Feb 25, 2011 - After years of false promises from supposed "curly hair specialists," I finally came across this website. I actually stumbled upon it b/c I was looking for advice and tips on applying a chemical relaxer to our 11yr old daughter's hair. She hated her poofy hair and, to be honest, I hated wrestling with it every morning. I told her I would research chemical relaxers and see what I could come up with. It only took about 15min on this site to realize I was about to make a MAJOR mistake. Then I found info on The Styling Hutch. We had been to a few "specialists" and left their salons pi$$ed off b/c what they promised was not what they produced. So I researched The Styling Hutch and everything I found and read was positive. So I scheduled an appointment with Karen. On the day of her appointment, I was instructed to comb as many tangles out as possible and that the whole visit would be atleast an hour. When we walked in, I immediately felt relief. All the chairs were full and a majority were curly heads. Their products were obviously geared toward curly/dry hair and I didn't hear one blow dryer, the enemy of curly hair. Karen sat us down and asked why we came. I explained that our daughter needed a trim and to "de-poof." That I knew the basics of taking care of her hair - that getting product on as much hair as possible was key, shampooing more than once a week was a bad thing, etc - but could not figure out how to make the "poof" go away. Karen began telling me about the Ouidad cut. Now I will say.. I went in with ZERO intention of spending that much on a hair cut and I told her this up front. She, in no way, tried to sell me the Ouidad cut. She simply explained how it works and told me regardless of the choice I made - Ouidad or regular - that I would see improvement in my daughter's "poof." I chose the Ouidad cut. Mainly b/c I was so set on eliminating as much frizz & poof as possible but also b/c the way she explained it just made sense. And she flat out guaranteed that I would not be disappointed. After trimming and Ouidading (if that's even a term), she showed me how to correctly style my daughter's hair so she could leave it down w/o it poofing out. I have never seen my daughter SO excited about her hair (except this one time she had it straightened but it started to poof out with 30min and that excitement quickly dissipated). The Ouidad cut really did eliminate the poof. I was so impressed! I waited a week to write a review. I wanted to make sure that it wasn't a false excitement. I'm sure we're all too familiar with the next-day disappointment. That is not the case. I have successfully styled my daughter's hair just how Karen taught and had the same results as she did. Our daughter can now confidently wear her hair down w/o the aggrevation of it getting out of control. And to add to it, she didn't even push their styling products down our throat. I was already familiar with the product line Mixed Chicks, as I've used that in our daughter's hair in the past. It is an awesome product, but kinda pricey. She completely understood where I was coming from and suggested, when we had the cash, the products that she felt would work best in our daughter's hair. The Ouidad cut is not an every 6 week cut. It is as-needed, maybe twice a year. While it is a lot more than I've ever spent on a haircut, the amount of time & frustration it eliminates, not to mention the fact that our daughter is now PROUD of her curls and not ashamed, it is WELL worth the money. GO TO THE STYLING HUTCH!!
