I have often had that problem of getting even distribution, especially with thicker products. I found the answer -- combing through the products with a wide-toothed comb, then scrunching to restore the curl pattern. I thought combing would pull out a lot of curl (I'm a 3a), but to my surprise that didn't happen.

I never could get good results with products like Re:coil or Angell until I tried this technique.
