After a lot of research, I chose the salon for my big chop after 17 months of transitioning. Was offered water or tea as soon as I walked into the salon. Louie eased my fears about my haircut and color. He walked me through his process. My haircut and highlights came out great. I retained most of my length. Will be back in 4 months for a trim.

Does anyone know what Salon Eileen went to? I just recently called up to book an appointment with her and they said she is no longer there :(. I had gotten my 1st curly cut ever with her and loved it , now im heartbroken because she's gone!

LOUIE definitely saved my curly hair!! I highly recommend him! Continue reading for the full story. I went to the Beehive salon in Brooklyn for the first time on Sunday. Honestly, the only reason I went was because it was open, nearby, and cheap. But I guess you get what you pay for.. at least I found it to be that way with junior stylist, Stephanie. I made a same-day appointment and was charged $50, the lowest cost women’s haircut they have. I was supposed to receive a Deva Cut but what I got was FAR from it. She SLASHED my curly hair with her shears while it was dry and randomly thinned out chunks of hair at a time- Definitely NOT the Deva way. She didn’t even use Deva products, so I had to use a sulfate shampoo because I had a feeling she used a conditioner with silicone or something b/c it was not working well with my hair. I will NEVER go to her again. Sorry for the shitty review but you made me ANGRY. Don’t say you do Deva Cuts when you don’t actually, she ruined the hair I’ve been growing out for nearly a year.. thanks. So I called back and insisted on another cut, even if I had to pay more. Nicely enough, Louie agreed to fix my hair free of charge! Even tho normally he is $75 because he is a senior stylist. Anyway, he is AWESOME! He listened to me and inspected my curls ten times more effectively than Stephanie. He even gave me awesome tips to do at home.. he truly knows curly hair!! He gave me a fabulous cut and didn’t even have to cut off too much more, b/c he knew I wanted to keep as much length as possible. I will definitely go back to see him. He’s better than the junior stylists at Devachan, for about the same price. So if you’re looking for a cheap alternative to the Devachan Salon.. Go see Louie!!

I saw Rene today and got a fantastic cut in Beehive's Islip location. She spent a lot of time talking to me about what I wanted in my cut and made suggestions without ever being pushy. She spent almost an hour cutting my hair taking her time to pay attention to the curl pattern and making sure the layers were just right to give my hair great shape. Rene also suggested products and treatments without being pushy and gave me samples to try. Also every person in the salon was SO nice, making sure I was being taken cared of, i was introduced to every employee there. I highly recommend this salon and Rene!

Casey is an absolute hair cutting angel!!! She cut about 11 inches off my curls today and I couldn't be happier with my hair! Before today every haircut has been a tramatic experience, but for the very first time in my life I have a haircut I LOVE all thanks to Casey at Beehive. It was amazing how much time Casey spent just talking with me about my hair, what I was looking for in a style, products for my specific hair and how sure she wanted me to be about talking off so much length. Within the first 3 minutes of sitting down in her chair I knew I was in the capable hands that had been missing all these years. She cut my hair by the devacurl method while it was dry and it then again after my wash, condition and dry she did even more sculpting. Right after my wash and condition Casey had be flip my head forward and low and behold she got on the floor, literally, and proceeded to work product through my hair( I knew then and there that I was in love). I am no longer afraid of getting my hair cut and am looking forward to my next cut with Casey which I've already booked 3 months in advance. Casey is only at beehive for a few days every six weeks, so call ahead and reserve an appointment with her because she is so worth the wait. My haircut only cost $83 before tip and product purchases...which I might add were not pushed at all. I'm so glad I trusted the reviews on NaturallyCurly and went to Beehive!

Casey saved my life after a horrible hairtasrophe. I had "mildly" relaxed my 3b/3c hair over the summer (2005) to defrizz it, what ended up happening was half way through growing out the horrible chemical a few months later, my hair actually broke off. Casey took the time to really shape my hair into a really ice short fro/bob. She's introduced me to great products, and is always letting me try new curly lines to style me after my cut. I couldn't have been more lucky to go to curly stylist for the first time, and have it turn out so good! Hair is one thing I don't need to be stressed out about, and since going to Casey for my cuts - I never need to be!

I have been going to Casey for 3 years now and she is amazing!!! I will not trust my hair to anyone else. You have to call to see when she is in town. She will be booked for months in advance, but she is totally worth it. She cuts my 3C curls dry, sets themm with curly pudding, dries them and re-shapes them. I can't say enough about the time she takes on my, and how great I feel afterwards. Best stylist ever!!!

I have been going to Eileen for awhile now and I have always been really pleased with my haircuts. She is the first stylist that I felt really knew how to cut and style my curly hair. She pays attention to detail and takes her time with each curl. I have referred several friends to her and they are all extremely pleased. Eileen at Beehive is the best!

