After reading all of the glowing reviews about Theresa, I decided to treat myself to what I expected to be an expensive cut and color. I took 1/2 day off from work & made sure that I showed up for my appointment about 15 minutes before my appointment since I didn't know if I would need to provide any info. in advance. I sat and waited. 5 minutes after the time of my appointment, I asked the woman at the desk if the stylist who I had an appointment was there, she said yes and that Theresa was finishing with a client. I continued to wait. The person who I soon discovered was Theresa, called the woman at the desk over to feel her client's hair because she had used OI shampoo on her hair. Meanwhile, she was flat ironing her clients hair but would stop to talk and tell her the difference in straightening products, formaldehyde free vs those with formaldehyde. 20 minutes after my appointment time, it was clear that she was in no hurry to get to me. I left and won't go back. Her time is valuable which is why I respected her time and arrived early, My time is valuable too and I felt disrespected.
I had such a wonderful experience at Mademoiselle! I had my first Devachan haircut 9 years ago, and have been a changed curly ever since. I have always had my hair cut in NYC at Deva, but since I moved to Philly, I wanted to find a place that knew how to cut curly hair there. I was nervous about having a new place cut my hair, but I heard from a co-worker that Mademoiselle was the place to go and that I HAD to have Teresa cut my hair. When I walked into the salon everyone was friendly and Teresa sat me down and asked about my hair routine. I appreciated her knowledge of a wide range of curly products and brands. I told her that Deva's One Condition made my face break out, so she suggested that we tried Kinky-Curly products (which I loved!) to style my hair for the cut that day. She made me feel completely comfortable and cut my hair like an absolute pro! She took her time and informed me about each step of the hair cutting/styling process, making sure that I was okay with everything. She gave me one the best hair cuts I have EVER had! She also graciously sent me an email a few days later to check up with me and give me a "how to style your curls" instructional sheet. I would highly recommend Teresa to new and veteran naturally curlies alike!
I visited Teresa for the first time last week after reading her glowing reviews on this website. I was hoping for a decent "curly cut" but, being a cautious sort of person, didn't have excessively high expectations. From the moment I walked into the salon, this salon experience was different from any others I have had. First my dry hair was spritzed with "Mister Right" and I was seated under the dryer for 5-10 minutes. Then Teresa sat me in her chair and asked me about my hair as she ran her hair through my curls and examined them. She then proceeded to cut it dry and color it. After two washings with Lo-Poo, I returned to her chair and was told to bend forward and allow my dripping wet hair to hang down. Teresa then began her magic with One Condition, ArcAngel, and two diffusers which she used simultaneously. The result was the curliest, softest hair I have ever had! Several days later I received her email which detailed how I could properly care for my curls. Although I ultimately bought the DevaCurl products she used on me, I never felt any pressure to buy them while I was at the salon. Needless to say, I have been very pleased with the cut and color which Teresa gave me and definitely plan to return.
Teresa was absolutely fantastic. Before dry cutting my hair, she sat down with me to discuss my hair, my daily routine, and my hair goals. As a new mom, I don't have much time to take care of my curls, so she made everything as simple as possible for me. My hair looked amazing for days - the compliments were nonstop! She even followed up a few days later to make sure I was satisfied. I'll definitely be returning.
I went to get my curls cut last week. Teresa was a super sweet and informative hair dresser. She told me what she will be doing to my hair & explained the products that were used. The results were phenomenal. My curls were shiny, healthy, and had the bounce I was craving to have all these years. Along the way Teresa shared some helpful tips so that I can achieve the same results. Unfortunately, I could not get my hair to look like how Teresa did. I am not sure what I am doing wrong. One thing I was a bit shocked about was how expensive it was to get the cut. Overall, I was a satisfied customer.
I had just about given up finding someone who could handle my hair. It was driving me crazy and stylist would just layer and cut. With very poor results. Friz Friz Friz. Upon my first visit to Mademoiselle Salon I was rather surprised when Teresa declared that my hair did not need to be cut for at least another 7 weeks! Teresa then proceeded with a curly hair tutorial. The real shock came when I was looking at a head full of beautiful curls after the tutorial was complete, and they were my own. I did not see a pair of scissors during the visit. Additionally, the next day Teresa sent me an email reviewing how I should handle my curly hair. I am very happy to say that I am actually able to do so. It looks and feels great. Teresa understood the curly locks and how to get the most out of them and I am so grateful. Thanks a million Teresa:) This customer is very satisfied!
I had my hair cut by Teresa several months ago and walked out loving the cut/style. She was able to create perfect ringlets, which I loved. However, over time the cut has grown out terribly. I have a chunk of hair above one shoulder that is several inches shorter than the rest of my hair, which looks awkward and quite ugly. I returned to have her fix this, and ultimately I think the problem was only made worse. I walked out of the salon the first time feeling great, but now completely regret this haircut. I went to Teresa several times (incl. for color), and every time she kept me waiting past my appointment time - not because she was cutting someone else's hair, but because she was eating and chatting with her coworkers. She also strongly encourages you to buy the Deva curl products, but I found these products to leave my hair feeling caked with build-up and dirty. I will not return to this salon.
