Curl Pattern: 2c
Texture: Fine
Porosity: Medium
Density: Thick
Elasticity: Normal
Characteristics: No root curl unless my hair is at chin length or shorter.
The length stays really curly until my hair is about 3" long or shorter. Then it's all totally straight.<---learned that by experience.
Very easy to straighten but also very easy to make curly.

Curl Pattern: 2c i think.
Texture: Medium
Porosity: no ideaaa
Density: medium
Elasticity: normal
Characteristics: no root curl, some waves, some spirals
CG/ModCG/not CG: ModCG - I use PEG modified 'cones in my gel, but otherwise i'm CG so far. I've only been doing if for a couple weeks now. usually i straighten my side bangs or pin them back.

Hair ingredient likes: experimenting still (:
Hair ingredient dislikes: ^

Hard/Soft Water: Soft!

HG/Go-to Products: experimenting still

Average climate/dew points: ohio weather :/

Fall/Winter combos: haven't been CG in winter
Spring/Summer combos: now trying Suave Naturals coconut co-wash with Garnier triple nutrition 3 min undo rinse out, tresemme gel.

Favorite styling techniques and why: so far super soaker with plopping because it reduces my hair drying time, and promotes more curls/clumps. It does cause some frizz, so i might be trying new methods soon.
Techniques that didnít work and why: haven't tried many yet

Hair Twins: possibly rachelilly??

OOh I think i might be your hair twin RenaBanana! except that my hair definitely doesn't look as fabulous as yours. Mine is so horrible that I dont' even dare post a picture of it. =(
I've been doing CG for about 4-5 months now, and it's healthier than its ever been but not at all close to what it should be. Makes me realize how much damage I have.

Curl Pattern: 2c
Texture: Coarse
Porosity: Medium
Density: Thick
Elasticity: Normal
Characteristics: flat and semi-straight on top w/ lots of frizz. wavy/curly underneath

the shorter I cut it the bigger it gets, just learned that after cutting my own hair! ( i get bored quickly)
I dye my hair once or twice a year, which is were all the damage comes from.

I like what HETT does to my hair, but I definitely don't like the scent. It's not horrible, but I just don't like it. I LOVE the scent of HE SMU mousse, but it gives me the stringy wet look.( i got asked once if I had just showered despite it being about 10 hrs after my shower)

I love CJ curl rehab and smoothing daily conditioner. Definitely high quality products.
CJ daily fix is too thick for my thick hair and I don't feel like it's clean. I need something a little more dilute.
CJ CIA is one of the few gels that has given me some good results, but I think I either have buildup or my hair got used to it, b/c my hair started going limp.
2a/b, thick/coarse, high porosity
Curl Pattern: 2c with some 3a
Texture: mostly fine
Porosity: med-high
Density: thick
Elasticity: low i think? i'm honestly not sure
Characteristics: flat top every now and then, sometimes my left side curls significantly better than my right, i seriously have to promote root curl

Hair ingredient dislikes: -cones, sulfates, olive oil

Hard/Soft Water: soft at home, hard at school

HG/Go-to Products: LALSG, Suave Tropical Coconut, Deva OneC (when i can afford it), EcoStyler, Garnier Triple Nutrition
Average climate/dew points: humid!! summer in the midwest! dewpoints in the mid 50s and up!

Fall/Winter combos: still working on that one
Spring/Summer combos: currently: co-wash-Suave Naturals Tropical Coconut, rinse-out--Garnier Triple Nutrition, Leave-in--Oyin Honey-Hemp Conditioner, Stylers--EcoStyler, LALSG, BRHG

Favorite styling techniques and why: SOTC, icequeen method for promoting root curl, modified SS method for clumps, pixiecurl diffusing in the winter
Techniques that didnít work and why: plopping with shorter hair gives me really weird hair patterns, SS method with a fine-toothed comb breaks apart my curl pattern terribly

Hair Twins: none right now =(

Average Climate/Dew Points: humid, mid-50s

Fall/Winter Combos: I use the same products year round.
Spring/Summer Combos: I'm a newbie so my routine isn't so well thought out.

Favorite styling techniques and why: air-drying with or without product (leaves a nice natural look), and for fancy occasions diffusing with mousse works wonders
Techniques that didn't work and why: straightening, blowing out; very difficult and only my hair dresser can manage this, otherwise gets wavy again by the end of the day

Hair Twins: Haven't found any yet!

HG/Go-to Products: DermaOrganic Conditioning Shampoo, Suave Coconut as co-wash, Tressemme Naturals conditioner, Flaxseed Gel, & LALSG

Fall/Winter combos: will find out soon!

