Using the Shea Moisture Coconut and Hibscus Smoothie on Our Hair

I have 2c, porous, fine, dense hair, and I've bought most of the SheaMoisture Coconut and Hibiscus LIne, which I'm finding pretty awesome so far. I use the milk as a leave-in and it works great, and the spray as a refresher.

I did buy the Smoothie, and both from the NC reviews and intuition, gather that it is probably too heavy and greasy to use as a styler for my fine but dense hair.

I was wondering if any wavies with similar hair have used it as a DT and what kind of results you got? Since it contains protein, do/did you need to follow it right up with a regular, non-protein DC? I have a tub of Curl Junkie Curl Rehab to use for that if necessary.

I'm thinking of doing this after I get my hair salon-colored in a few weeks to minimize/repair damage.

Has anyone done this? What kind of results did you get?

Does anyone think this will be beneficial, or is the smoothie simply better meant for people with tighter curl patterns?

My hair is fine with normal porosity, and The SM Smoothie is a hole grail product for me that I use ever time I do my hair. I think I use between one and two tablespoons as a styler. I rake it in right after my leave it, before I plop. Then I plop for a few minutes and scrunch in a gel. All that said, I would give the smoothie a try as a styler some time. A lot of fine haired waives get weighed down, but I think the protein actually perks up my hair and it serves as a sealant to keep the moisture in hair. I don't think it's very different from the style milk.

You could probably use it as a deep conditioner too, but it doesn't really have a lot of slip on its own. It might help to mix it with with your normal conditioner to make it a bit more spreadable. The protein amount probably isn't high enough to make your hair dry or rough, because it is meant to stay on the hair for days.

Thanks for the advice. I might try it as a styler under gel when the dew points get really low in the winter.

I have fine, dense, normal porosity hair too and I love the smoothie as a styler, I use just a dab though. But it's awesome! I don't find it to be too heavy at all. I don't really think it would work that well as a DT to be honest, it's mostly a sealing/styling product.
