her consultation that made me KNOW that she was going to do my hair the way I wanted. I went back yesterday for my appointment and she HOOKED ME UP! I LOVE MY COMB COILS Twist Out. I have attempted to get this look from Kinks and Deeply Rooted Salon (who told me my hair was not long enough, yet Giselle did great coils even after a trim and Rozays Salon from where I walked out looking a mess) Giselle did great coils, twisted them out and took the time to style them. I have gotten so many compliments already while out running errands after my appointment. My husband and kids also love the style. Giselle took the time to explain to me my hair texture in so much detail. She gave me product recommendations for my hair that were very reasonably priced. I immediately booked my next appointment and an appointment for my daughter! Yea Curltopia! If you have or want natural hair...go to Curltopia because you will not be disappointed.

After reading all of the great reviews, I spontaneously (again) decided to call Curltopia, Friday 3/18 and try to get a same day appointment (Though I would not recommend this if you really want an appointment, it took two hours for me to luck up and I had 25 minutes to get there!). The receptionist was very nice and accommodating. She took my number and called me back after they had a client to cancel. Yay for me! The salon is very relaxing and stylish. My stylist was Giselle and she is GREAT! Throughout the process, she explain what she was doing and the products she was using. As I sat under the steamer and the dryer several people came by to offer my beverages (water, coffee, tea, etc). I told Giselle that I had BC'ed myself (though she knew something wasn't right as she was assessing my hair!) so she trimmed and shaped my hair nicely. My hair is very thick and kinky, coily. She knew the right styling products to apply and added some structure to my TWA. Giselle also wrote down a list of products to use on my hair, Including the ones that she used and also several others that would be good for my hair type. She was very personable and suggested products that my be useful for my daughter's hair as well. I was not pressured into buying the hair products at all. She just gave me the list. When I went to check out, I did want to purchase some of the products Giselle listed and she came over to help me find them. I have been growing out my hair from a relaxer since May 2010, I finally decided that I wanted/needed to let the professionals take a look at it and give me advice for health and moving forward. I goggled "natural hair salons in Smyrna," and "Curltopia" popped up! After reading several reviews, I decided to call and make my first appt. I was ecstatic to know that they could get me in the same day!! When I asked the receptionist who my stylist would be, she said, "Giselle." I immediately felt comfortable as I have read several reviews about her alone. Giselle did not disappoint! She was very professional, courteous, personable, and helpful. Throughout the whole process, she talked to me about my hair and how best to care for it. I left with a SMILE and a sheet detailing what products would work best for my hair. I received a hydration, trim, and a coil-out (she made it look sooo easy....it’s not! :). I will definitely be back in a few weeks for another trim and hydration with Giselle.

OH MY GOSH!!!! So I was one of those natural girls that thought because I was natural, I didn't have to get my hair done - Besides who knows my hair better than I do RIGHT?. Well I have never been more wrong. I went to curltopia a week ago and it seemed Giselle new my hair as if it was on her head for 30 years and not mine. I love the atmosphere, the customer service; but most importantly I loved the knowledge that I took with me regarding my hair. It's been a week now and I put the test the routine that Giselle gave me and IT WORKED!!! I've been natural for 4 years now and have never gotten so many compliments. THANKS GISELLE and CURLTOPIA!!!!

I made my first appointment with Curltopia Salon for “The Big Chop.” I was especially grateful to get an appointment a day in advance. I received a reminder phone call two days in advance. When I arrived, I was greeted and had minimal to no wait to get started on my hair. I was a little reluctant, but the staff made me feel comfortable. The shop was clean and neat. I was offered a beverage on several occasions and had all my questions answered. There was even reading material for while I was under the dryer. Everyone was involved in my hair education. It did not matter if I was his/her client or not. When the style was done, I left with a hair prescription (list of products that was used on my hair and how to use them). This was especially helpful so that I would not forget. After that, I thought I would experiment on my own. I was still missing some things evident by the results that I was getting, so I made another appointment. Fast forward 8 months later, I had my second visit. I still received the same excellent customer service, appointment reminder, hair prescription, and had all my questions answered. In my mind I wondered why I ever stopped coming. I am extremely satisfied. Since going back, I have been able to style my hair between visits. I know that I am doing something right because complete strangers have asked questions about my hair. My stylist Giselle is amazing!!! I happily recommend Curltopia and give this salon a thumbs up. Oh yeah and they don’t just specialize in natural hair. They do it all. Who could ask for more?

