No mine is never straight. Even when I comb the gel through, it starts to curl up by itself. BUT without a lot of scrunching it is Very Flat. Without gel it is actually just as wavy but completely undefined, each hair going its own way, and is still Very Flat. It reminds me of one of those videos from the 1960s with some guitarist rocking frizzy ugly waves.

So I much prefer the way it looks with a lot of product in it, it will chunk up somewhat and get much smoother and more organized, and scrunching pops the curls up, and pineapple overnight and/or a little hairspray to make it bigger.