Best haircut I've had in a long time. She actually listened to what I had to say and made me feel comfortable asking for specific things (often I'm too shy to say things like "it's a little too long over the ears" or something like that). My hair feels right. More right than it has in a long time. She sent me really great instructions and made sure I knew how to take care of my hair before I left. It's only been two days, but I love love love my cut so far. Yay!
I'm the only person in my family with curly hair, so all my styling knowledge has come from trial and error. I went to Teresa after reading her copious reviews on this site. My visit was more of a curly hair 101 tutorial than a haircut. When I arrived she asked me questions about how I feel about my hair, what I want from it, and how I went about my styling up to that point. She had my hair washed, then she showed me the wet styling curly hair process (she uses the DevaCurl line) and how to apply the leave-in conditioner and gels to my hair. I'm usually adverse to piling on the product, but Teresa really knows what she is doing and so I waited to see what the result was. She half-dried my hair and then started the trim. I didn't want much length taken off and after she had retrained my curls they were much tighter and thus, shorter than before. I didn't feel like there was much of a cut done to my hair, but I didn't want anything extreme done to it either. Overall: Teresa is great for women who do not know where to start with their curly hair. Additionally, I would trust her with my curly locks and would go to her if I ever decided to make a drastic hair change.
This was my first time to this salon...I've been on a ten-year search for someone who really understands my crazy, ethnically-mixed head of curls and appreciates them in their raw curly state. I found Teresa on this site, and she had so many good reviews (and free parking at the salon) that I figured it was worth a try. I liked it there right away. She explained what she would be doing and how she would be doing it as well. I got a cut, deep conditioning, and color done, and I have to say, I'm thrilled with the results. She cut my curls dry, which is exactly how curls should be cut, and she taught me how to properly apply styling products and diffuse my hair. Although she only uses Deva products at the salon, I felt no pressure to buy the products, other than how good my hair looked when she was done. I was also very impressed with the invitation to leave my email, so Teresa could follow up, and amazingly, she did! She sent me an email with detailed instructions on how to use the styling products I bought and make my hair look as good as it did the day I visited the salon. I followed her instructions from A-Z on New Year's Eve and my hair looked fabulous!!! Thank you, Teresa...I'll be back...
This was the best salon experience that I've had in a long, long time. It wasn't cheap, but I felt like it was an excellent value. Teresa did a great cut and color, but also educated me on how to care for my hair. I received an e-mail with tips on styling and care that I will use on my own. I will be back!
As a recent CG convert, I was looking for a Deva-trained stylist to shape up my hair. I decided to go to Theresa as her reviews here are absolutely glowing! My appointment was just over two weeks ago (9/16). The Salon was clean and welcoming. Everyone was very nice and didn't mind that I needed to bring my daughter with me. Theresa listened to my hair "history" and explained everything that was going to be done. The cut is great and, according to my sister and a friend, it takes about 10 years off of my face (a welcome compliment to this newly 40 gal!) I've gotten several complements about my curls and even a few people who notice something is "different", but not sure what it is. I'm loving my "new" bouncy curls! I did have one minor disappointment. Theresa was going to e-mail the instructions; however, I have not received them. Not a big deal because I have decided the diffuser is not for me (even using a diffuser, I get noticeably more frizz than air-drying), but it would have been nice to get the e-mail follow-up.
I had been searching for a stylist that I could trust with my seven year old daughter's curls. Luckily, my mother found naturallycurly.com and showed me the reviews that Mademoiselle Salon and Spa had recieved. I called and was able to get an appointment right away. The salon was very nice, and the staff were all very friendly. I requested an appointment with Teresa based on the reviews I had read, and I am very happy! My daughter has type 3C hair and I had been searching for a style that would allow her to wear her hair down and embrace her gorgeous curls but still have enough length to put it in a pony-if needed, and Teresa definitely delivered! Teresa was very knowledgable about the type of care my daughter's hair needs, she also gave me some wonderfully helpful tips to use at home and has emailed me general hair care tips for curly hair. I have already recommended the salon/spa to friends and family and I will definitely be returning to the salon in the future! Thanks soo much! -marianne
Had my first "curly cut" yesterday with Teresa, and am still looking in the mirror amazed! My curls are even more "springy" today than yesterday! Teresa explained everything she was doing, and assured me there would be no frizz when she was done- YAY! After she cut, she used a clarifying shampoo followed by a low-poo. Back to her chair and ready to style- she explained what she was using and what she was doing. Teresa then used 2 hairdryers and diffusers in order to maximize drying time. Boy was she right about everything- no frizz and way more curl! I was so amazed when I flipped my head back up and saw my curls/cut in the mirror- AMAZED! I told her I wanted to buy all of the products she had used- (I didn't care how much it would cost me, I wanted to achieve this look every day)! When she rang me up, I was shocked that the products were no where near as much as I was anticipating- I was waiting to hear it was an extra $100 for the product! Much to my happiness, the prices were just right and definitely worth it! (Looked it up online when I got home, and the product prices were very similar to online when you consider shipping costs as well!) I left and immediately called my husband- he always loved my hair curly, even when I fought to straighten it every day. He was excited to see when he got home! I also contacted a fellow curly girl to tell her all about Teresa, and she is hoping to see Teresa for her next haircut, too! Teresa is even going to email me directions of everything she did so I can continue this at home- can't wait to get that so I can continue on with these beautiful curls! I can't thank Teresa enough for changing my outlook on being a curly girl- and simplifying my life- very important with a 26 month old and 2 month old girl! Now if my girls inherit my curls, I will know exactly what to do and who to see- Teresa at Mademoiselle!
