High Dew Point Support-Wavy edition

I haven't seen a bump of an old thread for wavies so forgive me if one exists We have an older thread on the Gen Discussion but products change and so does our hair.

We know texture & porosity play a major role with what products to use but we still need to consider the curl pattern too. For those of you who need help with dew points here is an excellent blog post from CJ How to keep your hair from drying out that describes how dew points & humidity affect our hair as well as other valuable info. You can find your local dew points at wunderground.com also RCC's famous blog post on Dew Points

So how are you wavies coping? I'm having great success with sealing using coconut oil which serves as my LI. My favorite stylers that I rotate are CJ Aloe Fix, CJ Aloe Fix Light, CJ CIAB or Ecostyler all followed up with my BRHG for extra hold. I still have to experiment again with Curlkeeper which worked great for me 2 Summers ago.

I should really try sealing, since I'm porous. Thanks for reminding me that it might help with my humidity related frizz.

I've been mostly sticking to Ecostyler/LALSG, but if I'm feeling adventurous/frustrated, I'll use a little CIAB or Curlkeeper to help keep the frizz at bay.

Well our weather cannot decide what to do. 50-60 one day, 90 the next. Very unusual for us. What we have had in a consistent dose is WIND!! I was not a wavy until July of last year so this is my first spring and the wind was not something I was expecting.

Looks as if warmer weather is on the way this week and may be staying so I am unsure what will work for me.

Curl Keeper has seriously, quickly become a HG for me. I hope it continues to work in high dews. I got a small bottle in a multiswap and decided to try it. GLAD I did. How did you use it in the summer? Under and over what? I am curious to know!

The higher dews mean I'm able to use some of my glycerin heavy products again, yay! Unfortunately it seems like we've had a string of days where the DP as been 65 or above which means my hair is poofing big time after a few hours.

I just need to find that perfect balance! Or maybe only use one product with glyercin a day...

My dewpoints haven't gone up very high yet, 40 today, but I know I need to start thinking about them. I have some CK I am waiting to try, I had tested it in lower dewpoints and it essentially did nothing. I am also wanting to try sealing but I still don't quite understand what it consists of. I get what the point is just not how to execute! lol! Any pointers?
I luxuriate in the higher dewpoints (my hair does, anyhow). If I use FSG (and I use a lot), frizz isn't much of an issue and I often put something over the FSG for more hold - but not always. Higher dews give me spirals and boing-y curls. It makes it harder to keep volume on the flat places - so more clipping and perhaps a bit more gel there.

sealing for wavies

JAJC-I used curlkeeper under my BRHG it didn't have enough hold for me on it's own. That's nothing new never have been able to use 1 product that does it all

Asian-LOVE glycerin in high dew points but it still depends on the product so I'm not really sure how much my hair can take. AFL seems to work in Mid-High dews for sure. Reg AF seems to work great in that same range as long as I seal first. AFL has a little more hold though

Queen Helene Royal Curl has left me POOFY and undefined so obviously too much of something my hair doesn't like. My daughter's fine hair seems to do really well and it gives her lots of body.

Thanks!

I don't understand the science of my hair at all; only what works and what doesn't, by trial and error.

I cannot even imagine being able to use one product and go. That would be a DREAM, wouldn't it??!!

Ninja I think it means your hair is on the fine side & benefits from the extra body that comes with humidity. My little one is the same way, her hair is much flatter in low dews

Thanks, DEL. Is there something I should be doing to it based on this information?

Sorry to be so dim.
Ninja just plenty of protein & maybe you don't need to concern yourself too much about humectants :-)

This being taken at night, I'm sure the readings are a little low. My dewpoints will be up to 53 this week...it says ON THE EDGE

I gather that I am in the GOOD range, but I still don't really understand the correlation to temperature to humidity to dew point.

Del I decided to give sealing a try and I'm so glad I did! I have a bunch of BB's Berry Lime butter so yesterday and today while my hair was almost soaking wet, I emulsified a tiny of of butter in my hands and just scrunched all around before scrunching in my styling product.

I think it really gets those waves going and really helps with the clumping!

What is killing me is a producty feel. I cant seem to find what I need to keep my hair under control in the hot heat that leaves it feeling soft. I keep getting crunchy/dry feeling you cant scrunch out. I dont know if it is too much or not enough of the polymer, protein, glycerin, etc.

Using FIA: 2b/2a mix with a few ringlets in the canopy, straighter in the under layer by my neck. Thin in density, fine strands. Normal porosity. Hennaed.

Go To's: Aveda, Lush
Asian that's great! I was so glad I did too makes a big difference. CSJ maybe it's the wrong products for you during high dews? I find products that work really great in high dews will make my hair fall flat and feel too soft in low/ideal dews. I really have to change what I use or I don't get enough crunch which results in POOF for me.
