Val (YouTube- Vcoral87“> shares her tips for taming her frizzy 3A curly hair.

Keep your hair moisturized.

Curly hair requires tons of moisture, so make sure you keep your hair properly hydrated, especially in humid climates and warmer seasons.

Being a product junkie is OK!

I use the Bonacure Color Save Shampoo from Schwarzkopf for my lightened hair. I also like Head & Shoulders 2-In-1 Itchy Scalp Care because my dandruff needs a good sulfate cleanser, too. If my hair is feeling heavy, I’ll cleanse with the As I Am Coconut CoWash Cleansing Conditioner.

Deep condition with a protein mask

I love using mayonnaise, eggs, and coconut oil for one hour. It silkens, smoothes, and nourishes my hair whenever it is dry. If you prefer to buy your DC, I suggest applying SheaMoisture’s Smooth & Repair Masque while you’re in the shower, paired with Garnier Fructis Damage Eraser. Overnight, I use unrefined virgin coconut oil for added moisture.

After conditioning, rinse your hair with cold water

This will seal the moisture into your cuticle. Then, dry your hair with either a cotton t-shirt or a microfiber towel. Do NOT rub your hair into it, as that will cause even more friction, breakage, and frizz. You can use one like this from Turbie Twist.

Avoid products with alcohol

Alcohol dries hair. So be sure to read the labels on your products! For styling, I use Ouidad Heat & Humidity Gel in warmer climates. I also use it to refresh 2nd and 3rd day hair. The Herbal Essences Totally Twist Curl Define Creme. It has an amazing summery scent and makes my curls bouncy. I also enjoy using a generous amount of SheaMoisture Coconut & Hibiscus Curl and Style Milk, but not too much as it contains coconut milk (and that can make my hair look dirty”>. The Frizz Ease Curl Perfecting Spray also helps to refresh my 3rd and 4th day hair.

Use mousse

Since I live in a humid, warm climate, I use mousse often. Right now I like Mystic Divine Creations Styling Mousse because of the Argan and Monoi oil, which add moisture to thirsty hair. Another fave of mine is Herbal Essences Tousle Me Tousling Mousse.

Don’t touch your hair

I like to use a diffuser on a low-heat setting to avoid directly touching my hair. In order to prevent heat damage and further breakage, I use a protectant like Tresemme Platinum Strength Heat Protectant Spray, which also fortifies hair. Use a finishing oil to smooth any leftover frizz. I like applying the Mystic Divine nourishing oils to my ends.

To sum it up…

Don’t overload your hair with product. All of the additional touching and manipulating can cause the curls to be weighed down, and they’ll be more prone to breakage and frizz.