I just went to get my hair cut today. Teresa was great! She asked me about my hair and what I do to it, and told me what I should do. She also explained everything she was doing so I can do it myself. I really like the length and my curls are really bouncy and defined--totally different from when I walked in. Everyone there is very friendly. I also appreciate that I will get an email explaining how to care for my hair so I don't forget. I left with low-poo, conditioner, a spray to retract my curls, and a styling gel. I'm excited to use them. I highly recommend this salon for curly hair cuts! It really brought out the best my hair has to offer.
I have been going to Teresa for 10 years and never was my appointment canceled, nor did I have a less than awesome experience! I guess you can't please everyone and some people are just negative to the core. Sometimes service providers run a little late, and as long as I am called in advance and not waiting in the salon, office, etc. that is usually ok. With that being said, everyone I have encountered at Mademoiselle Salon has been very friendly, welcoming, and extremely professional. To the previous reviewer: I think if you and your daughter have been going to a stylist for years, and a slip up, or mistake happens and you love the cut, why switch stylists? We are human, we all make mistakes and as long as it's NOT a mistake on YOUR HAIRCUT, forgive, and forget. Teresa is like a daughter to me so forgive me for my opinion. It is so hard to find a stylist who really understands curly hair. I mean REALLY knows what to do and how to cut it. Other stylists may be "Deva trained" but how many of them do we really trust? Us curlygirls have been down a rocky road with our hair. I mean, I have been struggling with my hair for YEARS, and then I found Teresa. I have found my hair savior and that means more to me than a scheduling mishap!
DON'T COUNT ON YOUR APPOINTMENT ACTUALLY HAPPENING!! Theresa has been cutting my daughter’s and my curly hair for the past few years. I had an appointment a few weeks ago on a Saturday afternoon to have my hair colored as the gray was getting out of control. About an hour and a half before my scheduled time, the receptionist called to tell me she was cancelling my appointment. When I asked her why, she said that Theresa was running late and that “it just wasn’t going to happen”. I can't believe that I spent $95 per haircut at a salon that is so unprofessional and treats their clients that way. There are other salons in the area who have staff trained in the DevaCurl method and I would be surprised if they had the same "attitude". This was a really poor business decision for Theresa. BEWARE!
After years of a buzz cut, I decided to let me hair grow out. I fussed with it for about a year, and wanted to encourage my curl. Based on recommendations on this web site, I made an appointment with Teresa at Mademoiselle for a haircut. ( Remember that it had been years since I had been anywhere but a barber shop.) What a lovely experienced. Teresa looked at my hair and asked a bunch of questions, and told me cutting it would make it too short. I was surprised. She also asked if I had been running my fingers trough my hair. I had, and she said it pulled out the curls. She said she's show me how to take care of it, and after a low-poo, leave in conditioner, styling product, and a diffuser dry, I was shocked (shocked) at how curly my ringlets are. I don't think I've seen that much curl since I was six! I'm going back at the end of the summer to have to shaped a bit (right now, it's too short on top) and to see what products Teresa recommends for my longer hair. What a lovely Friday afternoon! She followed up with an email with instructions.
To think I actually have ringlet and not just frizz! I owe it all to Teresa and her patients in teaching me the right way to take care of my naturally curly hair. It is amazing what the right hair care products, a good diffuser and a great hair cut can do. Thanks Teresa
taken from my Yelp review: Have you ever had one of those haircuts that you love so much you can't stop looking at yourself in the mirror? One of those "best haircuts of my life" cuts? The "I knew my hair had potential but could never quite take it there" cuts? That's what I got from Theresa at Mademoiselle. I have curly hair and it needs the special touch of someone who knows curly hair. Enter Theresa. The first thing she did was ask about my hair, *listened* to what I said, and then proceeded to dry cut it. This is such a must because curly hair isn't the same when it's wet. Again, this is not straight hair (yet most hair stylists treat it the same). She snipped through each strand, judging it's health and determining where it should end. She then shampooed it (low poo, for those who follow the Curly Girl Method) and brought me back to the chair with dripping, wet hair. I leaned my head over as she finger combed it, put in conditioner and gel and then used a diffuser to dry it. I brought my head up and had this incredible mass of soft, bouncy curls. She placed the strands around my head and again took the scissors to the curls to make sure it all looked just right. All the while she educated me on the do's and don'ts of curly hair maintenance. I signed up for her to send me an email explaining what she had said. I generally don't spend more for my own cuts than my dog's (and, damn, dog haircuts are expensive) but this was so worth it. I left the salon and texted my friend, "so this is a $100 haircut and holy s#!t it's incredible!" Yes, that good.
