We’ve all been there: sitting in the hairstylists chair, explaining that we want a trim, to only be turned around and see in the mirror before us a lack of the hair we so cherished. I know hardly a single curly gal who has ever not experienced this sort of “misunderstanding” with their stylist. It is a staple stereotype of getting your hair cut, and often it rings so true that, as a community, we’ve created specific curly cuts to avoid the problem. Heck, some of us skip trims all together to avoid the situation, and honestly, you won’t get any backlash from the community for doing so — just understanding looks from women who’ve been there too.

Celebrities aren’t immune to this societal disorder of sorts either. According to People StyleWatch, back in December, Cameron Diaz went to her personal stylist and explained that she wanted just a trim. But when she was turned around to the mirror, she burst out in tears at the short cut she saw staring back at her.

“I just burst into tears and started crying, and I felt so vulnerable,” she explained on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno. “For a woman to all of a sudden have no hair, oh my god.”

Of course, the situation was worsened by the mere fact that the stylist is also Diaz’ mother. According to Diaz, her mother has been cutting her hair for as long as she can remember, but we’re thinking this is probably the first time such a “misunderstanding” has occurred. All of which leads me to this questions, curlies:

Would you let a friend, mother, etc. cut your hair after a bad experience?
