I co-wash and condition in the shower. Leave the conditioner in my hair while I do the rest of my showering, then rinse it out upside down. Turn the water off and rake in my leave-in conditioner.

Then I turn my head upside down (I'm still standing in the shower at this point, with the water off) and scrunch out as much water as I can with my hands. I find that if I put gel into soaking wet hair it dries sort of straightish, I have to let my hair find it's curl first THEN gel it.

When I have scrunched out a good bit of water and my hair is curling, then I scrunch in my gel. Now I can get out of the shower and dry off. I plop my hair while I'm drying off and getting dressed, then let it down and either diffuse or air dry (depending on how cold it is).

I tend to shower at random times depending on when I've worked out that day -- sometimes morning, sometimes night. It's too cold now to go to bed with wet hair so I've been diffusing if I do it at night.