When I first met Eileen I thought, "uh oh, this woman has straight, cropped hair. Will she 'really' get my curly hair?".... My concern was completely unwarranted. Eileen gets curls. She understand that the curls on my nape aren't as strong or springy as the curls on the top of my head. Yet, the styles she gives me are mullet proof. She also has a fabulous eye for how colour can bring out my curls. She's given me the best highlights I've ever received. People stop me on the street to ask where I get my hair done. Eileen deserves to win this competition for making me look so hot. Thanks Eileen.

Eileeen is a caring and attentive stylist, who takes her time inspecting the curls , and helping to teach customers how to get the look at home , she is great.

I echo everything good mentioned here about Eileen! She is a rockstar! Every time I visit, I get the best haircut ever. Before I came to Beehive Salon, every stylist treated my hair as if it were straight. I was nervous going to salons and mad when I left. Every cut Eileen gives me leaves me feeling great! I love what an artist she is. Very detailed and knows what she's doing! Always great about asking me exactly what I want, explaining the "curly process" and products, and just being friendly! I will not go to anyone else! Great service! Great price!

I'd always thought that curly-hair specialists were all hype -- especially considering the $100-plus haircuts many of my kinky-haired friends touted. Eileen, though, proved me totally wrong, and for way less than I thought it would cost. Gal's a curly-hair ninja. She also took plenty of time to go over products with me -- everything from shampoos to serums to diffusers -- and I finally feel like I have a hairdo and the know-how to keep my head from looking like a nasty mop.

Eileen is the greatest! I used to go to Devachan (so expensive, and they would always scold me), but have been going to Beehive for the past two years after reading raves for their curly haircuts. Eileen really listens to what you're looking for and has helpful advice. My hair can be difficult to manage, but it always looks fabulous after a cut from Eileen. She also happens to be the sweetest person and just got promoted after 3 years at Beehive--still a serious bargain!

Watching Eileen cut my hair is amazing. It takes on a shape as she cuts each curl. She is really responsive to the style I want but adds in what she thinks will work best and complement my hair and face. She has great tips for styling and takes the time to explain and teach you little tricks to recreate the look at home. I drive all the way from massachusetts to have Eileen cut my hair - she is awesome!

This Salon was a great find! I had Ria as a stylist for my 2c/3a hair. I showed up with unruly wavy/curly hair and she cleaned it up BIG TIME. I love, love, love, love my hair now! The curls look gorgeous. The salon itself was super cute and they are open until 8pm for a convenient after-work cut. She never pushed any products and the cut was only $50! Smiles all around...

Hello, Fellow Curly Girls. I, too, had gone to Jeff for several cuts as Louie had taken a hiatus from Beehive. Jeff is wonderful. I agree with you all. As you've seen from previous reviews, he has gone elsewhere and I've found that Louie is back. Since being back, he is totally simpatico with the Curly Girl. I had some seriously damaged ends (I keep using Rusk AntiCurl. I Have to stop, I know... sometimes the curl gets too HUGE to manage...) and he cut almost all of it out giving me a length that grazes my shoulders and looks great. The only frustration I have is that he can get it to look silky and soft with healthy, curly bounce using Deva products, which I can't seem to do at home. But he did diffuse it and I think heat works well with Deva. Anyhow, if you want to try Beehive, ask for Louie. He listens, he won't overcut, he will give you guidance on your hair type and he's a hoot to boot!

I called Beehive last weekend to make an appt. with Jeffrey for my very curly haired friend who was visiting for a friend's wedding. They said he'd moved out of town. So I called my salon, Self Salon to ask for curly expert recommendations. It turns out Jeffrey is now with Self. He did an absolutely amazing job with her hair; she made a beautiful bridesmaid! We totally recommend him. Self Salon is at www.selfsalonbrooklyn, 718.599.1449(it looks like Jeff's bio isn't up yet, but he's definitely there).

I had my first cut with Jeff today, and he was phenomenal. He took the time to ask me what I want and need for my hair. I needed something light and fairly easy to keep up with, which is quite a demand for my 3c curls. He took off exactly the right amount of length and added layers that are in one word, perfection. I will definitely be going back to Jeff for my next curly cut!

I had my first cut with Jeff yesterday, and all I can say is he's awesome. I have very tight curls- 3C/4A. You know, the type of hair that manages me more than I manage it. I've had more than my share of bad cuts and was more than nervous when I walked into the salon. Jeff made me feel really calm and spent time asking me what I wanted. I loved that he was cautious with the cutting and explained to me everything he was doing. All I wanted was the ends cleaned up and some shape added. Jeff delivered and then some. I kept the length and walked out with beautiful layers I didn't think would ever work. After going to Devechan/Mario Diab for the past 6 years and Ouidad for 4 years before that, I'm so glad I found Jeff. The salon is a bit out of the way for me, but Jeff really understands curly hair and has been practicing the Devechan method for about 4 yrs now. The price was great, too. $78 including tax. Compared to other curly salons, it's a bargain. I can't recommend Jeff enough.