This is the first Deva cut I've had and I love the cut. I am trying to grow my hair out but Teresa made the most out of the curl and length I have now (about chin length). She didn't cut into the length, just shaped my hair and gave plenty of education on the best way to care and style. I love a stylist that shares her techniques so that you can look your best all the time, not just when you leave the salon. To top it off, Teresa sent me an email with all of her Curl instructions and tips. I plan to go back in two weeks for highlights, which she already told me she uses a different technique to minimize damage and drying.
I have been struggling with my curly hair since my strait-haired mother used to brush it out every day as a child. I heard about the Deva Curl system from a friend and decided to try it. GREAT product line. I went to Teresa and could not have been happier. She was absolutely wonderful and patient with me. She started the appointment by asking me about my hair's life story. She walked me through the process of all the products she used, answering all my questions along the way. No you-tube video could have done that. She even sent me home with a printout manual of everything she had done that day. As mentioned in posts before, she does cut hair dry and curl by curl, and this means that if hair is worn straight, the cut won't be even. The price for the cut (and the educational session) was $95, plus another $100 I spent on product, which is a lot for a college student but having struggled with my hair for two decades it was completely worth it. Especially because she is so lovely to work with.
I saw Teresa for the first time three weeks ago and am amazed at what a difference it has made for my hair! Teresa is the first stylist I have ever visited (and trust me, I have seen many) who really understands curly hair and what it is about. Though I felt that my curly hair was in pretty good shape before, Teresa was able to create curl, volume, and style for my hair in ways I never imagined possible! My curls have never been so free, full, and defined! The wonderful thing about an appointment with Teresa is that it is about so much more than the cut (which was great). She really takes the time to educate you about products and how to care for and style your hair. I think the product and styling tips that she gave me were probably even more valuable than the haircut. She even gives you written instructions to take home with you! Thanks to the time that she took with me, I am able to recreate fabulous hair at home. I was a little unsure if I was willing to spend the $95 to see Teresa, but trust me, it is worth it. It has been three weeks since my appointment and I am still getting almost daily compliments on my hair. So many of my coworkers have commented on the difference in my hair and how good it looks. One of them even told me that my hair "was the talk of the second floor!" :) Other curly-haired girls have asked me what products I use. When others are asking you what you do with your hair, you know you must be doing something right! If you have curly hair, you should definitely give Teresa a try. I'm so glad that I did! I had a great experience with her and with everyone at Mademoiselle, and I've never felt so wonderful about my curly hair!
I am so disappointed with my Deva cut and my experience at Mademoiselle with Teresa. I would rate it no better than the Hair Cuttery but about 8x more expensive. First, the salon was dirty and I had to sit in clipping from prior clients. It also did not seem as though the scissors/equipment had been sterilized in quite some time. That is gross. On to the cut, it seems okay but nothing special. I told Teresa that I wanted a style, not necessarily Deva, that would work with my active swimming (3x per week) lifestyle i.e. low maintenance, wash and go. Teresa explained that the cut is all about the product - $75 - and how it is applied. My hair is above shoulder length and she put about 1/10 of the bottle of Deva conditioner in it to leave in. Then globs of gel that is all meant to stay in for days and reactiviated daily with more product! Drying my hair took 25 minutes using a diffuser on high heat. I can't imagine this is good for my hair nor do I want this styling commitment every time I wash my hair. Once my hair was dried, I put my hands in my roots and could not move them because of all of the product! I felt dirty. When I got home my kids, parents and husband were horrified and they are always so, so gracious. My hair was like wearing a wig or dreadlocks, I just had to jump in the shower. Teresa either did not care or could not deviate from her routine to customize Deva for me, something she should be able to do with the price she charges. Since my cut, I have gone back to using non-Deva products and styling as usual and things are much better. In discussing this with friends, they have all had the same experience. None of us would go with either Teresa, the salon, or the Deva cut again.
