Amemus's Latest Salon Reviews

Lofty Boutique Salon Spa - Vienna, Virginia, United States
Stylist:
Mona Harb

Jan 18, 2011 - I wish I could say that my experience at Lofty was comforting and that I walked away with a fantastic new look. But I can't. I decided to go to Lofty based on the reviews on this site. I didn't find anything particularly comforting about the experience. Perhaps I caught Mona on a bad day; she seemed kind of upset. She did mention that her assistant was out sick and so she had to do everything herself. But she didn't really seem busy at all. A warning to those who like their hair long: I think Mona is a bit scissor-happy. I guessed as much from what was already posted here, but I boldly decided to let Mona cut my hair in whatever style she thought was best because she had gotten such great reviews. Mona herself has awesome short curly hair. So I went from BSL hair to halfway between APL and SL. I guess she did a good job on the cut, but I wasn't happy with the way she styled it at all. One thing I did get out of this haircut was information on my hair's properties, which I've had a hard time figuring out.. although I'm a little unsure about her advice because she was telling me my scalp is greasy and that my hair is of medium density, and it doesn't look like that to me at ALL. And the biggest surprise: I told Mona I had been on the Curly Girl method for a month, and she gave me a confused look and said, what's the Curly Girl method? I would have thought that a stylist who has been recognized on nc.com would know what CG is! I said it means I don't shampoo my hair, and then she knew what I was talking about. Then she told me that the method probably wouldn't work on me because I have medium-textured hair. So I'm sad to say I'm still looking for the right stylist for me. Perhaps Mona is best for short, type 3 hair.

Stylist:
Alyssa

Jan 07, 2011 - I had this haircut long before I learned about CG, so I didn't know what to ask for. I told Alyssa that I straightened my hair, and that I wanted to try styling without heat but I didn't know any other way to get rid of my frizz. I came to the salon a frizzy mess to make it very clear what the problem was. Well, I guess Alyssa knows something about curly hair because she introduced me to Deva Curl products and she taught me how to set my hair by twisting sections of my hair around my finger. But the end result was a disaster. She somehow managed to make my hair frizzier than it has ever been before. I was so horrified, I didn't know what to say when she finished, so she said, "Do you like the body of it, at least?" I said yes--it did have a nice shape I guess, but it was hard to tell underneath the grungy frizz. The salon itself looked very nice. I was offered a drink when I came in and I got a complimentary head massage for being a first-time customer. I picked this salon because it looked fancy and wasn't too expensive, but in the end it was a waste of money.
