I had it done at age 40 when my vision was -5.00 My LASIK only "lasted" about 6 years before I was back in glasses for driving.
My eye dr. told me that if a person has the genetics to have decreased vision upon aging, she will eventually be back in glasses for distance. My rx is only -1.50 now, so my vision is much better than before LASIK. However, I do need glasses for driving, especially at night or on cloudy days.
On the plus side, I still don't need glasses for reading.
