“Old Hollywood Glam” is definitely the theme of this year’s award shows. There were not as many celebrity curly hairstyles as we hoped to see, but there were a lot of sexy classic pin-ups and finger wave styles this year on the red carpet at the Screen Actor Guild Awards.
Julianna Margulies, from “The Good Wife,” was ever so stunning as a presenter. Her type 3B hair was beautifully pulled back to accentuate her waves. To steal her look, after using a soft styling cream, lightly brush out the curls with a Denman brush, then slightly twist at the sides and pull back. Then loosely put an elastic headband on (one that matches your hair color”> to give the front a little bump.
Kyra Sedgwick, from “The Closer,” looked killer with her beachy waves. Get her style by taking damp, wavy hair and using a texture wax, scrunch the product in and twisting the waves back.
Viola Davis, Female Actor in a Leading Role for “The Help,” won in my book for best hair last tonight. Her type 4 curls were fierce and volumized in an angled bob. Set the curls with a medium hold gel then tussle them with your fingers to create separation, and then run a matte paste through them to give a roughness to the curls. This look is flawless.
Zoe Saldana showed off her spectacular dress with her type 3C curls with a simple yet elegant chignon. Pulling the hair into a simple or styled bun and then loosely sweeping the hairline away from the face to give a little lift.
Jessica Lange, Female Actor in a Drama Series for “American Horror Story,” was out of this world amazing with her Brigitte Bardot style. Her type 2C curls were tussled and teased with endless amounts of hard hold aerosol hairspray. Starting with day old curls, spray heavily, then turn upside down and tease to create height. Flip over and, with a texture paste, twist the front curls back to fan away from the face.
Melissa McCarthy, of “Bridesmaids,” always keeps the laughs going on stage. She had her type 2B waves accentuated with a volumizing foam to increase the curl, then lightly tussled to give movement.