Spring/Summer combos: FSG & LALSG

Favorite styling techniques and why: Scrunching in FSG & diffusing. It gives my less wavy front a little more boost

Techniques that didnít work and why: Plopping. My hair barely has any wave on the crown front area. Plopping makes the less wavy hair do strange things.

Hair Biography

Curl Pattern: 2b
Texture: fine/medium
Porosity: low
Density: medium
Elasticity: normal
Characteristics: waves from root to tip, 3a/3b baby hairs at temples and nape, insanely slippery regardless of product use, resists all attempts to make it curlier or straighter

CG/ModCG/not CG: ModCG (low-poo twice a week, occasional sulfate use)

Hair ingredient likes: camellia oil, coconut oil, glycerin
Hair ingredient dislikes: 'cones (even water-soluble), proteins other than hydrolized silk

Hard/Soft Water: slightly to moderately hard

HG/Go-to Products: GF Triple Nutrition CO, camellia oil, Nightblooming Panacea's Hair Salve

Average climate/dew points: at home: moderately humid, dew point tend to be in the 50s year-round; at work: dry, dry, oh em gee so dry

Fall/Winter combos: see HGs
Spring/Summer combos: same, since the weather stays pretty constant

Favorite styling techniques and why: icequeen for clumps, scrunching and plopping for curl
Techniques that didnít work and why: super soaker (my hair was still wet 24 hours later), fingercombing only (I get crazy canopy frizz if I don't detangle with a comb while I'm conditioning), anything at all involving non-flax gel (always results in mostly straight, dread-like clumps after a couple hours, no matter the type of gel)

Hair Twins: none, so far

Hair Biography

Curl Pattern: Probably 2b (maybe 2c on good "curl" days?)
Texture: Medium/Coarse, though my hair is not wiry -- just thick!
Porosity: Medium
Density: Thick
Elasticity: Low, definitely
Characteristics: Flat top/no root curl, straight underneath, doesn't have a particularly strong wave pattern on no-product days, very frizzy, but especially so in humid weather

CG/ModCG/not CG: I'm not CG yet...waiting until I finish all my shampoo! I'll probably go ModCG then.

Hair ingredient likes: In the way of non-ingredient-related things, it likes moisturizing COs (not overly hydrating, though) and gel (preferably the squeeze-out kind, not the spray-on)
Hair ingredient dislikes: These are not ingredients, either, but for the most part, my hair doesn't like mousse, a blowdryer without a diffuser, or brushes (combs are OK when hair is CO-coated)

Hard/Soft Water: A little more on the hard side

HG/Go-to Products: GF curl shaping spray gel, HETT gel, Aussie Cleanse & Mend 'poo and CO

Average climate/dew points: .........

Fall/Winter combos: I think I'm going to pretty much use the same combo as I did for summer, unless my hair reacts in a bad way (it's my first winter really getting to know how to care for my wavy hair). I shower, do the SS method minus the leave-in, apply my gel, plop, and air dry or diffuse.
Spring/Summer combos: Same as above.

Favorite styling techniques and why: Plopping (it's like scrunching your hair AND drying it at the same time!), SS method (it just enhances my waves, period!), and I think I like Pixiecurling (it doesn't disturb my wave pattern and reduces frizz a little).

Techniques that didn’t work and why: I didn't like Skipcurling too much if you do it with tiny pieces of hair. It looked like just a twist, no curl, if you KWIM. But with larger sections, it works OK.

Hair Twins: I have yet to find one!
Type 2c/3a with lots of hair and a super sensitive scalp! Med/slightly coarse texture, low porosity and elasticity.

Low poo: Organix TTM, Essential Wholesale Free & Clean
Stylers: EcoStylers, GF Curl Shaping Gel, Aussie Aussome Volume Mousse & Instant Freeze Gel, GFPC, LALNC, La Bella Lots of Curls, Apricot Oil, KMFUM, AO B5DG
Extras: sugar scrubs, AVG washes, pre-poos with EVCO, oiling scalp before washes, plopping, gelatin PT.
Mod-CG since 12/1/10!

