I visited the Gerrard location a few days ago and had the most fab experience too!! Christos cut my hair and another stylist highlighted my hair and it turned out sooooo good that i just cant stop looking at myself in the mirror!!! The staff was very friendly, consultations were very thorough, their techniques and timings were spot on! Ya all really need to go back n book yourselves appointments here again cut these guys are awesome at what they do! Two thumbs up for Christos and his team!
I visited Urban Textures Salon (Gerrard location) today on June 22, 2013. I had the EXACT OPPOSITE experience as indicated by other reviewers. I was greeted immediately by friendly staff and Christos who cut & styled my hair. Christos was extremely professional, precise, and took his time to ensure that I was satified with my new hair do! I would definitely recommend this salon to anyone looking for well-skilled stylists who take great pride in their craft and are versatile with the types and textures of hair that they work with. It is well worth it! I have no regrets and will be frequenting this salon regularly. My advise ladies and gents.... do not let the other reviews deter you! I give this salon 5 out of 5 stars!! Kudos to Christos and staff!
OMG what can I say about this salon...let me start with RUN WHILE YOU CAN!!! These people are the most unprofessional people I have ever come across. I went to this salon on the bases that I was going to have a curly hair style and cut from groupon for $30. I INQUIRED about changing my hair colour since I had dyed it dark and didn't like it anymore. Once Faye was done evaluating my hair she quoted me $200! I told her that was way too expensive especially since I had come in for the groupon. Her exact words were "I got you with the price". WIth that being said I figured she was going to discount the process that I wanted. So she went ahead and coloured my hair, and blow dried and flat ironed it. By the time she was done my hair only looked like a red colour on the roots and the rest was still the same dark colour. She charged me $130! I asked her for what since the colour didn't even change and all she did was blow dry my hair. (my hair is shoulder length) She babbled that it was because she did try to lighten it and plus the style and that she did discount it. It was my fault for not getting the price clear cut, but I figured she knew I didn't want to spend a lot. I was so angry that I paid and left and didn't want to start an argument since it was packed. The following Monday I tried to call and speak to the manager (Christos) but I guess he was way too busy to have the decency to call me back. I called ample times and the only person that called me was a receptionist. So I wrote a very long letter to the better business bureau and the following day I received a phone call from Amanda. She claimed she was the colourist there and that king Christos will give me two free colours to correct the crap that Faye did. I went there and Amanda stripped my hair and dyed it a cinnamon colour. One problem though: she didn't get close enough to the roots so I had blond roots. Leaving there at first it looked alright, but once it started growing out it looked like a hot mess! So I called to get my colour corrected again; the day of the appointment I was running late. I called her in advance telling her I was going to be late, which she said was fine. I was 30 mins late and she had the nerve to tell me she couldn't do my hair!!! (keep in mind I told her I was running late..) She said she had somewhere to go and that she couldn't do it. I asked her why didn't she call me and I would have turned around instead of driving all the way downtown, and paying for parking. She looked at me with a blank stare and then apologized. She offered for me to come on another day but from everything I've been through with them, who the hell would go back??? I told her no and just left. No one could even pay me to return to that salon. Guess I've learnt my lesson and will be returning to the curl ambassadors where the service is like night and day.
I used to go to Urban Textures a while back and there was always an overturn in clients. When one of my stylist left, i went to an well seasoned stylist from NY, Nakisha. She was one of the best stylist there! not only did she do amazing styles, she grew my hair. She amazing! Unfortunately like all the other stylist there, she left! i was soooooo disappointed. After searching ans searching for her! i found her! she's now working out of Qisalon at 37 King St east. When i lost her, no one knew how to do my hair, my hair was soooo sad! now it's happy again!
Christos is the owner of the salon. There were many complaints by the employees about not getting paid and cheques bouncing, so I'm not surprised that the Gerrard Street salon is now closed. Generally Christos can do hair well, but he is never on time for appointments. I've waited sometimes 2 hours for him to show up for an appointment. That time I ended up being the last person in the salon after being there for over 5 hours. I had the same experience as one of the other reviewers when it comes to "trimming". He asked to trim my hair and the next thing I know I went from having long hair to short hair. The next appointment (2 weeks later), he asked again if I was trimming my hair. I think he just wanted the extra cost of a trim because there was definitely no need to "trim" again after just cutting it a couple of weeks before. Does anyone know of a good salon in Toronto for relaxed hair? I need to find a salon that can relax hair well (without overprocessing) and cares about hair health. Any place other than Jazma's and Azan's. Thanks.
