: Some questions about co-washing
Hi everyone, I'm new here but I've been a "lurker" for a while. I've tried a few curly products, and even co-washing, but I feel that I know my hair a little better know and it's time to give it another shot! I have fine but dense 2a waves, that are probably 2b when entirely healthy or with a little bit of help. My hair seems to be sensitive to some proteins like soy, or wheat in large amounts. Others, like oat and collagen seem to be great. I've tried quite a few co-washing conditioners and "cleansing conditioners". My hair has hated every cleansing conditioner I've tried. Wen was pretty nice, except it made my hair fall out way too much (I suspect an allergy). The rest all leave my hair too fluffy, frizzy, and dry. Conditioners that have been recommended for co-washing are better, but not great. However, my hair seems to love it when I use heavier, oil containing conditioners to co-wash! This came as quite a surprise to me, since I have fine hair that easily gets greasy. I've co-washed with Jessicurl Aloeba and Too Shea and loved them both. I never did it for an extended period of time though and I do have a few questions.
1) Is it ok to use a rinse-out conditioner like Aloeba as a co-wash? Will it clean properly and work over time? I do plan on shampooing once a week or so just because my hair needs a clean slate every once in a while.
2) I currently use a styling cream that contains petrolatum. Here are the ings:
Aqua, Buxus Chinesis Seed Oil, Cera Alba, Dibutyl Adipate, Cetearyl Alcohol (and) Dipalmitoylethyl Hydroexyethylmonium Methosulfate (and) Ceteareth-20, Petrolatum, Glycerin, PEG-5 Rapseed Sterol, Butyrospermum Parkii, Decyl Oleate, Capryli/Capric Triglyceride, Polyquaternium-11, PEG-45 Dodecyl Glycol Copolymer, Octyldodecanol, PEG-7 Glyceryl Cocoate, Ethylhexyl Methoxycinnamate, Sodium Borate, Parfum/Fragrance, Trietanolamine, Carbomer, Titanium Dioxide, Cocamidopropyl PG-Dimonium Chloride, Methylchloroisothiazolinone (and) Methylisothiazolinone.
Will this build up too much over time? My hair definitely doesn't like mineral oil but it would leave a nasty film even though I use shampoo. This works really well now, so is it safe to say I can continue using it?
3) Those of you who use a heavier conditioner to co-wash with; do you follow it up with a rinse out or just a leave in?
Thanks to anyone who took the time to read this!
