Different curl patterns

I am trying to get back into wearing my hair curly (and doing CG). I've noticed I've got many different curl patterns going on.

In the back, the under layer is almost straight - 2A. The middle layer is 2B and the top layer is a mixture of 2A and 2B. It all works together.

But on my sides, the bottom layer is ringlets - like 3A/3B. Then the middle layer is more 2C and same for top layer.

I am guessing at the curl patterns so could be off a bit but you get the general idea.

I usually just have to put a few curls in the back and it works with the 2C top layer I have on sides.

But the 3A/3B underlayer on the sides is driving me nutso! It gives my hair this huge poof on the sides. Anyway to tame those curls?

Might partly be down to how your hair is cut, the length of different sections. Or partly down to more damage on the canopy from sunlight or the shower beating down on you.

Have you worked out your hair properties - porosity, elasticity, coarseness - and your dew points/ humidity? See the Live Curly Live Free site, the stickies on the newbies and general haircare boards, either the free 'Curls on the Go' app or the 'Frizz Forecast' on the main NC site if you do not have a smartphone.

Once you know this you can choose appropriate ingredients and products, might be that some areas need more penetrating oils and others more protein say. In the short term try using way more leave in conditioner on the curlier underlayers.

Thanks for the info.

I've tried figuring all that out before but never been to positive I was right I think I have high porosity, texture - medium to coarse, and I think normal elasticity.

Humidity ranges 53-58% (was SO much worse a couple of weeks ago!) and dew 52-60%.

I will have to check out those links- thanks! And for now maybe try some extra leave-in on the underlayers to calm down those curls