WOW!!!!!!!That is what I have to start with - WOW!!!!! I have had naturally curly hair all my life and have been to a million stylists who never could quite work with my curl and would ALWAYS blow it out straight. I was just about to give up on my frizzy, out of control "curly" hair and get it straightened when I read about Theresa. I finally decided to give it a try and I BEG all of my curly hair friends, before you get it straightened out of frustration, PLEASE see Theresa first!!!!! For the first time in 30 plus years I have fallen in LOVE with my CURLS, yes, beautiful, bouncy, shiny curls. Curls that other hairdressers told me I would NEVER get so I should just straighten. I have been told I would never have nice curls, etc. etc. I am so HAPPY that Theresa proved everyone wrong! I can't thank her enough for what she has done to my hair and confidence, my husband, kids, neighbors, etc. LOVE my hair! If you have curly hair - you are doing yourself a disservice not to at least try Theresa. Everyone at Mademoiselle was so nice. I felt right at home. They gave me undivided attention and all worked together as a team, which I loved. They all truly seem to like and help one another out a great deal and also make you feel welcome. THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU. I will see you again in 8 weeks! -Susan
I have a very busy life and need a style that is very low-maintenance. I moved to PA from NY several years ago. I was so attached to my previous stylist that I would go 6-8 months without a cut. When I would occasionally give in and go to someone local, I was never happy with the results, usually because the hairdresser would impose a straight hair "style" on to my wavy/curly/frizzy hair, assuming that I intended to "blow out" my curls. Yesterday I went to Mademoiselle Salon for a cut with Teresa. I am absolutely thrilled with the results. First of all, she really understands curly hair. Also, she is meticulous, but very down to earth. As she was cutting (dry) I could already see everything coming together and taking shape. When she was done, I was so happy I gave her a great big hug. I am excited to have found Teresa, and relieved that I no longer have to schlepp all the way to NYC for a fabulous curly hair cut.
I went to Teresa because I read so many great reviews on here. The price was a little out of my range ($95) being a college student but it was well worth it. I went in thinking my hair looked great but boy was I wrong. I was expecting each curl to be cut individually which didn’t happen but it still looked amazing. I had to get used to how short my hair looked with all the layers but my curls had never looked better. Teresa showed me how to care for my curls and when I repeated the process at home I got almost the same results. I now spend more time styling my hair after a shower but this cut gives me great second and third day hair without having to restyle. I would recommend Teresa to everyone.
I went to Teresa because I had read so many great reviews on here. I went into the appointment thinking my curls looked great but boy was I wrong. I was expecting to have each curl cut individually which didn't happen but the final result was still amazing. I had to get used to how much shorter it looked with the layers but my curls were the best I'd ever seen them. Teresa showed me exactly how to care for my curls and when I did that at home I got almost the same result. I have to spend more time styling my curls after showering than I used to but it's great how this cut gives me great second and thrid day hair without having to restyle. I would definitely recommend Teresa to everyone.
Back in December someone told me about the Deva cut and after months of deliberation I decided to try it out. All of my life I have hated my curly hair but over the last 4 years it has gotten even more curly. When I Googled Deva salons I found the Naturally Curly site and the salons closest to me. In order to do this I wanted to be informed and make an "educated" decision. So from there I read many reviews and made sure I selected a salon/stylist that had current reviews (within the year and not 2-3 years old). That lead me to Teresa and my research was worth it. I walked out saying to myself "Holy Crap I have curls and they look great!" On the way home I called the person that has been cutting my hair for the last 14+ years & who encouraged me to go for this type of cut. I told her how amazing the cut was and how soft it felt. Like the other people who have written in different reviews, Teresa took the time to educate me on how to take care of my hair and gave me a paper to take home so I wouldn't forget. As we all know any stylist makes your hair look great but the REAL test is when you have to do it on your own. The second day after my appointment it was a bit shakey but today I got it down a little bit better. I am amazed when I see my hair in the mirror. I wish I had known about this years ago but there is a time and place for everything!! I have gotten so many compliments and people want to know where I got such a great perm. My husband and kids love my new look. So thanks Teresa for the great work I would recommend her to anyone! You'll see me again!
I had my first cut at this salon yesterday. What a GREAT cut. What a wonderful experience. Kevin was an awesome stylist and curl "coach". I hadn't been able to have my hair cut in close to 2 years due to a severe illness. It was REALLY long. Kevin did A LOT of work cutting it and all with a smile and encouraging words. He was SO upbeat and enthusiastic. He maintained an awareness of some of my "special needs" from my condition without any need for me to remind him. Oh and did I say he gave me a FABULOUS cut? It looks amazing. I can't say enough good things about my experience. The staff was warm and welcoming and the environment of the salon was lovely. What a find! If you're looking for an extraordinary cut for your curls go to Mademoiselle salon & spa, you'll be so glad you did!