I visited Curltopia a couple of months ago. My stylist was Jay. She did a very good job with my hair. She was very patient with providing me with information on what I need to use based on my hair type. She introduced me to Stretch Silkening Cream by Miss Jessie's. I wear my hair in a wash and go and the Stretch Silkening Cream works great for me. Jay did a good job at trimming my hair as well. I visit Curltopia on a regular basis to buy products. The ladies in the receptionist area are always very helpful and explains each product well. If you have naturally curly hair, I would recommend going to Curltopia. At Curltopia, you will receive alot of helpful advise, a clean comfortable environment and the ability to purchase your products while you are there.

So I've had my hair cut at the Devachan Salon in NYC. Amazing what they did with my curls. I've been using their products ever since. I have not found anyone who could do with my hair what they did…until now! I was very excited about finding Curltopia online, made my appointment, and told my husband I was going to come home a whole new woman. The salon was chic and clean. My appt was with Jay, who is Deva-trained. She was very knowledgeable about the Deva method and products. She asked me how I wear my hair and what I wanted. She introduced me to their newest curl products - Moroccan Oil. I purchased them. Loved my cut. My curls were super defined and bouncy. I'll be back for future cuts with Jay. I even made an appt for hilites with Jay for next week. Thanks Curltopia for letting us curly girls be ourselves!

I've been going to Curltopia for 2 years. I like the atmosphere of the Salon. It is clean and relaxing. Stacey is a very pleasant and professional stylist. She has excellent customer service skills and tries real hard to please her Clients. My daughter has never had a perm and I am very particular about who does her hair. Stacey educates my daughter about her hair so that she can grow up loving her natural curls and learn how to take care of her natural hair at a young age. I would highly recommend Stacey to Kids, Teenagers and Adults because she is an example of how beautiful natural hair can be if you have a good Stylist and learn how to take care of it at home.

Looking for a great natural hair stylist? Try Aliah at Curltopia. She is very friendly and knowledgeable where natural hair styling is concerned. So what should you expect? She will explain your hair type, advise the best hairstyle for your curl pattern, how to maintain your hair at home and what products to use for your hair type. She doesn't do rush jobs and will take her time while styling your hair to perfection. I've been going to Aliah for over a year now and have gotten great results every time!

Curltopia is a chic salon specializing in curly hair types. The salon is decorated very nice and has a very professional and customer friendly atmosphere. The stylist and staff are all very professional and from what I've seen they all do an amazing job. Curltopia sells the products the stylist use, so you can purchase products to use at home. Aliah, is awesome. Her knowledge and technique are A+. I would recommend Curltopia to the curly heads, especially those moving from or wanting to move from relaxers. Transitioning or Big Chop, Curltopia is the place to stop. The services are a little pricey but are not more than other similar salons. Get pricing before you go so that yo are prepared.

I have been to Curltopia 4 times now. The first two times were not too great, but the last two I was recommended to Robin. She is amazing!! I knew about the Deva cut and their products, but had never had them fully explained. Each time I go, Robin tells me something new about Deva and the benefits of the cut and the products are. She is always very sweet, informative, and helpful! I have recommended her to many curly haired people and will continue to do so. I love the atmosphere of the salon, customer service has always been good I was offered a beverage several times, and I think I've covered everything else! A side note: I live in Dalton, Georgia. I drive about 100 miles 1 way to get my hair cut about 4 times a year. But she is worth it!

