I watched a video earlier where the makeup artist suggested using 99% alcohol. It is supposed to clean and disinfect while drying quickly to allow you to use the brush again right away. Many comments said that 70% isopropyl alcohol would work just as well.

I've been using a facial cleanser and water. I have heard that would work since the facial cleanser removes makeup from the face, therefore it would clean it from brushes. I would imagine this would only be for brushes that are being used on one person, not on various people such as a makeup artist would.
