May 04, 2010 - I did not plan to comment on my experience at Helmet, but I have gotten multiple compliments from my co-workers today. I went to Malaika to get my (3c/4a) hair cut because the reviews that I read said she could cut hair in it's naturally curly state. My other stylist, while talented, always straightened (blow dry/flat iron) my hair before cutting and as a result they were not addressing the various types of curls/coils on my head. Some of my curls are very loose and others are very tight. When I sat in the chair I told Malaika my concerns and she did an excellent job. My curls now appear more uniform and the looser curls are blending in with the tighter curls/coils. My only concern was that she did not have products for tighter curls (3c/4a) to style my hair, so I left out of there looking a little crazy. I could tell the cut was good though, so it wasn't that big of a deal to me. She did tell me that I could bring my own products and she would apply them for me. Overall I had a decent experience at Helmet, but do wish they would accommodate all of their clients and have a broader range of products for various hair types. As a stylist Malaika was pleasant and accommodating. She listened to me and then delivered a cut that suited my face and my lifestyle.