I've been to the salon twice to get my hair done and a few times to buy products. The first time I went was about a year ago when I first went natural. I arrived for my appointment only to wait 20min and then my stylist approached me and asked who I was waiting for. Being my first time there, I did not know she was my stylist and when I mentioned the stylist's name she said that was her and that the owner had not informed her that she had another appointment at that designated time. I had my appointment card where they themselves had written the time and she apologized for my wait. Er, okay. Wasn't her fault (I guess). So, I get my hair washed, trimmed (she cut way too much considering I had just big chopped and didn't have much hair to cut in the first place), and then paid an additional $40 for what they call "fingerstyling". I was extremely disappointed to see that my hair looked exactly the same as when I went in only $70 poorer. Fast forward to 2011 I go to get my hair twisted. I've been natural for quite some time and I twist my own hair each night before bed. I arrived for my appointment and the stylist seemed as if she did not even want to be bothered with my hair. She made all the excuses in the world why she could not twist my hair (mind you I take excellent care of my hair so it's not damaged-no heat or anything). I have extremely tightly coiled 4bc hair that no one seems to want to work with. If you take the time to stretch it out you will see it is much longer than it initially appears. I was fine with getting a trim, and not a cut. She ended up cutting almost an inch off (which in African-American hair is a WHOLE lot), and then told me she couldn't twist my hair but could do another style which is not what I booked my appointment for. I ended up thanking her for her time but saying no thank you to a $65 style that I did not book. When I expressed my concerns to the owner they proceeded to offer me $30 off my next service. This is fine but, why would I ever come back to a place that does not want to bother with my hair in the first place. My initial stylist talked down to me like I was not in fact twisting my hair. Next, the owner got another stylist to come see if she would twist it and before the stylist even touched my hair said no she couldn't. Barely even looked at my hair. And when I proceeded to show her that yes in fact I do twist my hair the stylist pushed my hand out the way and then took my hair and acted like she couldn't twist it. I felt very belittled and called my mom while driving home and told her how upsetting the whole experience made me. My mom could not believe a salon could be so unprofessional and called to speak to the owner and express how important it is to be professional in tough economic times such as the one we are currently experiencing. The owner told my mom I could get a free service in a few weeks/months when my hair grows back out. But, like I said before I left, I'm not ever going back there. I will just have to find a salon willing to work with tightly coiled hair such as my own. Beware! They'll wash your hair, cut all your hair off, and then proceed to tell you they can't do the style you made an appointment for, but can do another $60+ style you DON'T WANT and DIDN'T ASK FOR.

I started my natural hair journey about 2 1/2 years ago with Curltopia and I must say they know what they are doing. I was a little hesitant to trust my transistion to a new salon but after a nice cut and style by then stylist Taylor I knew I was in good hands. I left the salon for a few months to try styling my hair myself but that was a bad idea so back to Curltopia I went. My old stylist was gone so I trusted my curls to Giselle and I am so glad I did. She is very knowledgeable about natural hair. She was really interested in giving me the best advice on MY hair and not just hair in general. I have been going to her now for a year and she is the best! .. Curly, straight, wavy, she can do it all. The salon is clean and the people are nice. The best thing is that a 9:00 am appointment means a 9:00 am. appointment. No waiting around for your appointment. Highly recommend..

Curltopia is just another salon... don't be fooled by their website like i was! -- Did the salon atmosphere meet my standards? Yes. -- How was my customer service? Poor. -- Was I offered a beverage? No -- Did my stylist educate me about my hair? No. -- Did they explain how to use the correct products for my hair type? No. -- Did my hair service exceed my expectations? Not in the least. If you visit the "services" page on www.curltopia.com, you'll notice the headline states, "All of our services include a shampoo, complimentary deep conditioning treatment, consultation, the service, a prescription of the products we hand-selected specifically for you, and instructions on how to maintain your hair at home." Here's what i received: a shampoo, complimentary deep conditioning treatment, and the service. I did not get a consultation, prescription of products, nor instructions for home-maintenance; this is very upsetting since the ONLY reason I visited Curltopia was to receive a consultation. Not only did I make this clear to the young lady at the front desk, I also told my stylist (who never even told me her name) before she started my hair. While she did a nice two-strand twist, and told me what products she was using on my hair, she failed to clarify whether I should try these products at home. In fact, she failed to give me any advice on my hair-type and how to care for it. Furthermore, after she was finished with my two-strand twist (a process which took FIVE HOURS?!), I had to ASK her questions about the style. As I was checking out with the lady at the front desk, she suggested some products, but none that would specifically cater to my hair. So, I ended up purchasing a pricey tub of curl creme that doesn't seem to be doing much for my tresses. I expected to walk out of Curltopia with more knowledge about my curls and how to care for them, but honestly, I feel as though I'm right where I started: frustrated. On another note, the atmosphere was clean and pleasant, and it didn't smell of pressed/relaxed hair like many salons do. Even though I was never offered any, they had fresh coffee and tea available to patrons; also, everyone wasn't talking/chatting/gossiping like the salons i'm used to. Nonetheless, Curltopia doesn't specialize in educating their consumers about their hair; they specialize in STYLING natural hair. The stylists do a great job or styling, but THAT'S ALL THEY DO - DO NOT GO TO CURLTOPIA EXPECTING A "CONSULTATION"... you'll be disappointed.