Curl Pattern: Not sure- I think 2b, maybe 2c with the right products/techniques?
Texture: medium
Porosity: not sure- the first time I tried, the hair didn't sink at all, the second time, right away...
Density: med/thick
Elasticity: Low (I think- it is hard to pull my hair- it is so slick that my fingers slide right off!)
Characteristics: Flat top, no root curl, straight underneath, very frizzy (particularly top canopy), front and back is less wavy than sides (the front right side in particular), weak waves and poofy with no product

CG/ModCG/not CG: I'm starting my fourth week- modCG (need low-poo sometimes for my oily scalp)

Hair ingredient likes: still learning
Hair ingredient dislikes: still learning, but I think mineral oil

Hard/Soft Water: Hard water with a filter on the shower head

HG/Go-to Products: haven't found them yet

Average climate/dew points: Connecticut- got pretty much everything

Fall/Winter combos:
Spring/Summer combos:

Favorite styling techniques and why: right now I'm doing a modified icequeen, scrunch in gel and do a 5 minute plop, clip (I'm also "clip challenged" so sometimes I get some weirdness- but without it I've got a bit of pyramid head), air dry WITHOUT TOUCHING

Techniques that didn’t work and why: Touching my hair while it is still damp (which I still do because I'm impatient)- major frizz

Hair Twins: Haven't found one yet.

Hair Biography
Curl Pattern: Andre Walker: 2A/B-3A, Fia's 2c-3A
Texture: fine side of medium, with coarse strands here and there
Porosity: used to be high, but moving towards normal
Density: normal to high
Elasticity: low
Characteristics: golden blond, never colored, easily weighed down, loves protein, curls are very fragile

CG/ModCG/not CG: Generally CG with the occasional water-soluble silicone or lo-poo, as needed. CG since March 2010.

Hair ingredient likes: keratin, protein of any kind
Hair ingredient dislikes: ?

Hard/Soft Water: not sure, to be honest...

HG/Go-to Products: BRHG is my HG. Other products in my regular rotation are: Jessicurl Gentle Lather Shampoo, Hairtrition Moisturizing Conditioner, Giovanni Smooth as Silk, Giovanni 50:50, Suave Naturals Conditioners, Joico K-Pak Reconstructor, Ion Reconstructor. Still figuring out KCCC...

Currently on the market for a more natural gel. Let me know if you have recommendations!

Average climate/dew points: very hot humid summers, very cold dry winters

Fall/Winter combos: currently trying out KCCC as a curl cream, topped with BRHG
Spring/Summer combos: When it's really hot and humid: Jessicurl Gentle Lather Shampoo+Suave Conditioner+BRHG (don't need much moisture!). In dryer/cooler weather, same as above plus a good leave-in or curl cream before the gel

Favorite styling techniques and why:
The general strategy I use is pretty similar to Smasters' technique. Basically, I co-wash and rinse with cold water, then: 1) smooth and rake a drop of gel and/or curl enhancer into soaking wet hair, 2) scrunch with a t-shirt, 3)let dry in some way [air dry, plop, and/or diffuse] until 50-75% dry--i.e. when it feels dry-ish to the touch, but still releases moisture when squeezed 4) scrunch in 2-3 dime size drops of gel upside down. 5) Let dry the rest of the way [by air drying or diffusing]. Spray with water and re-scrunch areas that aren't curling well. SOC when fully dry, or just let it soften on its own as the day goes by.

This works for me because: I find applying product to soaking wet hair makes it easier to distribute evenly and helps curls to begin to form, but usually doesn't provide me with enough hold. On the flip-side, I find applying product to nearly dry hair gives me really good hold, but I always miss spots. So, I combine the two and have had good results. I strive to get some crunch, but then SOTC.

Techniques that didnít work and why: the pineapple-- because it pulls out my curls

Hair Twins:
waves, loose coils, and cherub curls (=mixed 2s through 3a), very fine texture overall (but with medium and even coarse strands scattered throughout)
Curl Pattern: Mostly 2b-2c, 2a underneath (Fia)
Texture: fine-medium (finest in back, underneath top layer)
Porosity: low-medium (my hair strands float in water and although I don't feel 'bumps' going up the hair strand, it makes sounds like a squeegee and catches in that way)
Density: thick
Elasticity: normal, I think
Characteristics: inconsistent; front curls around face curliest , hair gets really curly in high dews and humidity, but can cause it to frizz, get big and poofy, and swell up; if I add oil or butters to my dry hair, it doesn't immediately soak in; too much coconut oil makes my hair stringy; my hair naturally likes to clump, even when I do nothing to enhance that; not only does it clump, but I have curls in the front that hook into each other and turn into sausage curls; canopy frizz that an ex-boyfriend cutely called my 'halo'

CG/ModCG/not CG: Modified

Hair ingredient likes: Not sure what individual stuff it likes yet
Hair ingredient dislikes: Still not sure - dislikes may be weather specific

Hard/Soft Water: slightly hard

HG/Go-to Products: Before I went CG, Tigi Curls Rock; after, I've liked BRHG, though I'm not sure any of these are HGs.