Teresa cut my hair while at Beans. It seems that unlike all but 1 of the other reviews here my experience was less than stellar. Not once but twice. My 1st appt. w/ her was to have my hair blown out straight and DISCUSS cutting my hair to show it's curls to their best potential. This was supposed to be a really nice treat for myself as I was preparing for DS1's 3rd Birthday party the follwing day and rarely got the opportunity to do something for myself. When I asked why they seemed to be prepping my hair for a cut when I was to be getting a blowout you could have about heard a pin drop in the place. Then I was asked why I would want to do that and was made to feel as if it were my fault that I was now cutting into the next persons time. I like to give 2nd chances especially as I'd read here that so many people had such wonderful experiences and everybody has a bad day so I kept the 2nd appt. that I'd already booked for a cut. Well I was 5 minutes late and I had an odd feeling walking through the door that they were probably talking about me. My cut was very uneven and what a previous reviewer said was wrong w/ her cut pretty much summed up everything wrong about mine. Maybe as a frumpy mom I wasn't deemed 'hip enough' to be treated better. I'm very glad so many of you got better treatment and better cuts - I know how hard it is.
I recently went to Mademoiselle for a hair cut. I have NEVER had a cut I was happy with and told Teresa my feelings. She went over everything that she was going to do before doing it and also taught me how to style my hair. She has been the only person I have gone to who actually made me smile when I saw the finished result. I went to Joseph once before and had a HORRIBLE experience. He is not only so crude and inappropriate, he also gave me a horrible cut. I was so upset with my hair and the amount of money I spent there. Teresa has made me realize that I do have beautiful curls, I just needed the right cut. She knew exactly what she was talking about and was reasonably priced. I have now found my salon that I have been telling everyone with curly hair, that they have to go here. I live in Philadelphia and from now on I will be traveling to Haverford for my hair cut. Thank you Teresa! She is sweet and very approachable, unlike Joseph who made some comments to me that made me feel so uncomfortable.
I recently got my hair cut by Teresa and I am in love with the cut. I have to admit that I was a little hesitant by how different it was at first, but Teresa gave me all the tools and the knowledge to take care of my cut and curls. I used to always wear my hair up, because it is usually too hard to manage. But, Teresa gave me a fabulous low maintenance cut that everyday I am loving more and more. I Highly recomend this salone and Teresa. I will be going back myself.
Two years ago my siter-in-law & my mother told me to "DO SOMETHING WITH YOUR HAIR..." So through this site I found Teresa and it is amazing the difference in my hair due to time and talent. Teresa worked with me & helped me to transform my unruly, short, non-style (she called it a mullet) into long curly locks. I never thought I could have long hair, let alone hair that I actually love. Teresa introduced me to the Deva product line, helped me through the process of growing my hair, but more importantly she taught me to appreciate the curls that I have for so long tried to hide. I have recommended Teresa to numerous other people and apologize for being remiss and not posting my comments before today. So if you are looking for someone who will listen to you & will study your hair & do wonders for your style do not hesitate - call her, make an appointment. She is a true talent.
i've finally found someone who really knows how to cut curly hair!! after years and years of going to stylists who cut my hair as if it were straight and blow dry it straight, i've found the answer! Thanks Teresa! Not only does she know curly hair inside and out, but she listens to your hair complaints and then educates you as she's cutting on how best to achieve the curls you want! This was the best haircut of my life and I can't wait to go back! Also... I'm not usually a big product girl, but I absolutely love the products they use and I've been using them religiously since I had my haircut a few weeks ago. They really work - even out of the salon! I can't say enough good things about the salon and Teresa's skills. I can't wait to go back!
i had my hair cut by teresa a few months ago and did not have the same good experience as other reviewers here. i was expecting a 'curl by curl' cut as described in the curly girl book, and also because it was mentioned that teresa has trained in the devachan method. my hair was cut dry, but not curl by curl. large pieces were pulled out to the sides and cut randomly. in the end, i had lots of uneven layers that were frayed and frizzy. i could not do much with my hair and went to another salon the following week to have the cut fixed. it was not worth the $90, and having to have my hair cut much shorter in the end in order to fix a bad cut.
I've been meaning to have Teresa cut my hair for about a year. Finally, I went today. I walked in with a rat's nest and out with the most beautiful curls ever. She is amazing! She didn't take have to take off the length, which was my biggest fear because my hair was so damaged. She was extremely professional, and the salon is beautiful. I am in awe and so grateful, I could cry. I was sent home with written instructions and ever so happy I have curly hair, like I've never felt before.
Seeing all the rave reviews, I had my first visit with Teresa in late October. I couldn't be more pleased. Teresa gives you her undivided attention and is very thorough in reviewing the CurlyGirl technique so you can master it at home. She was able to produce more curl in my hair than I've ever seen -- so much so, that several people asked me if I had gotten a perm! Teresa also does an exceptionally good job with color. My color is long-lasting, vibrant and shiny. I'll definitely go back. Actually, I've decided that I like to have versatility in my hair -- curly one day, straight the next. I think Teresa can give me a cut that will allow for both looks. I'd highly recommend her. Diva product salon....no Diva attitude. Gotta love it!