Hello natural beauties, My name is Anita and on January 5th I had my fist hair appointment with stylist Jay at Curltopia. During this visit I got the big chop done. I just wanted to tell everyone that I had a wonderful visity at this salon. The entire staff is extremely friendly and knowledgable of their craft. All the associates tell you the "truth' about the hair products that work best for "your hair". They never concentrate on curl types, but more so on getting your hair as healthy as it can be. I was truly impressed by the level of proffesionalism of all the assoicates as well as the amount of natural hair products they provide for sale. I would recommend this salon to all women who are transitioning or wanting to go natural. Curltopia will assist you in your journey to true hair freedom and embrassing the "natural beauty" that is within you.

Yesterday, I visited Curltopia for my first Diva cut. The salon was easy to find, clean, trendy and very frendly. Anyone would feel comfortable here. Robin is THE BEST! She offered me a drink and took her time talking to me and understanding what I wanted for my hair. After decades of alternately growing my hair out only to have a curly hair ignorant stylist ruin it with a bad cut I was freaked out!!! I was cutting my hair myself and doing a pretty good job of it, but needed someone who would tweek it without changing it too much. Robin really understood my fears and what I wanted for my hair. I have soft curls with the crown being straiter than the rest. I left the salon with EXACTLY what I was hoping for. Robin coaxed more curl and volume into the top and gave me a beautiful shape that is very flatering. I just washed and styled for the first time and my just below shoulder length hair is shake and go and BEAUTIFUL!!!

She cut the remaining relaxer out of my hair and gave me a great finger style. I told her that my other stylist had been doing my hair for over 20 years and that I have never allowed anyone else to cut my hair. Aliah kindly taught me how I should take care of my hair and wrote everything down that I needed. Lastly, this salon is not as pricey as some of the other natural salon which is 5 stars in my book.

I had my best curly cut experience at Curltopia salon in Smyrna Georgia. The salon itself has a very upscale feel, but the prices are still pretty reasonable. My stylist, aaliyah, was very knowledgeable about products and techniques. I needed a cut because the hair on my left side grows faster than my right and I wanted to even it up all over. I was very nervous because I've had bad experiences with stylists in the past who were a little "scissor happy'. She listened to my concerns and gave me the perfect cut without having to straighten my hair! After I was all finsihed, she gave me a list of all the products she used and also recommended a few items that the salon didn't carry. Overall I was throughly pleased and have since recommended many friends to set an appointment!

Jay has worked her magic on my thick, type 4 hair several times now so I can confidently say I am impressed with her knowledge and skill. Curltopia is a neat, clean, and professional salon. I've never waited more than a few minutes to be seen and Jay is always efficient and respectful of my time. Jay is also very open to trying things with my hair that other stylists have scoffed at, and the styles come out looking great and long lasting, even through my strenuous workouts. She always explains what she is doing step by step and the what the products she are using are designed for. She is not pushy however and will suggest how you can use products you already have to achieve a style. The salon also offers free wi-fi which is a plus for those of us who like to work while spending time under the dryer:)

Also, a plus is their hydration treatments...it has worked wonders on my hair while transitioning.

