Which is worse in a product : petroleum or mineral oil?

Hello ladies,

Which is worse in a product : petroleum or mineral oil?

For some reason as a child, products with both petroleum and mineral oil aided in my hair growth to nearly waist length. But now that I know about the harms of both petroleum and mineral oil in a product, if I wanted to get a product that happened to contain one of those ingredients, which would be the better of two evils? and which should I avoid the most?
Wiry?, baby fine strands densely packed with different textures and curl diameters seemingly on each individual strand.
Mineral oil is a petroleum-based product, as are petrolatum and paraffin.

They're not *bad* products; they just coat and suffocate the hair if not properly removed. No, they don't help the hair grow; that happens from inside. Although, harsh shampoos and other products can damage hair and keep it from getting long (due to breakage).

To echo what Spiderlashes said, neither of these ingredients encourage growth, so I doubt that they assisted in your hair reaching waistlength; I'm guessing that was mostly down to your DNA.

A lot of people find their hair grows longer when they are not using these products as they can clog the scalp, and dry out and break the hair whilst giving a semblance of moisture. This was the case with me. My friend, on the other hand, uses products with these ingredients on her daughter's hair and her hair is nearly waist length like yours was, so she doesn't seem to have suffered from it yet, if she will at all.

I think which is worse on your hair might depend on the concentration of the ingredient, how close to the top of the ingredients list it is.
I'm not saying that they made my hair grow, But when I was younger, My hair was also waist lenght and my mom would grease my scalp with La India and use Dax on my hair to press it on occasion. Both grease. So it might have be "suffocating my scalp" but my hair was growing like a weed.

It seems to be down to genetics in either case, perhaps some people's scalp has a better way of shifting the debris.
The thing is that my mom had to grease my scalp every day. So both of the ingredients dry out your hair, but if you grease everyday you wont notice it.

With my current moisturizers I dont have to use them everyday. That's a huge difference.

they're the same thing. mineral oil is liquid peroleum/petrolatum as is parrafin.

They just don't aid in growth.

If you need to use an oil, try one with nutritional value that will actually nourish the hair and not just coat it, like avocado oil or olive oil.
products:
co-washing with any Aubrey Organics product
Olive Oil +/under leave-in for super soft hair!
Whipped Karite/Shea or Avocado butter leave-in

Also lots of water, pilates and meditation
