Sep 09, 2011 - I would follow Ivy to the ends of the earth. Since she's been cutting my hair, I've actually for the first time in my 30something years LOVED my 3b/c curls. I finally feel like I have some style and not just a cookie-cutter curly poofball. She is a pleasure to chat with, never pushes products and spends so much time and consideration finding out what you want and then executing it meticulously. If she ever tries to leave the salon she won't get very far because I'll be clinging onto her ankle.

Sep 09, 2011 - I am a die-hard Madusalon fan, but I live in Oakland, and happily make the trek 4x/year for the best haircuts ever from Ivy. However, I just had a baby and can't be too far away since I'm nursing, so I booked an appt with Laura on NC reccomendations. Firstly, I was disappointed to see how totally un-stylish all the salon workers are. I don't know if when I described 'edgy' any of them would have any idea what I was talking about. One of the stylists was wearing hiking books and another was in running shoes and a hoodie. Really? These are your work outfits? The whole atmosphere is FRUMPY from the decor to the stylists to the background music so I didn't have high hopes going in. Laura is a nice lady, and she does do the deva cut. It wasn't a bad haircut, per se, but it had absolutely no style or personality - just looked like a regular layered curly hair cut. It's fine, if you are relatively conservative and you don't mind having kinda poofy, round hair. It's also about half the price of Madu. However, I cannot wait to get back to Madu to get my style back.
