Root fuzz
I went organic a little over a month ago and just recently started using SM products because RenPure wasn't giving me enough moisture.

I seem to have a problem with frizz at the roots that extend at least 2 inches before the nicer curl/wave combo begins.

I'm still new to CG approach but am at a loss of what else to try. I currently use SM C&H Curl Smoothing Shampoo and the Style Milk. Yesterday I got the Loriel Curl Cleansing Cream and it worked great on my kids, but dried out my roots even more.

How can I get root moisture that hopefully won't cause breakouts and won't break the bank? I don't want to go back to gels, but if they are hair friendly, I might.

I wish I had the curls the rest of my family (or Gina Grant) has. Everyone has beautiful 3a-3c curls and I have the overly dry 3b with 3c tendencies.

I've never been able to do second day curls either.

Well, I got rid of root frizz, but now I have crunchy roots and I'm not even adding gel to the roots...

The rest looks great since my Devacut, but my roots are a P.I.T.A. Are there less crunchy gels or a good curl cream that don't cost an arm and a leg?

LA Looks hair gel is very cheap and does the job. I've been using it for years

Is it CG friendly? I saw it has Parabans and I don't use sulfur anymore so I think the gels have to be water based so they dissolve easily.

I don't know what ur hair properties r, but I suggest some oils for sealing in moisture. Check out my sig below for product recs, if ur hair properties r similar...

3B, Fine, Med D, Norm P&E
LowP: SM Deep Cleansing Shampoo
RO: Suave Coconut/VO5 Shea Cashmere
LI: KCKT (mixed w/ GSO or EVOO)

My properties are in my Sig. It's similar to yours but I recall when I used Argan Oil it made it feel coarser.

Maybe I need a cream over a gel.

I had the same issue a while back I posted it to this site. Hope this helps.

I have the protein treatment that you mentioned but I've been a little afraid to try it because of the directions on the two step. A little worried I might mess up and fry my hair lol.

Will it work w/o a hooded dryer? I don't own any type of hair dryer.

You could try it on a small section in the back of your hair first to see how it goes. I get the best results when I do that protein treatment then I do a deep conditioner right after.
I apply that treatment with a spray bottle. let it hang down my back over a towel and sit under the dryer. You could try it with a hand held dryer and a defuser as long as you don't touch your hair. It dries really hard. I think the treatment needs the heat to work best. Protein treatments can make your hair hard so I usually do a deep conditioner right after ...I use morrocan oil hydrating deep conditioner or argan oil hydrating masque by Every Strand. Hope that helps.

So my hair is 3b and it is extremely thick, dry, curly and frizzy but sometimes i dont get a defined curl. I went to my friends hairdressing school because she had to wash someones hair for an assessment. She used indola hydrate shampoo and leave in condioner and curl creme. I was amazed it took away all my frizz and gave me a defined curl. Im never going back its great just try it! because it was a school i got it for $12.50 per product when it the salon it is $20+! So if you have a hairdressing school near you then ring up and ask if they need to wash anyones hair and you might get it cheap too!

I couldn't remember the name of the stuff I've been using (I always confuse Marc Jacobs and Marc Anthony) so I just looked it up:

Marc Anthony Strictly Curls Curl Envy Perfect Curl Cream -

I've been using this for quite a while and I love it. It holds my curl but doesn't get too crunchy like gels do. I get mine at Ulta, but I'm sure it's sold other places too.

Thanks for the additional suggestions.

I recently started using the Giovanni Leave In and so far I like it, but oddly, it gets a bit hard so I guess I'm still using too much.

Also got the Shea Moisture Souffle. Combo seems okay, but some frizzies happening everywhere so I added the Curl Goddess this week and will see how it is after a few days.
