The Big Apple has seen is fair share of natural hair events, but next week The Curly Girl Collective is dishing up a new spin on how to connect the curly community, “Curl Crush: A Speed Hair Event For Your Kinks & Coils.”

Not sure what that means? Well, think speed dating meets Meetup with a dollop of #naturalhair on top. It’s taking place Tuesday, Dec 6 from 7 to 10 p.m. at the Taj Lounge.

Matchmaker! Matchmaker!

The focus of the event will be a round of rapid-fire one-on-one time led by a Curly Girl Collective matchmaker. In this series of “quick and playful ‘dates,'” attendees will have the opportunity to ask styling questions and get haircare tips from fellow curlies as well as some of NYC’s curly icons.

“We just wanted to do something different,” explained Charisse Higgins, CGC Director of Business Strategy. “A lot of natural hair events are just mixers, but we wanted to give people a unique experience.”

Notable attendees that you’ll be able to get some curly QT with include Dickey of Hair Rules, Karen Tappin of Karen’s Body Beautiful, Christina Brown of LoveBrownSugar, stylists from Tina Pearson salon, vlogger ChescaLeigh, blogger Renae Bluitt of In Her Shoes, and more!

From Curl Crush to Curl Friend.

The Curly Girl Collective is a group of six women who came together to create a dynamic event planning and community building team. Their launch event, which took place in May 2011, drew over 300 attendees who enjoyed styling, manicures, and great giveaways and raffles.

As CGC’s second event, “Curl Crush” is aimed at deepening and strengthening the bonds of the natural hair community by creating a space for intentional and intimate conversations.

“I am looking forward to feeling the dynamic energy in the room; women from all different corners of the city are coming together to share their hair journey, the love their natural beauty, and to empower & encourage each other,” shares CGC Strategic Partnerships Director Gia Lowe.

If you’ve ever wanted to ask a stranger at a Meetup about her styling techniques, her routine, or even where she got her shoes, this is the perfect way to turn a Curl Crush into a new Curl Friend.