As soon as I enter I was greeted by the receptionist, offered something to drink, and my wait time to getting my hair done was less than five minutes. Although I was there for two hours I felt my stylist took her time and gave my hair the care it needed. I hate how sometimes I go to other salons and they try and rush through my hair because they have others waiting. I didn’t feel rush at all while my stylist did my hair. My stylist was able to answer all the questions I asked about my hair. She also was able to point me in the right direction of the products that would be good for my hair while I transition to become natural. Overall the service exceed my expectation because I felt like I actually mattered where as I normally don’t in other salons. In other salons I feel like just another head getting done. Curltopia will defiantly be getting my service again.

I knew I needed to have my ends trimmed, but I was terrified of what the results would be. I never really had a positive experience in the past with stylists 'trimming' my hair. However, I was pleasantly suprised to say the least. Jay did a fantastic job on my cut without taking off too much length!! IShe took the time to show me how much she felt needed to come off prior to actually cutting my hair. That was a first! I can tell the difference in the way my hair looks and feels. She also did a twistout for me and 3 days later my hair is still soft with nice curl definition. I loved the fact that Jay took the time to tell me what she felt my hair needed and was missing yet did not try to push their preferred products on me. I ended up purchasing them but it was not because I felt pressured to. I will DEFINITELY be returning to let Jay work her magic with my hair!

One day 10 years ago a friend gave me the best advice regarding taking micro-braids out. She said get in the shower and use conditioner and they will just slide out. I had the braids for a couple of months longer than I should have so I had plenty of new growth. After seeing how my new growth looked with all that conditioner I fell in love with my natural hair. I have been natural ever since. Unfortunately I could never figure out how to keep the look I fell in love with throughout the day when my hair would dry. Fast forward 9 years later and several salons later...salons that say they do natural hair but all they do is press or braid...salons that actual style natural hair, if you have $100+ a visit....and FINALLY I found the perfect stylist. I get complemented on the color of my hair and the style of my hair daily. It is affordable for me to go frequently not just when I have an event to attend. I am extremely busy and not very good at doing my own hair, but Staci showed me how to keep my look up throughout the week and I’m amazed how easy and quick it is to do. And the outcome is better than the overly priced salons I have visited. From that day 10 years ago I had remained in love with the possibility of the way my natural hair could look...now I am in love with how it does look. Thank you!

I love Curltopia! The stylists are very knowledgeable if you are transitioning to natural hair and will recommend the best style according to your hair type and texture. Aliah is my stylist and does a great job in helping me take care of my hair. The salon has a friendly atmosphere; I look forward to my monthly visits as a time to sit back, relax and have my hair pampered!

For the past year and a half Aliah has been part stylist, part therapist as I transitioned from a relaxer to my natural hair. I can honestly say that if it were not for her educating me on haristyle options and techniques, conditioners, moisturizers, etc. I would have abadoned this journey a long time ago. Instead I learned how to work with my hair and I have not looked back since. I regularly get compliments on my hair and questions about who does it. I can't say enough about Aliah!

Stylist: Naeema

I love this salon! This is a great place to go if you are transitioning your hair or have natural hair. The staff is friendly and professional and will make sure you are taken care of. I have been going to Naeema for the past 3 months and she is very knowledgeable about transitioning hair and will answer any questions and give you advice about the process. The process has been difficult but she has helped relieve some of my frustration by helping me understand the process. She also is very gentle with my hair and can definitely style! My hair always comes out great, soft, and manageable! In addition, the salon is well-maintained and extremely clean - a big PLUS in my book. I recommend this salon (and especially Naeema) to anyone who is transitioning and/or has natural hair.

Stylist: Stacey

Rating: Salon Rating: 5 Scissors

I started going to Curltopia about a year ago. I had been wearing extensions for about a year trying to grow my hair out and I finally decided to wear my hair out. I went and met Stacey and I can say she was AMAZING from day 1. She educated me on all the different ways I could wear my hair and what worked best for my hair type. She was honest and knowledgeable and she is my stylist for life. I never knew how important it was to hydrate natural hair and Stacey educated me. I am now hooked to the hydration treatments using Miss Jessies Rapid recovery. My hair is so shiny and soft thanks to Stacey and the products. I must also say the atmosphere at Curtopia is so relaxing. I can enjoy a cup of tea and just relax when I get my hair done. I love it there..

