SheaMoisture Coconut & Hibiscus Curl Enhancing Smoothie

Aug 30, 2015 - This is one of the worst products I have ever tried on my 2c/3A hair. My hair is high porosity (since I color it) medium density and on the dry side. This made my hair sticky (ugh!) stiff and greasy at the same time. I tried using the tiniest amount, I tried it over conditioner - total failure. I used a sulfate shampoo to be sure I got all of it out. If you want to try it, I suggest the travel size. Luckily, that's what I got so it wasn't too much of a waste.

Aveda Brilliant Anti-Humectant Pomade

Apr 18, 2015 - This is the best pomade I've ever tried, and I've tried plenty! It adds shine and reduces frizz. It is much lighter than others I've tried so it doesn't weigh my hair down or look/feel greasy. I used a tiny amount on my almost dry hair hoping to fend off frizz. It worked! I plan to try it on damp hair the way another reviewer suggests. Highly recommended!

Bumble and bumble Super-Rich Conditioner

Jul 07, 2013 - I love this conditioner. Very rich and creamy but doesn't leave my hair weighed down. Definitely will re-purchase despite the price.

Leslie Ellen Curly Hair Salon - New York, New York, United States
Leslie Ellen Abbate

Aug 01, 2015 -

My highest recommendation!!!  Leslie Ellen surprised me with her honesty. She looked at my crappy looking hair, said my haircut was fine and I didn't need a haircut - even though that was what I was booked for! She said my method of coloring my hair was killing it and that no haircut from ber or anyone else would help as long as I continued what I was doing.

Well - I was astonished. She was talking me out of paying her for a haircut! Then she told me how I could continue to color my hair without more damage. Long story short - she gave me a clarifying shampoo to get rid of the bad chemicals from the color and gave me a haircut to clean up the damaged parts - which turned out fabulous.

Leslie Ellen - thank you!!!!! I recommend her without reservation to anyone in NYC. By the way, she has perfect 5/out of 5 recommendations on Yelp, Google, and here on (I will cross post this to our forum on salons).

Hair Rules Salon - New York, New York, United States

Jul 17, 2014 -

Dickey gave me a great cut again! I think he is a better stylist than anyone else I've seen in NYC - and I think I've seen them all.

I got a dreadful haircut from someone else recently and I couldn't make it work no matter how hard I tried. I fried my hair with heat tools trying to deal with it. It looked worse than it's looked in years.

My hair is 2c/3a. One thing that Dickey does differently from others is that he doesn't twirl my hair or rake and shake. He makes sure the hair is dripping wet and applies mousse. Then he just places it gently with a wide tooth comb - not combing it, just lifting it in places.

The salon is bright and airy and the staff was very pleasant to me. The shampoo is a cleansing cream - totally cg, no sulfates.

I'm so relieved that my hair looks pretty again. I will return when it grows out. I got a 20% discount because I'm a senior citizen but the staff teased me that I looked like a teenager. The haircut definitely took years off - not quite to the teen years but youthful. I'm very pleased with it.

Alex Anthony Salon - New York, New York, United States

Mar 23, 2014 - I returned to Alex for my second visit and asked for a much shorter cut. She is very talented and friendly. I 'm very excited by the cut I got - it's modern and soft looking at the same time. Alex used the rake and shake method and mousse. Their Revive leave-in conditioner is the best I've tried, and I've tried them all! I hope I can duplicate what she did and I'll be very happy. I'm excited by my new haircut. Go Alex!
