I've been long transitioning for about one year now, long before I found this site. I have about 3-4 inches of virgin hair, and I don't have any complaints. Four years ago I did a big chop because of vicious split-ends, and when it got so long that I actually had to style it, my stylist put in a light relaxer (not bone straight, but significantly relaxed curls). While I liked it for the first few weeks, I was not pleased in the long run, and am now growing my hair out again. Only now do I have to start using some kind of a style (twist-outs and bantu knots for the most part) to hide the line of demarcation. Having done this before, I know it seems like it is taking forever, but it's completely worth it if the big chop isn't your style.
