Chelsea J

Chelsea Johnson is a PhD candidate in sociology, specializing in race, gender and embodiment. Her dissertation research examines how women of African descent negotiate a politicized trend of wearing kinky-curly hair with demands by employers, romantic partners and family members. She has interviewed women with natural hair in Los Angeles, Atlanta, New York, Paris, Amsterdam, Johannesburg and Cape Town for her work. Chelsea loves having conversations about feminism, social justice and black culture inside and outside of the academy.
