Miss Jessie's Jelly Soft Curls

Jul 10, 2014 - I tried this product as an alternative to Pillow Soft Curls. Pillow Soft Curls has become my styler of choice. It delivers gorgeous, defined, soft curls every time. I do not usually use gels because my hair is so dry, and they seem to suck the moisture right out of my hair.I figured that Miss Jessie's Jelly Soft Curls would be the same, but I was wrong. I bought this because I wanted something that would add volume, make my hair big and temporarily 'cancel out' my dominant curl pattern (I have 3b 'S' pattern curls at my roots and towards the middle section of my hair whereas the ends are tightly curled 3c ringlets. My 'evil' patch at the nape of my neck is probably a 2a and doesn't curl at all to till the very ends, and for some reason, that one damn section is CONSTANTLY forming dreadlocks. It's very odd). I love Pillow Soft Curls, but I do not always want a defined curl. Sometimes I want the 3b section to take over. I've figured out how I have to use this gel. If I use this gel for a wash-n-go, I will not like the results. My hair dries in a strange shape and still retains its dominant curl pattern. What I learned is that I need to use this gel after a wash-n-go but i MUST braid my hair and leave it in a plait for at least a day. After I remove the plait and pick out my hair with an afro comb-BOOM. There it is, exactly what I wanted-moisturized, soft, big, voluminous hair. I normally do not get big hair, even when I use a pick, but for some reason with the Jelly Soft Curls, I did. I used coconut oil underneath the gel as a leave-in and spritz the plait with water at night and then once in the day. I am so, so pleased with this product. I did not use a conditioner because I had heard that Jelly Soft does not play well with other leave-ins. The coconut oil helped me a lot with moisture, I just used it very lightly. I cannot speak to a hold because I do not pay attention to things like that. LOL! Where I live it's not humid, I have to worry about sea-fog. But I really appreciate the Jelly Soft Curls. I got great results-oh and my hair did not shrink!!! LOVE IT.

Herbal Essences Naked Cleansing Conditioner

May 27, 2014 - I did not expect to like this co-wash, but suprisingly, I do! I am a sucker for anything minty or tingly smelling, and I love the smell of this. It smells like rosemary mint with a couple of drops of lavender added to balance out the super 'clean and refreshing' scent. I am beginning to suspect that I may need to follow a modified CG routine, since EVERY SINGLE TIME I use a product with silicones in it, my hair does amazingly well. The products I like best (TreSemme Naturals Nourishing Moisture, Aussie Moist, etc) all seem to provide my hair with a layer of moisture it just cannot hold onto without some sort of 'cone' in it. My hair does not retain moisture well at all. I'm not sure if the HE Naked actually cleansed my hair all that well, but I really wouldn't know the difference to begin with since I rarely shampoo my hair (maybe once a month), I just wanted something that would add moisture. My hair has an extreme dryness problem. I used this product and then co-washed with Trader Joe's Tea Tree Tingle, then followed my normal routine of applying leave in, oil, and a styler. The result was gorgeous defined curls that have bounce, volume and body-AND 2 days later, my hair isn't dry as a bale of hay. I will definitely be using this product again and using a clarifying shampoo every two weeks to reduce buildup.

ORS Curls Unleashed Take Command Curl Crème

Jun 23, 2013 - I got this on sale for $2 at Walgreens. It was on clearance. This product does not contain parabens but it contains silicones and dimethicones. However, it has some natural ingredients high up on the list, and it promised to define and elongate my curls. Elongation is my problem, because my hair shrinks up A LOT. I was pleased when this product actually did what it said it did. I used it in combo with Shea Moisture Shea Butter & Argan Oil Reconstructing Conditioner (a mistake since now whenever I use this conditioner it tends to leave my hair feeling greasy and coated) and some Jojoba Oil. I did a half-braid out and curled the ends with perm rods and loved my hair the next day. Defined, beautiful curls with ELONGATION, but the only problem was that my hair was left so, so, so weighed down and greasy feeling. I washed it out and tried again (minus Jojoba and instead using Say Yes! To Carrots Leave in Conditioner) and got the same results. This also seemed to increase my shedding. Every day that I would run my hands through my hair to give it more volume and break up the curls (I like the slightly frizzy, messed up look) I would find long, long strands of hair clinging to my greasy, residue replete hands. Gross. It seems like EVERYTHING is too heavy for my baby fine curls. I'm going to try the Cantu Shea Butter Leave In Conditioner as a styler and see if that works-otherwise i'll try to find ways to work with this because it is honestly the only thing that has given me results that i'm even slightly pleased with.
