Well Im not sure what to do at this point. No matter how many deep conditioners I do, i feel like my hair is lacking something vital. Like it looks dull unless i put tons product on it which leaves it greasy. And everytime I go outside my my hair shrinks, significantly . As if my cuticles are just looking for moisture to suck up. My friend is also natural with the same texture but her hair never shinks up like that, and it shines! I think im missing moisture? or i need to balance the ph of my hair? i dont know. Would a pH balancing shampoo help??
Helpp!
Sounds like your hair strands have high porosity. Maybe a protein treatment would make it act less porous, so that it doesn't "suck up everything."
What type of deep conditioners and moisturizers/leave in do you use?

The main characteristic of our hair is that it shrinks due to our strands curling up around themselves. You can lessen shrinkage by stretching your hair by banding, twistout, braidouts or other out styles, but you'll still have some. It is what it is.

As far as your hair feeling dry, we need a little more information to better assist you. What is your current regimen? What products are you using? I'm not sure whether you're moisturizing but not sealing your hair with oil or a butter or whether you are using oil but not moisturizing. Either will make your hair dry.

well, i wash and deep condition once a week with elasta qp dpr-11, mixed in with other conditioners random conditioners i can findv(Suave, Tressemme, Aussi) and olive oil. Leave that in for about 40 minutes, then i thourouly rinse it out. I then apply either my garnier frutis leave-in or shea moustiure curl smoothie and let my hair dry till its damp and then braid into about 25-30 braids and seal with whatever oil I can find at the time (africas best, olive oil, jojoba, coconut, etc.) then remove the next morning for a crinkled look. When i go outside for a while then return to my house, my hair has shrunk a significant amount. I dont know what im doing wrong, and more times than not, i dont get 2nd or 3rd day hair, even if i braid it again at night in about 15 braids or pineapple , i usually just end up wearing it up, none of the curls hold! and it looks dry by the next day so i try to put oil in it, but it just ends up looking and feeling greasy. I dont know what im doing wrong, helpp !

Lots of people have reported that if their hair needs protein, it won't hold onto moisture and the result is dry hair. There are lots of protein treatments out there to choose from if you're interested in looking into that. If you don't mind using foodstuffs in your hair care regimen, adding an egg to your favorite conditioner is a very inexpensive way to get protein to your hair.
The Aussie conditioner and Garnier LI contains cones. Your hair is probably looking for moisture as you said but the moisture can't get through due to the cones.

eta: The Tresemme also contains cones. Tresemme Naturals does not contain cones.

Alright guys thanks a lot for the tips. Maybe my hair does need protein...But what about pH balanced shampoos? anyone had any luck with them? I heard they supposedly improve the hairs' health, but im not certain about this and I dont want to waste any extra money on shampoo that doesnt produce significant results
And does anyone have product recommendations that dont contain cones ??
+1 on the cones. You're using a lot of them. Also my hair didn't find SMCES the least bit moisturizing. I had to put a leave it under it and use it as a sealer. Since the smoothie is loaded with oil, putting shea butter on it is a bit much. Between the cones and the oils, I'd be inclined to diagnose you with buildup overload. When was the last time you clarified your hair?

Tresemme Naturals is a good silicone free conditioner. I don't like it as a leave in but some people do. DevaCurl One is good but pricey. I'm a fan of Hugo Naturals for Dry Curly Hair. However, the best low price high performer in my opinon is my true love Trader Joes Nourish and Spa. I was beating the crap out of a bottle last night to get the very last drop because I don't have a TJ near me and it's not easy for me to get.

Yes, it's real. No, you can't touch it.
I think you need to clarify your hair with a clarifying shampoo. Then follow up with a moisturizing shampoo. Next a moisturizing conditioner. A protein/moisture balance leave-in. Seal with a butter.

My suggestions would be the new Creme Of Nature sulfate free moisturizing argan oil shampoo, conditioner, and leave-in products. I haven't tried them, but they're inexpensive and you can get them on the ground.

As for protein, someone suggested an egg in your conditioner. Egg protein is too large to penetrate the cuticle. See this article here about proteins Here. I haven't tried the Cush cosmetics protein pre-poo yet, but its on my list.

Also there is a difference between hydrating your hair and moisturizing your hair. Hydrating gets deep inside the cuticle. Ingredients to look for are sodium PCA, sodium lactate, lactic acid, hydroxyethylcellulose.

As for PH balance, some people use ACV. 1 tbspn in a cup of water after shampooing. My hair doesn't like ACV. Maybe yours will. HTH Good Luck. I have ultra dry hair too and its a real challenge.
