I'm another one whose hair has never met a protein it didn't like. I do at least one PT a week and use a lot of products with protein--rinse out, stylers, protein spray, etc. I even use some of the "milder" PTs as leave ins--Moezke Carrot Protein Mask, SSI Okra, CJ Curl Fix, SS Protein Repair.

I use really rich products on a daily basis and moisturizing PTs (my favorite is CJ Repair Me), so don't have to DT after a PT.

It sounds like your hair could use a lot of TLC, so I'd consider frequent PTs and DTs.
