You hear a lot of "what did you put in your hair?" and "I love your shoes!" around the NaturallyCurly offices. Personally I am always finding inspiration in what my colleagues are wearing to the office and on their Instagrams, so we're starting a new series to share what we're loving with the rest of our community - beyond our hair!
What I love about fashion is that no matter how trendy certain styles are, classic style never fades. For example, pinstripes made a huge comeback this season and I couldn’t resist the urge to rock it! I chose to wear this one shoulder red pinstriped top, white linen capris with ruffle details and black pom pom pearl flip flops. I got the entire look from Beehive and I love it because it’s simple, yet sexy. The top shows a lil’ skin, but it’s not too revealing, plus the white linen pants fit to perfection! I would rock this look to work, lunch with the girls or even a beach getaway with bae, seriously the possibilities are endless. Keep scrolling to see the full look!
Being that I work in an office setting behind a computer, it can be tough to find the motivation to get dressed up sometimes because I don't usually see a lot of people. On the flip side, working from home for two years taught me that you must dress up for you!
The majority of the time I dress for comfort. Every now and then, I’ll endure the motto, “Beauty is pain” and sport a pair of heels and a midi dress, but usually, you’ll find me in flats and jeans. Especially living in Austin, everyone here dresses down, so it makes sense to keep it casual.I would describe my style to be simple, comfy, minimal and fitting. Even though I prefer to be comfortable, I like to show off my figure. Instead of bold patterns and accessories, I admire the details. Like with this top what I love most is the rouched sleeve and criss-cross tie that adds some flare to it. Also, the capris have details such as the kick flare and ruffle bottom seams to jazz it up.
Fashion is a way for me to get creative and express myself in a unique way without saying a word. Usually, you can tell how I'm feeling by what I'm wearing. This look can be described as flirty, simplistic and fun!Lately I’ve been obsessed with using the finger coil technique to create defined curls. Since I’m growing my hair out, it’s been a great way to blend in my longer curls and keep my short cut looking fresh. I usually wash my hair the night before and coil it while it’s damp, then let it air dry overnight. Once my hair is dry I unravel the coils, then pick my hair to add some volume and definition.
Here’s what I use:
Even though there are many trends to try, always do what feels right! I feel it's important to be aware of your body type and know what looks good on you and what doesn't. Be honest with yourself. For instance, I know that tent, drop-waisted, and shift dresses don't look good on me. Also, being that I'm 5'8 mini dresses are my worst enemy as I tug on it throughout the entire day so I always opt for a midi dress instead.
Everything may not be for you and that's okay because what's for you, is for you. Find out what does work for you and own it!
What are your favorite Summer trends? How do you remain true to your style? We'd love to hear from you.