Stylist: Stacey

Stacey is amazing. She always manages to give me a great style. I just recently had my color done, and it brings out the curls in my hair. My hair is either 4a or 4b, and you could not tell by the way she fixes my hair. She also gives me great tips on taking care of my hair at home. She is always on time and works to get you in and out, but gives your hair the attention it needs.

Stylist: Brittany

My hair looks great! Brittany did a great job with the color in my hair. I look amazing, well; I looked amazing before, but now even more amazing. She helped me learn more about my hair and what I can do to make my hair keep on looking great. Besides looking fabulous the experience at Curltopia was great. Hair dressers are friendly and really down to earth. The hospitably was great, got offered something to drink a few times while she was doing my hair. The place has a cool vibe to it and it’s comfy and clean. I will defiantly go back for my touch up and advise you give Curltopia a try yourself.

Stylist: Jay

I am so excited to have found this salon. They are friendly, organized, timely, and professional. I feel like Jay is my hair angel. She handles my hair so well. I will be going back again and again.

Stylist: Jay

This is my second visit to Curltopia. The first visit was for a rod set on my transitioning hair. I can tell you, Jay gave excellent information regarding my hair and how to manage it while I was transitioning and the rod set was fab, it lasted an entire week. I went back on my second visit for my BC and Jay made sure I was ready and talked me through the whole process. She is very knowledgeable about natural haircare. I really enjoyed both experiences at curltopia. The salon is professional and has a funky style. I would recommend the shop to anyone working with curly, natural hair....

Stylist: Naeema

I searched google for salons offering steam hydration treatment and found Curltopia. Conveniently located for me at I285 & S. Cobb Dr. I was impressed with the upscale salon for its decor and atmosphere. Best of all was the stylist I selected...Naeema. She is a chic, trendy stylist with a personality to match. She assesses your hair needs and gives your advice for hair care at home. I don't have a relaxer and with her will not need one again. My hair is now silky and healthy. You will be 100% satisfied with Naeema as well as other services provided at Curltopia.

Stylist: Aliah

I have been a client at Curltopia since May 2010. Aliah has been great with my hair during my transitioning phase. From the first visit, she has been very informative on the state of my hair and how to take care of it at home. Also, she is willing to try different products to see what may be best for my hair. I enjoy my visits to the salon and the atmosphere is very professional.

Amazing!! Yeah that's right, only one word is need ed when describing Stacy's performance styling. My hair is always sensational when I leave and not only that, I can always be assured that she respects my time.. None of that I'll work you in. I love that! I can always be assured that my appointment is respected and I can plan the rest of my activities for the day looking my very best.

Stylist: Aliah

The experience was GREAT! The salon and beautiful and welcoming. Aliah was great with my time constraints when entering the salon. She gave me wonderful pointers on how to take care of my hair since I am in the process of transitioning to natural. I would recommend this salon to anyone and everyone!

Stylist: Stacy

I love going to Stacy to style my hair. She is quick and efficient. She usually thermally straightens my thick kinky curly hair to silky perfectionl I initially went there to straighten my hair for a much needed trim. I generally like curly styles such as twist or rods. The option of a healthy thermal straightening experience is wonderful. I plan to have Stacy highlight my hair because she really knows how to maintain the health of the hair

Stylist: Aliah

Curltopia is a great neighborhood salon for ladies looking for a sophisticated spot outside of the downtown/midtown hub. The entire staff is professional and knowledgeable. Whether shopping for product or having a hair service, you are welcomed, treated kindly and no hair challenge appears to be great. Stylists are very good about explaining the products they select for your hair and even send you home with a step-by-step hair care guide. Aliah is considered a "Master Stylist," and from my experience, that seems to be a well deserved title.

