Does this mean if I straighten my hair I need to use a smoothing de-frizzer aswell as a heat protector? Should I apply the smoother before straightening? Thanks, am just surfing through the forums to try and find some good recommendations on hair styling.

Put it on after you washed your hair and let dry. Then use your heat protector beofre you flat iron.
