Love the salon. Love the owner. Love what she did with my hair. Got great color, a good cut, and help with styling tips. Worth the drive.
I visited Beauty Villa today, and am so glad I made the trip--it's kind of far for me to drive. I started out by getting lost and arrived late to the salon. Despite this stressful beginning, Denise was warm and friendly, and her little dog sweet and adorable, so I went from tense to relaxed almost as soon as I stepped in the door. She did a fantastic job on my hair. It was the first time I had had a haircut from someone who really knows curly (well, in my case, wavy) hair. The fact that she uses CG-friendly (Deva) products is of course another huge plus. She cut my hair wet and showed me the right way to use clips when drying (here I've been doing it wrong all along). When I left, my hair was still a bit damp and crazy, but it dried into a lovely style, and my waves have never looked so good! (So happy, because I had something to go to tonight, and it looked great!) I will definitely be back--I was completely thrilled with the experience. Can't wait to see how my cut grows in. Be advised that Beauty Villa only accepts cash or checks.
Very nice...quiet salon, which I liked. She took time in talking with me. Got a nicely shaped cut, but hair was cut wet and ended up much shorter than I was expecting around my face. Nice style, but I didn't feel my curl spring factor was compensated for enough.
I had my haircut by Denise. She uses the Devachan haircut techniques. She is very knowledgable and uses the devacurl line. She showed me how to use clips to give me volume on top.The salon is nicely decorated and feels professional but homey. Denise was very friendly. The salon is close and prices are reasonable. I'll definitely be going back.
Fabulous!!! Denise is thee best at understanding culy hair and helped me to embrace my curls! Her daughter Cara is very sweet and dons a beautiful head of lucious curls. For the first time in my life I love my hair!
I went to the salon on February 11, 2010. It was a great experience and the first salon I had gone to that actually understood my hair and styling methods! I got my hair cut dry and it was super cute when it was all done. I am 14 years old and my little sister, who is 11, also came. Her wavier curls were cut wet and it looked better than it ever has! (she still needs to embrace her curliness). The only thing that I did not like were the Deva products. They felt hard and gross in my hair. I will be sticking with Ouidad! Overall, the cut was great. Thank you Denise!
I went to this salon after seeing it on this site. I visited on December 3, 2009. Dennis was amazing. They used the low poo from Deva Curl. She cut my hair wet as it was the first time she had seen me and said she wanted/needed to see how the curls laid when wet. She will cut it dry the next time. I had a great time at the salon. Denise and her daughter were very helpful. They showed me how to clip up my hair to get volume on top. We discussed what I wanted to do with it, and they were very positive that I could achieve what I wanted once my hair grows a little; its about 3 inches long now.
After a particularly bad haircut I decided to give this salon a try and I am very pleased. Denise took her time and explained what she was doing and how to style to achieve the look at home. My hair looks thicker and curls look more natural and refined. Her daughter was at the salon and has gorgeous curls as well!!! She was extremely helpful and friendly as well. I will definitely return in 12 weeks for another cut!!! Thanks so much!!!
This is the second time that I've gone to Denise to get my hair cut and she was great both times! She did a fabulous job on my cut. She listens to what you want, makes suggestions and is extremely friendly. She cut my hair wet due to the length (it was tailbone length when curly). She gave me tips on how to clip my roots. I highly recommend going to see Denise for your curly hair needs.
I was looking for someone in my area to cut my 3b curls using the Devachan method (cutting curly hair dry). I found Beauty Villa, in the Pittsburgh/Turtle Creek area, on the naturallycurly.com website and am delighted! Today was my second appointment. Denise is a terrific stylist and very warm and friendly. She took her time and looked over my hair and asked me questions about how I care for and style my hair. She picked up individual curls and cut them one at a time. When she was through, I could see already how much she had shaped it up and how much fuller it looked. She carries the DevaCurl line of products so after my cut I was no-pooed, one-conditioned, angell-ed and defused. She showed me some tricks for coaxing the curl in the direction I wanted it to go and gave me a lot of other helpful suggestions like using hair clips to lift the roots on the crown of my hair while it dries. My hair looks better each time she cuts it, I am really glad I found Denise and would recommend her to all the curly girls in the area.
On the recommendation of another NaturallyCurly post, I went to Beauty Villa (in the Churchill area) for a Deva style cut. While my hair was dry, Denise examined each individual curl and carefully trimmed off all the damaged ends. She and her daughter also gave me a really great tutorial on how to clip my hair at the roots to create more lift. Then I got no-pooed, one-conditioned, angell-ed, and clipped, then sat under a hood dryer, with some final finishing touches with a diffuser. It was a great experience, both in terms of the cut and the education about curly hair care. And the price was very reasonable ($28). Needless to say, I'll be back.
I found this salon on Devachan's website listed under authorized vendors. I went to the salon to buy some product and found out that they can also do cuts, having been trained at a workshop by Devachan. Denise's daughter was lucky enough to be one of the hair models. I had recently made the switch to CG, using the Devacare line. I was interested in the cut, although a bit worried about how a dry cut would turn out. Denise took her time, explaining what was going on. It was interesting to see her pick up each curl, look at it, and then decide if and how much each curl needed trimmed off. Afterwards, my hair was a little mussed from the handling, so I got pooed (or no-pooed in this case) clipped, and sat under a bonnet-style dryer. I hadn't used the clips to hold up hair before this, so it was interesting to see how that worked. I really couldn't tell that I had much length taken off (I'm just above BSL), but I did have more curl definition, and the funky ends of the curls (whrere the spiral ended and turned into a funky diagonal pattern) were cleaned up. The price was more than reasonable at $28! I could probably use another in a few months to catch any new end problems. I believe that another stylist there had been Deva-trained also, but I didn't catch her name. All in all, a very positive experience, and I'll be back. It's in the Turtle Creek area, so it's good for those in the eastern suburbs who aren't in the mood to go into town or to Shadyside.
