Women are busy. We are juggling work, school, family, friends, partners, pets, and our home life. We are taking on multiple projects at once and are often burning ourselves out. We are finding it difficult at times to say no because we want to be “super women.” We are always on the go and not finding enough time for rest.

It is time for us to stop and care for ourselves. 

Self-care allows you to take time for yourself and help balance your mind, body, and spirit. Incorporating self-care within your lifestyle can increase happiness and decrease stress. It allows you to take time to make yourself a priority and find what makes you happy. Self-care should occur frequently in order to keep all areas of wellness balanced, and it doesn’t have to be complex or expensive. Here are simple ways that you incorporate self-care practices that can improve your overall health.

Healthy Eating

Incorporate fruits, vegetables, and other whole foods into your diet to assist with a healthy lifestyle. Decorate your plate with colorful foods to nourish yourself with vitamins and minerals to keep you strong. You can find simple recipes online with minimal ingredients and meal prep throughout the week. It minimizes the “what’s for dinner?” question that we constantly ask ourselves.

Exercise

This does not have to be dreadful. Participate in an activity that you enjoy that will keep you moving. Your exercise session does not have to be long, just schedule a time that works within your lifestyle. Whether you take a kickboxing class or go for a walk, take the time to get your body moving and show gratitude for all of the amazing things it can do.

Rest

Rest is essential to keep your body going. It is important to get the proper amount of sleep at night and maintain a healthy body. Developing a bedtime routine will help your body unwind and can assist with falling asleep. You can drink a cup of caffeine free tea, spray your pillow with a lavender mist spray or listen to relaxing music to calm your mind.

Balance

Sometimes, we just take on too much. Make sure to balance those items on your to-do list or you will burn yourself out. Try to make realistic to-do lists each day so you will not be overwhelmed and feel disappointed when you don’t get to all of them. Make sure to take breaks to give yourself a break throughout the day.

Have Fun

Take some time to enjoy yourself and have fun! Plan time with yourself, friends, family, and pets. Have a girl’s night out and dance the night away with ones who truly have your back.