Stylist: Robin

Robin is my girl at Curltopia, and I have not let another touch my hair since the first Deva cut she gave me earlier this year. I just happened across the salon while driving through Smyrna, and had a wild hope that maybe they knew about the Deva cut. Wish granted! Robin is a Deva expert, and I love the way my hair looks and feels when I leave her chair. When I came to her a few months ago as a very dark brunette (we're talking almost black), with the wild idea of going blond, she took on the challenge, educated me about the process, and made it happen. My curls are beautifully cut and healthy and shiny as can me. I am now loving my blond locks, and everywhere I go I get compliments about the cut and color. The salon has a fun, relaxing feel, and the staff is professional and welcoming. Go check it out, you won't regret it!

Stylist: Aliah

Curltopia is a first class salon with a chic atmosphere. They place an emphasis on extraordinary customer care with a personal touch. Aliah is a highly skilled stylist. I am transitioning & I am not ready for the "BC" or a "TWA" but definitely in need of shape & style. Aliah listened to what I wanted to accomplish. She sculpted an amazing cut with great definition & shape. She also recommended a maintenance regiment, & products. The salon is $$$ & the services are Ala-carte! I would recommend it, especially to those newbie natural kinky, coily, curly, and wavy heads out there.

Stylist: Jay

This salon carries several curly hair product lines, which is why I initially started going there. They have great product sales as well. I don't go to salons often, but Jay recently washed, conditioned, and straightened my hair. She did a great job on the trim--which it was in desperate need of--without taking too much length away. The results exceeded my expectations. Thanks!

Stylist: Jay

I walked into Curltopia randomly and never went anywhere else. My stylist Jay is very knowledgeable. She understands my needs and concerns. They have excellent custormer service and are always willing to correct their mistakes if made.

Stylist: Tas

I love the whole idea behind Curltopia. They were a quality salon specializing in curly hair but they're very pricey with their a la carte services. When I would visit, my preferred stylist was Tas but he's no longer there. Fortunately though, he's opened his own salon, www.naturalxpressionsalon.com and his prices are amazing. Much more affordable and you still get impeccable service and care for your naturally curly hair.

Stylist: Robin

I had a really great experience with Curltopia! Robin does the deva-style cut and literally goes through each curl one by one before washing (no-poo) and conditioning. She really knows all the good CG techniques like not using towels to dry your hair or brushing. Thanks Robin!

Stylist: Aliah

Today I went to Curltopia and had Aliah cut my hair and give me layers. I have virtually straight hair for the most part but I've seen it curly before so I knew it had potential. Aliah gave me the perfect cut and didn't cut too much off yet my hair still curled amazingly with a little diffusing and their amazing miss Jessi's quick curls! Thanks girl!

Stylist: Tas

I found Curltopia because they were the feature salon on Miss Jessie's website. I had been thinking about going natural for about a year. I researched salons for a week before I decided on Curltopia and made an appointment for my BC. Tas was awesome and very funny, he talked me step by step through the entire process. He explained what products he was using and what they did for my hair, what not to use, how to do it at home, and HE WROTE IT ALL DOWN FOR ME! I also love the decor there, everyone is really sweet and its comfortable. I just recently went back to him to get my 1st professional dye job, it came out beautiful and Tas recommended 2 products that would keep my new color-treated hair looking great but wouldn't break the bank. I was never a big fan of salons but Curltopia will definitely get my steady repeat business. If you are looking for a salon and your on the fence about going natural; go see Tas, he is very knowledgeable about hair, especially natural hair.

Stylist: Tas

I've had a relaxer in my hair from the age of 7 to 35. I was ready for something new and more natural. I didn't want to transition from the relaxer. After weeks of researching about natural hair, I decided to go for the big chop. During my research, there were good reviews about Curltopia, but specifically about Tas. Tas was funny, very informative, and made me feel comfortable about the care of my newly natural hair. Tas recommends products specifically for your hair type. In addition, he demonstrates how to care for your hair and gives you written instructions to take home. If you are ready to go natural, call Curltopia, but make sure you ask for Tas. You won't regret it!