I had my first appointment with Teresa for a cut on 10-13-07. She had the Devachan training by Lorraine Massey herself. Teresa cuts hair dry, curl by curl; this is the Deva method. If you aren't used to having your hair cut dry, it can be a little unnerving at first! I was mostly worried that it wouldn't look even when she was done. The Deva cut is by no means a precision cut, but rather is tailored to your curl pattern. If you go, show up with your hair styled in its normal curl formation so she can see how your hair naturally falls. I am growing my hair longer, and Teresa didn't cut into the length. She did add long layers, which is what I expected and wanted. After cutting, I had my color done. Then, Kevin washed and conditioned my hair. They sell and use Deva products and also Alterna products. Teresa is great at diffuser blowouts. She had me bend over with dripping wet hair; she applied ISO bouncy creme and Deva Angell, showing me exactly how much to use. She diffused upside down until my hair was almost dry, then had me lean back on my chair so she could do the back. I had serious volume and bounce when she was done, and my hair was way curlier than I thought possible. When I styled it myself, I was able to repeat what she did in the salon (ok, not as well but almost!) I did notice that on my left side, there is a layer that is shorter than on the right. I doesnt make a huge difference, but this is the kind of thing you may notice with a Deva cut. The way she cut it definitely enhances my curl much more than wearing a "straight" cut curly. So, I highly recommend Teresa. The salon is very close to my house, which is a plus for me, but it is expensive. $95 for the cut and $85 for the color. Teresa says you only need to get cut every 3 months, maybe longer.
For years I've been frustrated by stylists who try to treat my hair as if it is straight! Upon the recommendation of two friends, I made an appointment with Teresa. When I walked into the salon, my hair was as dry as hay and as lifeless as a dead jellyfish. When I walked out, I felt like I was the most attractive, curly headed woman on earth. Teresa carefully explains products and how to care for your hair. The experience will change your life!
I had just moved to PA from Los Angeles for college and was in desperate need to find someone to cut my hair. I have always hated my curly locks and ended up putting relaxers in my hair. I found out about Teresa through this website and thought id give her a shot, plus her salon was ten minutes from campus. When i arrived there, everyone was nice and welcoming since it was my first visit. When i met teresa, the first thing that she said to me was "Hi Gia...Did you put relaxer in your hair?" I was busted!!!! She seemed disappointed that i did that to my hair (which i dont blame her for) In attempts to grow out the realaxer and bring out the natural curl she cut my hair from my mid back to my shoulders... My hair was never that short. As she began to style my hair she showed me what products to use, how much, and when. To tell you the truth, i wasn't so certain about the cut, but after she styled my hair, i loved it!!! I walked out of the salon with bomb and vivacious curls!!!! I love my haircut so much and cant wait to go back and get another one!!!!
I went to see Teresa today after many months of trying to figure out what to do with my heavy, thick, curly hair. I finally decided to give it a shot, and I am glad I did! Teresa knows how to treat and cut curls and my hair is now more managable. she cuts it dry, washes and styles it, and then cuts it again and gives you step by step instructions. I was apprehensive about the price (100.00 for my thick hair) but I have to say it is worth the hour drive I had from Lancaster Co. I will be purchasing the great products she used on my hair soon. Teresa made me feel at ease and was very nice and professional. Don't deal with the frizzies any longer! Go see Teresa!
After reading all of the great reviews on this website, I finally went to see Teresa this past Monday and she didn't disappoint! My hair has never looked this good. I kept saying to Teresa - I can't believe this is MY hair!!! Teresa sent me home with written instructions on how to properly care for my curls along with a list of the products she used so that I didn't have to purchase them then and there - which was a nice touch. Now I just have to go shopping to get all of the tools to keep my hair looking great!
I found out about Teresa via this website and decided to take a chance on it. Little did I know that Teresa would turn out to be a former 6th grade student of mine. This time the tables were turned and I was the student and she was the educator. Not only did she give me the best hair cut I've ever had with the bouncy curls I've always wanted, but she gave me a knowledge of how to properly maintain and manage them. Teresa's salon is all about style, sophistication and intelligence- a great reflection of the owners (Teresa being one of them). I am proud of her and know that she will continue to be a great success!"

I just had my first appointment with Teresa, I have to say that my hair has NEVER looked so good! I have not worn my hair down in over four years because I hated the way it looked, now I can't stop looking in the mirror at my curls. She was interested in what I wanted my hair to look like and she took the time to show me how to style my hair. I love my new cut!!!!
Amazing! My hair was literally a bird's nest, and she was able to transform it into beautiful curls. I highly recommend Teresa to anyone with curly hair who is in need of help.
