: Help me with my oily roots and dry ends
The roots of my hair have been oily since I was a young teen, but the ends have only been this dry since I first used a demi-perm hair color this past December. My roots are like the Persian Gulf and my ends are like the Sahara Desert. I wash my hair every other night, but I need to use dry shampoo on the second day.
I'm currently using Suave Professionals Rosemary and Mint shampoo and conditioner, which seem to be working all right. Right after I colored my hair, and for about a month thereafter, I used Renpure My Foxy Hair Needs Fixing! shampoo and conditioner, but then switched back to the Suave because I felt like the Renpure shampoo, being sulfate-free, was doing nothing to clean my hair; it looked oily the morning after washing. The conditioner was useless for hydrating my hair; I had to use Ion Effective Care treatment to make my hair soft and moisturized. Once in a while I'll use my Herbal Essences Drama Clean shampoo with either the Ion treatment as a conditioner, or my new Profectiv Mega Growth deep conditioner (I've only used it twice so far and still getting the hang of how much to use). My hair has also been much more prone to tangling and breakage since I colored it; I even got about an inch cut off to remove any split ends, and my hair felt nice and was easy to comb through for only the first day, then felt like its tangly old self again!
I use various styling products and treatments, but I need to be very careful of how much I use or else my hair will look greasy, since it is rather thin. After washing my hair, I use Suave Kids detangling spray, and I have been using Profectiv Mega Growth lotion on the frizzies near my temples and on the last inch or two of my hair while letting it air-dry, and it works much better than my L'oréal Vive Smooth Intense serum that I was previously using. Sometimes I'll put coconut oil in my hair from the nape of the neck down to the ends, and keep it in for a few hours before washing my hair. It makes my hair really soft and shiny once it's washed and dried!
But is there anything I can do about my oily roots? My hair is quite long now so I really don't want to have to wash my hair every day. I suppose I could use dry shampoo more often if I were to wash my hair less often, but then it would look dull after a couple of uses.