Stylist: Aliyah

I have been very apprehensive to let a stylist cut my hair because I know how "scissor happy" they can get. However, I had nothing to worry about because Aliyah did an excellent job cutting my hair! I needed an all over trim and I also wanted some bulk taken off the sides and back, but I wanted to keep my length at the top. Well, she listened and delivered! I am extremely pleased, and I no longer fear salons (as long as she's the one cutting :-] )

Stylist: Robin

I have struggled with my naturally curly hair for 52 years! My daughter, who has struggled as well with her long natural curly hair has become adept with managing it thanks to Robin, surprised me with a visit which transformed my way of "dealing"with my hair. I totally abused my hair with hot curling irons, the wrong types of shampoos and conditioners only to be overwhelmed with "out of sort" hair especially on humid days. Robin is excellent at her profession!

Stylist: Robin

I moved to a new city a couple of years ago and have struggled, once again, through really bad haircuts, trying to find a stylist that 'gets it.' My last haircut was absolutely awful and it has had me feeling very down and insecure. So, I am visiting friends in Atlanta and my girlfriend casually mentioned Curltopia. I had never heard of such a place and immediately called yesterday to see if they could fit me in at the last minute. Well, I have just returned from getting the best haircut I've ever had in my life. Robin was extraordinarily patient and went through my mop curl by curl, snipping and shaping. I can't even describe the incredible feeling of finally having someone tame this hair! If I can't find someone in Dallas to cut my hair properly, I will fly back to Atlanta to go to Curltopia and see Robin again, oh and I can visit my friends too. ;-) I am a new woman! Thanks Robin! -Cathy Ives

Stylist: Taylor Weatherford

I finally found what every girl who moves to a new city is looking for: the salon that does everything right! Personnel were friendly, professional, and helpful. Salon was clean but not museum-like, so I could relax. My stylist, Taylor, was FANTASTIC. She really listened to what I wanted and took my hair type into account when deciding what to do. I left feeling like a new woman!

Stylist: Taylor

My experience with Curltopia has been fantastic. Everyone is always so pleasant and welcoming. Taylor is an AWESOME colorist. Picture this...On my first visit, I arrived with a natural black afro colored with red henna (henna you could barely see, due to my natural dark hair color), and I wanted to do an all-over color in the light brown family with golden highlights. What planet was I on? I needed a miracle worker and I got one in Taylor. Any fears I had were layed to rest after sitting in her chair. She's confident and she knows how to mix -n- match color to bring you exactly what you ask for and then some! She took the time to make sure everything was just right. The products used by Curltopia are top of the line and they make a big difference in the end result. The color and highlights came out BEAUTIFULLY. I got so many compliments. So, if you are looking for a great salon Curltopia is THE place!!!

Taylor did a great job helping me understand my new curlier hair as I had a 5 min. perm. She was friendly, knowledgable with a new process she just learned from a class. She trimmed just the edges of each curl and then applied products that would best serve my hair. I will be back..thanks Taylor

Stylist: Robin Sjoblom

My hair has been cut, colored and styled by Robin Sjoblom for about 12 years. There is absolutely No One else I would let color/style my hair! Robin is always up on the latest techniques. The compliments I get on my hair not only come from friends and family but complete strangers stop me to ask: "Who does your hair?" The experience that Curltopia provides with the hip surroundings and great Deva Care "No-Poo" Hair Products make you feel like a VIP every time! I would strongly recommending giving Curltopia a try no matter how far away you are!!!

Stylist: Taylor

I got the "c" cut from Taylor and couldn't be happier! The styling does take longer than my previous 30-second scrunch technique, but I'm able to do it on my own and it's definitely worth the time. My curls are super-soft and perfect and only require one styling product. Plus the cut was reasonably priced for an Atlanta area salon.

I started out at Urbanbella but since Tas moved to Curltopia I've moved as well. His new location is HUGE and the receptionist is very pleasant. You can easily relax with the music, reading material, and complimentary beverages. They have WIFI and the women under the dryers kept busy with their laptops. The prices vary, it really depends on the service that you need. In my opinion, Tas is the stylist to go to if you have natural curly/kinky hair. He is very upfront about my hair, and teaches me how to do my hair so I can maintain it at home. He knows so much about what products are right for me. Tas knows natural hair, transitioning hair, curly hair, kinky hair. If you have naturally curly hair, no matter your ethnicity, head to Curltopia, they will do you right... Thank you Tas!