I came to know Urban Textures salon from my job search. I did not google the company! Pretty stupid on my part! I learned a good lessson! Upon arriving to Urban Textures for my initial start day there was no one to even let me in. I had no key nor did I know or was shown prior on a number of training visits how to get into the store. Once being the store and starting my job I was calling to confirm appointments and in one day from speaking with cllients that had appointments already booked I was asked by 4 separate people how long their services would take? and all 4 people had stated that their last several previous appointments took 5 hours to complete. Obviously again Urban Textures just makes the appointments without having the service providers and the clients leave angry having waited for 5 or more hours! I started at the begining of the week but I could see that there were more appointments and a lack of service providers to carry out the services needed in a professinal timelime. Being that I have been in the Hairstyling beauty industry for many years this caused concern but I needed a job. I hope for the best but this was not the outcome! unfortunately! I also was told upon interview/meeting beforehand that there was an assistant but alas there was not. The salon was constantly philthy, unkept.(due to not having anyone cleaning and up keeping) and looking around I myself would not ever go to such a place to get my hair taken care of even for free! I never saw any sterilization processes at all. It was obvious that there had not been a fresh coat of paint on the premises in many many many years! Old hair colour on the wall! Disgusting! Again on interview and the process I was given hours of when to work these were never the correct or actual hours being that they were severely under staffed. The business has and had an extreme hig turnover with employees....not a good sign but you do not find out these things until you are there. If you want your hair done in a timely professional manner and want to feel special getting services this not the place...RUN do not WALK from Urban Textures!
Hi, I wanted to give a review on this salon. I used to come to Urban Textures for a long time my hairstylist was Keith and he always did a fabulous job and I always left the salon happy. Unfortunately he left and I had to make appointments with who I thought was also a fabulous hairdresser, Kristo in August. But oh was I wrong. Although he does hair extremely well he is lacking the most important skill, LISTENING TO WHAT THE CUSTOMER WANTS AND NOT WHAT HE WANTS. I made an appointment with kristo for the first time. The first time I did my hair he did a wash and style and I he told me that he wanted to shape my hair. I agreed with him and told him he can do it as long as he does not cut it short because I hate short hair! Although I told him that he still kept on cutting cutting and cutting. I was so devastated and unhappy after he was finished with my hair that I felt like crying. I have never felt so unsatisfied at a hair salon in a long time and I have been to many hairdressers very often in toronto for the past ten yrs and I have never been so unsatisfied because he did not listen to my main concern, I HATE SHORT HAIR. It is now December and my hair that was once beautiful lon and luscious, is now and still short limp and lifeless. I still feel like crying when I look inthe mirror because my hair is taking a very long time to grow back and has never been the same since Kristo touched it. I made a vow that I will never step foot in that Salon and I now go to another great black salon called Azan's. Andrea De Leon

This is by far the worst service ever! I arrived at 12:00pm for an appointment, which i was getting a relaxer re-touch and style and didn't leave until 5:00pm (closing time).- This service should only take approx 2hrs. I was treated bad by christos and I heard him talking down to his staff. And he has his nanny who does his house work and babysits his kids doing hair! Who in their right mind wants a person with zero experience in their head? I've seen better service in toronto, and no one deserves to be treated this way after they put their time and money into bad service, it feels like your getting ripped off!
Christos is the Creative director and owner of Urban Textures. He is amazing! I moved to Montreal from Toronto and I have yet to get a stylist to take my naturally curly/kinky African hair from kinky ringlets to silky swinging straight the way Christos and his staff do. He trains all of his staff to work with extreme textures with out compromising the health of the hair. When you get a Urban Textures blow-dry, there's NO FRIZZ regardless of the humidity or dampness in the air. Anyone with any texture who wants a stylist who truly understands not just straight or curly but any texture should check them out!