Hey everyone, this is Jeff from The Beehive Salon. Here we love taking care of the curly community. If your a first time client to our salon I'd like to give a couple of pointers to make your experience the best possible. First, on the day of your appointment come with your hair freshly styled and down in its natural fall. (We predominantly use the dry cutting method. This allows your stylist to see your natural texture, its spring factor, and how it will behave at its new length and shape.) So try to avoid putting it up on that day because it stretches your curls. Second, if your booking with me feel free to let the front desk know that you'd like to add an extra 15 min. to your appointment. Giving us time to go over a thorough curly hair education, covering health care and styling tips. And don't worry. All questions are welcome. I'm here to make your life easier. Thx! -Jeff

I went to the Beehive salon this past Saturday(10/22). I had an awesome experience. It was my first time going there so I wasn't sure what to expect. But Jeff was wonderful, pleasant, and very friendly. He gave me a trim, and some helpful tips on how to continue to take care of my hair naturally. I will definitely be going back.

I am a type 3c/4a I would say. I have gone to this salon twice once in Nov.2007 Casey was my stylist then. I LOVE her, I told her what color I wanted and showed her a picture and she got it right on the head. I also received a cut and love that too. Casey yes Great!! I want back Sept.2008, and Jeff give me a cut I LOVE him NOW too. I see some of the reviews on this site about not like the hair cuts they have received and I am sorry to hear that....BUT I most said I don't have a bad thing to say about this salon or stylist. I talk to the stylist about my want and dislikes when it comes to my hair. And what my idea was for my new hair cut. We even want over the hair product I use on the daily bases to help my curls stay healthy. I think the more you talk to your stylist and clearly communicate your vision or look.. the better off you will be. I am going back in oct. 2008 with stylist Jeff.. for a new color and I can't want. Every time time I leave the salon my hair is soft as cotton, great definition to my curls and a hair cut I Love!! -Angelina, BK, NYC

I'm feeling a little burned right now. I'm new to the city and needed to get my hair cut, so I was excited by the prospect of finding a good stylist in NYC. I researched and followed the recommendations on this site, but the stylists in the other reviews either didn't work there anymore, or only worked when I work. The receptionist said that Jeff is really good with curly hair, so I went with it. I had a clear idea of what I wanted--I even brought in a picture of a woman with graduated layers and bangs. Jeff cut my hair dry, which is nice, but he cut pretty much only two layers: short ones and long ones. I was confused as he was cutting my hair because he cut the ends of the curls blunt instead of angled. He spent almost two hours cutting my hair and, by the end, I wasn't very happy, but I just wanted to leave. This is seriously one of the worst haircuts I've had in a while and it was $65 plus tip. When I got home, I was embarrassed with my hair, so I blended the layers. It looks better, but I had to cut a lot off to blend into the really short layers. Now I've lost a lot of length and pretty much have a bowl cut.

I went to Beehive Salon looking for someone to even out my 4A curls, which I'd let grow under braids for about four years. Laura washed my hair with Devacare's No-Poo and conditioned it with One Condition, and detangled with KMS silk sheen Almond Basil leave-in conditioner, which is the first leave in conditioner that has deknotted my hair. She then took off all my dry ends and left me with some volume at the top. My hair now visibly curls up and I can now wear it in styles that aren't a ponytail!

Erin is amazing! I'm transitioning from relaxed hair to my natural 4a curls and followed the advice of the lady that recommended Casey to do the BC. Erin is also trained in curly hair and she took the time to listen to what I wanted and proceeded to cut my hair dry (yay!). She checked in with me while cutting and gave me green tea and magazines. Then they washed my hair with No-Poo and One C, and after being under the dryer for a minute, proceeded to style and refine my hair with Set It Free, B'Leave In and Angell. They're close, convenient and affordable! My cut was $50! And I'm definitely going back :D Their site is www.thebeehivesalon.com

Had a haircut appt on Saturday with Casey at The Beehive Salon in Brooklyn. Casey trained at Devachan, but is about 1/2 the price. The salon is adorable and everyone was relaxed and friendly. Casey totally knew what she was doing. I got talked into a relaxer about 6 weeks ago (my first and last!). I showed her my before relaxer pictures. She said my curls will bounce back, that they are still in shock and don’t know what to do. She usually cuts first, then cleanses, conditions and styles, but she wanted to get as much curl back into my hair as possible before cutting. So she first washed my hair with Low-Poo, conditioned with One C (leaving some in), and used Angell. She scrunched and scrunched and scrunched. At one point she had me leaning forward in the chair, head upside down, hair hanging down, while she got on her knees on the floor and scrunched up. SHE MADE RINGLETS!! She only took about an inch of length, which I don't even notice since it's still so much longer since the relaxer, and cleaned up the split ends and the little bits of hair that just want to be straight. When I left, my hair almost looked like it used to. Another cool thing, she said I probably wouldn't need a full haircut for 4-5 months, but that she does a "face framing trim" for just $25 if I need a little shaping sooner. I would definitely recommend Casey to any curly girl! Totally worth the trip to Brooklyn. And it's only a couple of subway stops into Brooklyn, very easy to get to.