Average climate/dew points: hot humid summers, cold winters

Fall/Winter combos: working on it
Spring/Summer combos: BRHG worked well

Favorite styling techniques and why: still experimenting, but when I have the patience, Pixiecurl diffusing method is really nice in bringing out defined curls
Techniques that didn’t work and why: Skip curl - it didn't help with the curl. I think this technique works best for hair that has a lot of flyaways when wet - mine doesn't and twisting it didn't do all that much for me. It works ok on some of my hair, but overall, it's not worth it for me.
Fia: 2b-2c/Fine-Medium/iii (Thick)
Low-Poo: Giovanni 50/50 Balanced Shampoo, Shampoo bars
Co-Wash: Trader Joe's Refresh, CJ Daily Fix, CFT Creamy Curl Cleanser
Rinse-out: Trader Joe's Nourish, GFTN, Aubrey Organics GPB
Leave-in/Curl Creme: Marie Dean Curly Styling Creme
Gel: BRHG, homemade FSG, CJ Curl Queen, Deva AnGel
Hair likes: Protein, FSG, high dewpoints
Hair dislikes: coconut oil on dry hair
Hi I'm new to CG (about 3 weeks in), and I am still trying to figure out a bunch of stuff.

My current beginners routine:
Co-wash: Suave Naturals Green Apple Conditioner
Rinse-out: Garnier Fructis Triple Nutrition conditioner
Leave-in: Garnier Fructis Triple Nutrition conditioner
Gel: LA Looks Curl Gel and Aloe Vera Gel
Plop for half an hour and air dry
Deep Treatment: Olive oil or Coconut oil

I posted on the Beginner's introduction thread a few weeks ago, and maybe I'm being impatient but nobody is really responding there so this might be a good place to try? I've been having a few problems - I know it can take a little bit of time for CG to really kick in, but I think these might be issues that are related to my routine...

I'm a little bit confused about my porosity. I ran my finger along one strand, and it feels rough (I don't think it catches on anything), but it definitely feels rough. So I assumed that meant my hair was porous. But my hair does take a little bit of time to get wet in the shower and definitely takes some time to dry. And I tried to use a protein gel (Proclaim Curl Activator gel). My hair HATES it. It gets dry and stringy and straw-like. I know this should be a no-brainer, but does this mean my hair is, in fact, not very porous? Why does it feel rough then?

My hair tends to get frizzy by midday.. Is there anything I can do to fix that and maybe refresh the curls? I've tried scrunching in a bit of aloe vera and water, but it just makes my hair more frizzy and less defined.

My curls in general aren't too defined and some days I get clumping, but it looks sorta fuzzy or wooly. Does anyone else know what I mean by that? And some days, I get stringy hair. I read about the super-soaker method a few days ago and wanted to try it, but I can't find a decent DRUGSTORE curl creme that's CG-friendly... Any suggestions?

Also my canopy has decent curl formation, but everything underneath that is just limp waves. Can I do anything to make that part a bit more curly - it looks awkward with my layers!

And last but not least, is there something I can buy at a drugstore to SOTC? I just use my hands but it makes my hair frizzy and lose definition and start to get that fuzzy/wooly texture again. :-/
Curl Pattern: 2b/3a, and on a REALLY good day, canopy does a long, drawn out 3b
Texture: Fine
Porosity: Normal-high
Density: Normal
Elasticity: Normal
Characteristics: Can be inconsistent- REALLY curly one day, wavy the next...Grows pretty quickly, does not like gel- prefers creams and serums, colored, overconditioned easily

CG/ModCG/not CG: ModCG- alternate low poos with cowash, will use products with amodimethicone, sulfate wash about once a week

Hair ingredient likes: Aloe, a little protein, amodimethicone
Hair ingredient dislikes: Magnesium sulfate, wheat protein, a lot of glycerin in styling product, heavy oils, most low poos

Hard/Soft Water: Hard

HG/Go-to Products: Redken Curl Refiner (OR) CJCCCL (OR) CJCF paired with CIAB, LALSG smoothed to combat frizz

Average climate/dew points: Not sure, live in suburb of Boston...Really high dews AND low dews

Fall/Winter combos: In progress...Like KCKT LI
Spring/Summer combos: CCCL and CIAB

Favorite styling techniques and why: Raking and smoothing product to get even coverage, scrunch water out with a tshirt, pixie curl diffuse for root curl and volume
Techniques that didn’t work and why: Scrunching in product- can't get even coverage, second day hair (on occasion, not even close to consistent)

Hair Twins: Characteristics of (I think) Jess the Mess, BLB, Xcptnl
2b/3a, normal/high porosity, fine/medium texture, medium density, low elasticity

Low Poo- Tigi Colour Goddess, Giovanni 50:50, Giovanni TTT (clarify 1X/week)
