Hibiscus Marshmallow Leave-In Conditioner Review

Product Claim/Description:

“We love to make products that are not only all natural, but also have ingredients that benefit the hair. This leave-in conditioner is packed with goodies such as marshmallow root extract, amla, and rosemary essential oil just to name a few. These are ingredients that promote hair growth and also leave the hair soft, moisturized, and easy to detangle.”

Performance/Delivery:

Moisture, check. Softness, check. Easy to detangle, check. Although I typically detangle my hair before washing and it is fairly tangle-free by leave-in time, I always like for my leave-in and stylers to have enough slip to run my fingers through my hair for even coverage and smooth styling. The Hibiscus Marshmallow Leave-In definitely delivers in that area. The scent is delicate and slightly plant-smelling (once you smell it for yourself, it will make sense”> which I attribute to the hibiscus and amla. I used the leave-in on a satin strip braidout, and also on a wash n’ go. Both times, my hair was incredibly soft and retained an amazing amount of moisture. It didn’t weigh my hair down, give me the greasies, or make my heat damaged ends stringy — all hallmarks of a great transitioner product.

  • Distilled water infused with hibiscus flower and burdock root: Normally, I skip water as an ingredient, but this isn’t plain water. The addition of hibiscus raises the benefits of this product, the flower is used to prevent hair loss, soothe the scalp, condition, and aid in moisturizing hair. Burdock root also soothes the scalp, while stimulating hair growth, adding sheen, and strengthening.
  • Cetearyl Alcohol: Combination of Cetyl and Stearyl fatty alcohols. Acts as an emulsifying agent responsible for the creamy feel of conditioner and softening hair.
  • Stearalkonium Chloride: Cationic surfactant derived from stearic acid, a fatty acid found in plants and animals. It is an antistatic agent, and positively charged salt that attracts and binds proteins, which are negatively charged. It is found to increase luster and improve the condition of wet or dry hair, often serving to detangle the hair.
  • Safflower Oil: Protects hair, nourishes hair follicles, moisturizes, and stimulates blood circulation to promote hair growth and thickness. And it is extremely beneficial for natural as well as dry chemically treated hair.
  • Olive Oil: Great for moisturizing, deep conditioning, improving hair strength, eliminating dandruff, and also has powerful antioxidants that can help fight hair loss.
  • Marshmallow Root Extract: Extraction that creates a slippery, mucous-like substance that adds incredible slip (translation: awesome detangling”>, and contains high amounts of plant proteins for strengthening and conditioning hair.

Availability:

Ynobe Shop products are available exclusively online at www.ynobeshop.com. I really wish more small business products were available in stores. But I must admit, I do get incredibly giddy when a package arrives at my home.

Affordability:

The 4oz bottle is currently on sale as the September promotion item for $6.75 (regularly $7.25″>. I have the 8oz bottle which is $11.35. All things considered, the product is fairly affordable. The ingredients are incredibly high quality, and the more I explore products, the more I understand that you truly get what you pay for. Cheaper products are made with cheaper ingredients. I’d personally rather spring for something that costs a little more as opposed to purchasing products with harmful ingredients to save a few bucks.

Bonuses:

The Results

Great styles start with a great foundation. I had quite possibly one of the shiniest, softest satin strip braidouts ever with the Hibiscus Marshmallow Leave-In. Although it didn’t provide long lasting hold, that wasn’t what I was looking for. The braidout is a 3-4 day style for me, and I need to have a product at the base that provides long-term moisture without refreshing — and this product did just that. Another cool bonus is that all Ynobe Shop products are stamped with the batch date and made to order, so you know exactly how fresh your goodies are. Ynobe Shop products are also free of silicones, mineral oil, petroleum, synthetic fragrances, artificial colors, phthalates, and parabens. Ynobe Shop also offers an eco-friendly container reuse program. When you ship back your empty product containers, they are sterilized for reuse and refilled with your products of choice — and you receive free shipping and a 10% discount. For the ingredient sensitive, there are also glycerin and protein-free options for products that contain those ingredients.

Drawbacks:

I honestly can’t think of any. The only thing that I didn’t care for had absolutely nothing to do with the product. My only critique is the labeling of the product. I found it difficult to see the ingredient list because the label is circular, and it follows that same pattern. Not a huge deal breaker though, the ingredients are easily available online.

Best Practices:

This leave-in works best on damp freshly washed hair, before styling. It can be applied in small sections or larger ones. You can be heavy handed or apply sparingly – either one works great.

Bottom Line:

If you’re looking for a lightweight, nourishing leave-in conditioner that packs a moisturizing punch – this is the one!
