Hmm, I was going to post a quick reply to this thread, but the answer was getting sufficiently long that I decided it might warrant its own article. I will try to remember to come back and post a link to it, once it is up.
I will say this: don't underestimate the amount of time, money, and concerted scientific efforts being placed into the development of and understanding of hair care/cosmetic/personal care science. It is a longstanding, interdisciplinary field that is growing by leaps and bounds. However, it is wise to be critical of the source from which you are receiving information. Always view facts in light of your own experience as well.
