Ok, I know that since I'm transitioning some hair loss is to be expected. However, I'm shedding like a darn huskie!! My hair doesn't seem to be getting any thinner, and I think my breakage is minimized since I only come while in the shower with condish, so why all the shedding?!?

You sound like me! I went on a shedding rant about a month ago! I have always shed alot of hair, even though my hair doesn't appear or feel to be getting thinner. Even though I am no longer transitioning, I still shed like crazy!

I don't know if this is a fact, but for my hair it is. I shed waaaay more in the winter time than in warmer months, so that could be your issue as well.

Someone posted about this a little while ago on another thread. Here was my response(copied it from the other post):

Could it possibly be that your hair is in the Telogen phase of the hair cycle? If you aren't aware, the hair does through 3 different cycles:

Anagen - Growth Phase
Catagen - Transitional phase
Telogen - Resting Phase

During the Telogen phase, the hair does not grow but stays attached to the follicle while the dermal papilla stays in a resting phase below. Approximately 10-15 percent of all hairs are in this phase at an one time.

At the end of the Telogen phase the hair follicle re-enters the Anagen phase. The dermal papilla and the base of the follicle join together again and a new hair begins to form. If the old hair has not already been shed the new hair pushes the old one out and the growth cycle starts all over again.

The excess hair you seem to be shedding could be hair that's at the end of this cycle, and is just starting over again. So, I wouldn't worry too much.

Wow. I never knew that my hair goes through phases. Like I know about new growth and all, but never about the phases! Thanks for all the info, this was very helpful!!!