Just went to Teresa's salon in haverford and I have to say first what a fantastic salon! It is relaxing, which is calming to some of us curly girls who are nervous to begin with! The colors and ambience are soothing and the curly cut I had is looking fabulous weeks after she cut it! I know this is a curly site but I have to mention the other owner Julia. She is an artist! She reshaped my squirmy looking brows so when they grow out they will look natural! She uses chocolate wax for people with sensative skin. Do not hesitate to get a total makeover here for curls and skin care! For the first time I am loving the way I look!
I just went to Mademoiselle salon and aps and had a fabulous experience! Firstly, the salon is absolutely gorgeous! Perfect location and convienient parking! I had my first cut with Teresa and she taught me exactly what to do with my curly. I also had my eyebrows and makeup done by Julia. Talk about perfection! I can't wait to see them again!
I walked away with a great haircut AND a lesson on what I should and should not be doing to enhance my curls. Prior to my cut, my curly hair would be dead and lifeless by the end of the day - now my curls stay fabulous all day long. I've always ended up with cuts that look good when I leave the salon but I can never recreate it once I'm home doing it myself - not anymore! Teresa walked me step by step of what to do to achieve the same look from home. I had a great experience!!!
It was heavenly. It was scary in the way perfection is scary- where everything that is happening is new and beyond your wildest dreams- she does everything you always wanted and never thought a stylist would actually do to your curly hair and it was just, incredible. I mean, she diffused my hair upside down! Just like curly haired girls do at home! I like wanted to worship her. Best haircut I've ever had. I am in love with my hair!!
I found Teresa on this site and went to see her yesterday. She is everything everyone says about her! I am letting my hair grow and I went to her so she could aim it in the right direction. She cut my hair dry which is something I've wanted for years. It makes perfect sense for curly hair. She explained everything to me and sent me home with directions and lots of fun new products from the Devacurl line. For the first time in too many years I feel that I've found someone who understands curl hair.
For years I did not know how to style my curly hair...I used to brush it which would brush out the curl leading to more frizz and not pretty curls and pull it back wet. I have been seeing Teresa for about a year now and could not be happier. She not only knows how to work with my curls, but she is passionate, taught me how to style my hair, leaving it looking good everyday (making me happy) and taught me the correct products to use. Anybody with curly hair knows you need the right stylist and cut in order to have hair you can feel proud of, to anybody in the area I recommend Teresa. She is a curls best friend!
Just had my first haircut with Teresa and what a fabulous experience! She knew just how to shape my curls without taking too much off the length! I rarely ever get haircuts, in fear the stylist will take too much off. Now my fear is gone because I found my curly girl!
For years I have been walking out of beauty salons after color and cut with my hair sopping wet rather than let the stylist try to do anything with it. I had given up on trying to find a stylist who knew how to deal with my curly frizzy hair. Even a trip to new york to a specialist made me feel intimidated and ineffective at using their line of products for curly hair. i was letting my hair air dry which took all day with not so great results. i found teresa on this website and was amazed that she was able to style my hair with curls and practically no frizz, and I can walk out of the salon dry! and now i can do it myself, too, thanks to her guidance and the awesome Deva products she turned me on to. she's also very skilled at color! i'm happy curly girl now and highly recommend teresa.
I made an appointment with Teresa after reading all of her great reviews on the Naturally Curly site. She was nice, open, very informative, and unlike anoter so-called curly specialist, totally sane! If you live in the area and have curly hair, I would definitely give Teresa a shot. You won't be disappointed.
Found Teresa here at this site and very glad I did. Teresa is a great stylist and enjoyable person. You get 100 percent of her attention while you are at the salon. I am loving my curls for the first time in my life and I no longer fight with them. She SHOWED me how to care for and style my curls and what product to use. I got a written discription to follow when I got home. This was my first cut with a curley hair specialist and I'll never go anywhere else, there is truely a difference.
I found Teresa on this website and I went to see her for a trim. My thin, curly hair was about 2 inches longer than my shoulders when I entered the salon. Teresa either did not have the knowledge that curly hair curls up when cut or she had her own agenda and just wanted to cut all my hair off. When I left the salon my hair was at least two inches above my shoulders and looked terrible. I do not recommend getting a haircut with Teresa.
I would highly recommend Teresa for curlies!!! She is FANTASTIC!!! And this is coming from a girl who has personally experienced the curl-expert NY salons. Teresa is trained and totally familiar with the Devachan & Ouidad methods, combines techniques and out comes a cut with style so versatile you can even wear it straight to change life up a bit. Gotta love that!!! My 1 1/2 hour commute is worth it...Thanks Teresa!
Found the salon via the DevaCurl website. Found Theresa via google. She is fabulous! Cut's curls dry, which just makes sense. :-) She has colored my hair twice (highlights, lowlights, reds), and I am more than pleased! I was so excited the first time she cut and volored my hair I couldn't tell enough people. I've been recommending her to everyone! She's so knowledgeable - told me not to use terry towels as they can cause breakage. I never knew this before! :-) I definitely recommend her. I just hope she doesn't get too busy so I can still get an appointment to get my hair done! ;-)
