What I Like (And Don't Like) About the Tress App for Natural Hair

The Tress App is an app for naturalistas to post pictures of their hair, share the products they use and provide steps on how to create fabulous hairstyles.

If you are like me, then you always get tons of questions about how you style your hair and what products I use. I almost always get stopped in the target aisle browsing for new products with questions about my hair. I was so intrigued when I found out about this app called Tress founded by Esther Olatunde, Priscilla Hazel, and Cassandra Sarfo. The Tress app is a new natural hair app for all things natural hair. The founders created the Tress app because they love changing their hairstyles and were always on the lookout for interesting and unique hairstyles. They got inspiration from social media and search engines, but always wanted more information about each hairstyle and the chance to ask more information.

About the App

I have got good news for you. The Tress app is totally free! All photos are public by default which means they are visible to anyone using Tress. They are exploring versions that may later consider privacy settings. The tress app helps to explain so many hairstyles including weaves, braids, locs, blowouts, and much more.

Tress is a fun and easy way to share your hairstyle pictures "tressies" with your friends through the app. Take a tressie, (picture) to upload on the Tress app. You can add information like name of hair-extension, or even the name and location of a salon, and the price range of the particular hairstyle. It gives naturalistas the access to an online community where you can create a profile, post pictures of your hair, share the products that you use, and you can give how-tos on how to get a look.

Why I like

I love that it provides women with information about natural hair. It is also cool because it can help stylists and salons build clientele. I found some cool new hairstyles that I loved and will try to recreate. I love that the app has a Q&A section where people can ask questions about hair and others can answer. When I was a new natural I found that when I first went natural forums were so helpful.

What I don't like

I don't like that you have to put a price range for each style. Some of the styles I do, don't involve weave or a stylist so many times that portion of the app didn't apply to my styles.

Would I recommend?

I would totally recommend this app to any curly girl who needs a little inspiration for their hairstyles. The app is relatively easy to use, and it's fun!

Will you try out the Tress app?
