New to wavy hair

I'm 31 and just discovered that I have wavy hair. I went to get a haircut one day and my stylist suggested she use a diffuser to dry my hair, because she detected some curl to it, and voilą! I have wavy hair. I always used to blow dry it straight, and if ever I let it dry naturally it always looked awful and frizzy, so I never thought I had curl to it.

I figure I'm probably a type 2a, since my hair is wavy and fine, but thick. My stylist used Redken Ringlets on me and it did a wonderful job in the salon, but I can't get it quite as nice at home. What am I doing wrong? How do I use a diffuser correctly, and which products are best at bringing out my curls if I have type 2a hair? Someone suggested I try either Curls
Rock curl amplifier or AG recoil curl activator, but I'm not sure if either of these are good? I'm so excited to have discovered my new hair (I feel like a new person!) but I have so many questions - please help me bring out my curls! : )
Hi Tproul. Welcome to the boards.
The majority of the people here use the Curly Girl (CG)method. It worked wonders for me. My hair was
"naturally fuzzy" before I started using this method. Now my hair is much healthier in so many ways. It is more moisturized, feels softer, has better defined and wavier waves, less spit ends, some shine (vs. none before). Anyway, I think it is worth checking out.
Here is a thread with pictures of people before and after CG.
Here is a good introduction to the method.

Since your hair is fine, I think a protein treatment would be helpful. If you do a search on protein, there is lots of information. I found this article helpful.
The article is about black hair, but the information applies to all hair.
Some examples of protein treatments are nexus emergencee, joiko k-pac, Aubrey Organics GBV, Sally Beauty Supply Ion effective hair care. If you do a Protein Treatment, always follow this with either a deep treatment or a moisturizing conditioner.
There are lost of styling techniques that can help. I'll link a few that might be helpful. If those don't work, there are plenty more to try.
plopping (video in link)
Pixie curl diffusing
Scrunching your styling products into your hair.

I'm not familiar with the products you are asking about, but plenty of people here are.
This thread has a list of all the acronyms people use. I jokingly call it the secret decoder ring.
Good Luck (a blog to help new wavies, go to the how do I get started page)

Thanks for all this info Pedaheh! I tried plopping and the pixie curl method today and my hair looks great! Now I will have to start eliminating sulfates and cones out of my routine.
