- Kym Chartrand

I first started seeing Kym when she was at Maximus in Hermosa Beach after doing a search for Diva-certified stylists. That was around 2008. I followed her when she moved away from the neighborhood and opened Salon of Curls on Bay Street in Santa Monica, and now she has her Salon of Curls at Scissors on Main St. in Santa Monica. I will follow her anywhere and I just hope that she never retires (fortunately she’s quite a bit younger than meso she should be around for a while)!
Kym did have Diva training but her talent goes beyond that. She is a creative person and she is literally an artist (she paints and writes)and her artistic eye makes her an amazing curly hair stylist AND colorist. Kym always does a dry cut and she not only has perfected the technique to properly cut curly hair but you will never leave the salon feeling like it’s too short or she did something you didn’t want because she listens to you.
Kym uses ammonia-free organic hair color and she really does an outstanding job covering my gray roots and in particular, with pintura highlights (where she “paints” individual curls with the color). Since I’ve been having her do highlights, I get so many compliments, not only from women but men as well-- and from strangers!
Kym pretty much exclusively uses Deva products to keep things simple for clients. I am a bit of a PJ so I experiment and use a lot of different products on my own but I do use some Deva so I’m good with that. I am a 3C wavy but I’ve seen Kym work on ALL types of curly hair and they all look amazing when she’s done. She uses the Deva “green hand” to dry and style and you will always walk out of the salon looking fantastic. Plus, Kym is just “good people.”If you are any kind of a curly, you cannot go wrong with her.
