I live in a small town with no access to curly specialists.

What I did was ask around to friends for salon suggestions--or salons in town with good reputations. I then called the salon and asked to speak to the owner. I explained my situation, that I had naturally curly hair and I wanted to keep it that way. I was growing it out and didn't want anything drastic, just some shaping. I didn't want a blow dry or anything, but to let it dry naturally. I asked the owner for a suggestion: did she have any one in her salon that was really good with curly hair?

So far, I've been pleased with the cuts I've gotten. Her suggestion ended up being her (the owner). She will cut it dry if I ask her to. She's been very conservative on her cuts, sometimes leaving me wondering why I even went in. However, even with the small amounts cut off, my hair seems to look better when she's done.

So, my suggestion ends up being to ask around & talk to salon owners. They want to keep up their salon's reputation for quality service.
