Winter time
I'm new to this natural curly hair, and during the winter time I will always flat iron my hair. Now that I put all that away I'm trying to figure out how would I style my hair for the winter time. What leave in to use? and how often do I deep condition my hair so it won't dry up? Also the diffuser doesn't completely dry my hair and I know the cold would damage my hair when it's wet. So would I co wash my hair the night before and let it dry over night?

welcome! i too have been having same problems as the weather been getting colder. i use my normal condish and oil as a leave in. for my DT i just mix other types of oils into my normal condish.
i would wash at night and sleep on it damp. it drys over night so by the morning you should have lovely curls.
right now my problem is that i wash n shower mornings, cause it fits in best for me, and i got a stupid little hair dryer that takes ages to dry my hair, n i still go out the door half wet. defuser would take too long, is there a quick way of hair drying in the morning? im thinking im going to have to get a better hair dryer.

Yeah that's how I usually will do wash in the morning. I use the diffuser, but it still leaves the hair damp, and I know the cold is crucial to curls. So maybe I'll try the overnight and dry the rest of ,y hair in the morning with a df.

yea i might have to do that as well i always seal with an oil, which is very important, so that your hair doesnt dry out as fast. not only is the cold weather bad for curls, though you can get sick as well from having wet/damp hair when its cold. and i really dont feel like getting sick right now!

Yeah very true. Thanks

im thinking ill just bun my hair when i wake up, if its super cold. my hair takes forever to dry when its wet.

I too wash my hair at night so that its dry in the morning but problem is my curls look wore out by time morning comes around. How should I put my hair when sleeping? In a pony tail?

Well I don't sleep with my hair wet because it will be wet in the morning. So I usually dry it with a diffuser before I go to bed then put it in a pineapple and wrap it up with a satin cap.

I have the same problem! I sleep with mine in a ponytail but it makes the top flat and frizzy. Help!

i wash at night and let it air dry as much as possible, then i pinapple, put my hair in a really loose high pony tail. and put my hair behind my so my heads not on the most of my hair. when i wake up i take it out shake and give it half and hour or so to "calm down" then i decide what i need to do to it.
if im lucky i just have to put a bit of oil through, and i bun it or if its a good hair day i leave it out. though i want to try to more buns and protective styling cause the winter drys my hair out badly and tends to split my ends.

Sorry for sounding like an inexperience idiot but what how do you "pineapple" hair?

TristanAmber 10-21-2012 03:26 PM

the pineapple method pretty much is flipping your hair forward and putting into a high ponytail and then tying it down with a silk scarf or wrap

i pinapple my hair every night, it stretches my curls nicely still keeping the nice shape so in the morning i just have to refresh with a bit of water and condish then im right
