"Coupe sauvage" coup or coupe is cut (like Coup de Grace).
P.S. It was REALLY popular in England in the 80s -- but they called it a "knife and fork cut" because you looked like that was how you'd cut your hair.
A more modern example would be like those cuts like an anime character...if you messed them up. basically shaggy, ragged and sticking up.
