Hello curly ladies,

I have finally decided to make a whole-hearted attempt at taking good care of my curls and becoming an out and proud Curly Girl. I’m excited and overwhelmed at the same time!

I would like to start with my current haircut. My hair is at shoulder length and cut in layers, because it made my straightened hair look more playful. I recently found an old picture of myself that was taken when I was four years old. Back then, I had very long and wavy hair that looked absolutely beautiful. I was stunned and wondered: Is that what my hair is supposed to look like? And can I get it look like that again? I’ve always loved long locks, so after seeing that photo I decided to let my hair grow out. I think my curls are the type that need to be a certain length to reach their full potential.

I have defined myself as a type 2C/3A with high density, low porosity, fine hair and poor elasticity. My hair is fairly dry, so I’ve been trying all sorts of things to moisturize my curls and make them look healthy and shiny. I use the following products:

  • Shampoo: Dr. Organic (lavender)
  • Conditioner: Dr. Organic (lavender and Moroccan argan oil)
  • Styling: Garnier Fructis Hydra Curls mousse and Garnier Fructis hairspray
  • Deep conditioner: Weleda rosemary hair oil

I also use Weleda hair oil as a pre-styling product, applying it from roots to ends after washing my hair and scrunch-drying with a cotton T-shirt. The oil makes my hair a bit greasy, which in turn makes me keen on washing my hair every day. I might want to try a new routine, though: use the oil only as a DC, rinse and co-wash daily and intensely clarify a couple of times a week. What say you, ladies? (Assuming I that understand the terms clarify and co-wash correctly…)

I’m still very unsure about wearing my hair down at this stage of going natural. I don’t think my curls are quite there yet and I also think they’re in desperate need of a CurlSys haircut. (I usually wear my hair in a loose bun—no elastic hair bands or bands with a metal part, though.) I found a CurlSys salon near my hometown through the salon finder on NC and would like to give it a try.

As mentioned before, I’ve only just started the CG method and realize it takes time for my hair to recover and before seeing any changes or improvement. Nevertheless, I would like to express one big concern. For the last few days, I’ve been losing these little clots of hair when showering or styling my hair. I’m not sure if it’s normal/temporary and am hoping any of you can tell me whether or not I should worry. I took a photo.

Alright. I’m going to stop here. Thank you all in advance for your help and support. Hope everyone has a great day!
